Great travel information. I've printed it all out and will be using it for our trip in May 2005.

Got a stupid question.... how are the hair dryers in the cabin bathrooms? I wasn't planning on bringing mine, but from what I read on Platinum Castaway Club website (great site!), the hair dryers aren't that great. Suggestions??

If you plan on using the blowdryer for styling or drying in a hurry, best to bring your own!

The ones that are provided are not all that good. In a pinch, ok, but not recommended!

Also to bring hair conditioner! Especially if you need it at home, you will definately need it on board!LOL

PS If your hairdryer has the big square socket, you will also need an extension cord.

I don't know about DCL yet (I'll know in 22 days!!!!!) but I've been on 12 cruises and the hairdryers on ALL of them (many different lines) can be described in 3 words...TERR......I.......BLE! It's can be compared to someone breathing on your hair. If you need a hairdryer to dry or style your hair, Take your own. It is well worth the extra space that it takes up!

Bring your own hair dryer unless you feel like standing in the small bathroom FOREVER to dry your hair. They really are terrible.

I was just on the Wonder in February and I thought the hair dryer was just fine. Maybe I had a really good one????

:hyper: :rotfl:  :rotfl: cjsmith..LOL @ Forever.. !! I agree,, you should bring a travel size hair blower...so your hair will be done in time so you can actually catch one of the shows.. ! :hyper:

Great! Thanks ladies and gents for the information. My daughters and I have very thick hair and would like to have it semi dry before heading out for dinner, etc.

I agree that the quality of the hairdryer depends on your type of hair. If you have that perfect hair that dries in a minute and looks perfect (for which I loath you...jk), then the ship dryer should be fine

Of course if you're like me and you have thick, partially curly, basically doesn't like to hold the style you want or will have half your head perfect and the other half looking like the bride of frankenstein, bring your own dryer!!!

I am in a constant battle with my hair, and most of the time, I think my hair wins out!!!

Hope this helps!

Thanks Kat and I feel your pain. I have thick, semi curly hair that if I don't dry it straight, I DO look like the bride of Frankenstein *LOL*

Our trip isn't till May 2005, but I am totally excited as are my kids (by more ME *G*)

How do you guys get those cool countdowns for your trip? I want one!!!!

Thanks Stacey... now I just have to figure out how to use it *LOL*

I never use a hair dryer, but I'd like to repeat the absolute necessity of bringing your own conditioner!

Hello again,

I'd like to add the absolute necessity of bringing your own conditioner and/or shampoo IN A ZIPLOCK BAG!!!

I had the unfortunate experience of opening my bathroom bag, and having a wonderful shampoo and conditioner mixture over everything!!!

I've dealt with those terrible hairdryers cruise after cruise and prior to packing for each one thought, "Well, I can deal with it for just one cruise...I don't want to pack my own."

I learned my lesson, though. I'm DEFINITELY packing my own next time!!! They are REALLY low power. My hair gets so frizzy from the low heat!

I guess all dryers are not created equal, so pack one. The one in our cabin put out the hottest air I have ever felt from blow dryer, and my 12 DD with long THICK hair only needed about 5 minutes to dry her hair, but as they say "your mileage may vary"

Were you in a CAT3, 2, or 1 stateroom? They have different and better hairdryers.

Cat. 6, room I beleive, cabin 7604. We got upgraded from cat.10 the week before the cruise. It was the giant wall mounted hair dryer with a hose that could literally be stretched out from the bathroom with the toilet, where it was mounted, to the bathroom with the tub.

I must reiterate that if you are bringing your own hair dryer, you will need an extension cord.::yes::

I don't want to take the chance of having a crappy one in our cabin, so I will be purchasing a nice travel size one (mine's too big). And definitely will be packing our hair products in separate ziploc bags.

I'll tell you, you guys have the greatest ideas, so keep them coming ::yes::
