I know this is a long shot because it has only been a few days, but I'm wondering how they're handling Studios rope drop right now? The rope-less test sounded great but the original info was that it would end on the 20th... Have they gone back to the rope drop stampede or continued the rope-less procedure?

Latest word I've seen is that they're still (past Jan. 20) opening at about 8:30ish, with no internal rope.

Found the post that regards yesterday's (Jan. 22) DHS opening procedure.

Thought I'd post since there was some question as to whether DHS would be opening 30 minutes early after the test ended 1/20. We were here at 8:40 today and it was open. We hit Jedi line and rest of party to Toy story. They got 9:40 FP and rode toy story with no wait. We met them and everyone rode toy story again with about a 10 minute wait. All said, it is now 945 and part of our party is in the first Disney jr. Show and the rest is grabbing our second toy story FP for the day and hitting rock n roller coaster.

This is awesome news! I hope this doesn't eventually move the stampede to 8:30 but it sounds like just allowing the turnstiles to do their job keeps the crowd at an even pace. Thanks!!

I forget the URL but several months ago I found a short video clip of a Disney park (I think it was Tokyo Disneyland) which showed the turnstiles "metering" people into the park avoiding a mob let loose from a rope. Now the people, after going through the turnstile, were breaking into a run, or at least a fast jog.

On Sunday the 22nd, it was still 'ropeless' and they let us in at 8:30.

Gates opened at 8:45 today

We were at the studios this morning too. I was bummed that they didn't start letting people thru till 8:45.

It seemed pretty busy this morning even though HS was green lighted by two touring plan sites.

I'd think that this (more or less) would become the "norm."

It matches what they've been doing at Epcot since the Rope Drop there was eliminated.

(copied from another post)
Anyone have a trip report describing a Saturday Hollywood Studios public opening? (With the AM extra magic hour?)

Open question: When the turnstiles did not open until 8:45, was everyone in line outside the turnstiles inside by 9:05?

They are no longer doing a "rope drop" and we were not let in until right on schedule (for EMH). And all of the people in the lines did get inside within your time frame.

Yep, we were there too. We got there around 8:20 and was hoping for an 8:30 openning. It was great! we loved not having the rope drop. We rode TSM 4 times yesterday. 2 times with no fastpass when we first got in. We were some of the first ones in the ride, then got off and went right back in with about a 10 minute wait.

I am obviously very behind the times. Which parks have had rope drop eliminated and what exactly happens now? We are going first week of April so it will be VERY busy. I'd like to know what's going on in the mornings now since we will be at every part for (what used to be) rope drop.

I was at Hollywood Studios at opening (1/25) and they let folks in at 8:45 with no further rope drop. Much better process!!

Only MK still offers a Rope Drop SHOW along with an inside-the-gates holding area.

DAK no longer offers a Rope Drop SHOW, but still has an inside-the-gates holding area.

Epcot and DHS no longer offer a Rope Drop SHOW, AND no longer offer an inside-the-gates holding area.

As always, arrive well before the posted opening time at all parks.

This may have been posted before but I can't find it. Now with the new procedure at opening, what time do they let resort guests in if Hollywood has Extra magic hours in the morning?

Yep, running into TDL and TDS are culturally accepted norms. Children. Older folks. Young ladies in heels. They run to their first ride.

Here is a video I took at Tokyo DL FWIW:

So far, the EMH entrance time for WDW Resort guests has not been made earlier than normal (gates opened just a few minutes before 8AM.)

-------------
HOWEVER, a potentially more important concern, and one that has not been widely reported or discussed here is,
"On AM EMH mornings, what time do they allow NON-WDW Resort guests into the park?"

If Non-resort guests can enter at, say, 8:30AM, then 50% of the "exclusivity and advantage" of AM EMH can be lost.
