Can you give you your opinion for reserving either a studio or 1-bedroom?

We are going to WDW in mid May and planning on staying at BCV.

I have never stayed at any of the DVC resorts yet and are debating between either a studio or 1-bedroom.

We will be there for 8 nights and I am thinking about staying at either CBR or ASMo (not crazy about AS but my 4 year old girl is a HUGE buzz fan, never stayed at either one) (any thoughts?)

I am planning on moving to BCV on a Sunday and we will be flying home on the following Sat. So for 6 nights, I am trying to figure out which one makes the best sense.

We don't cook so the kitchen has no use to us. All I need is a refrigitor (for kids' milk and juice) and a microwave. To go in May, we can always pack more clothes since the clothes will be light and I can do laundry outside the unit. However, is the studio cramped for 2 adults and 2 kids (4 year old and a 20 month old)?

Knowing our style, we will be spending a lot of time at the resort (sleeping late, napping etc), is the 1-bedroom really worth that many extra points (especially there is one weekend night)?

I am a relatively new DVC member and I am still very frugal in using my points. Will I regret not reserving a 1-bedroom?

We will be staying at a 2-bedroom unit next Month since my mother is coming with us. Will I be really disappointed after staying in a 2-bedroom and then staying at a studio?

Thanks for any input you can provide.

Well....I think it is personal choice, but, we have stayed in a studio and one-bedroom, and I think it will be a while before we go back to a studio(if at all). The best points for us to a one bedroom are: the kitchen(I don't cook either, but we do like having the room, the bigger refrigerator for cokes and other items for breakfast, snacks) the washer/dryer(it is just too nice to be able to do laundry at your own leisure and go home with CLEAN clothes), and the number one reason we like the one bedroom is: the separate bedroom. We can put our little guy down for a nap or at bedtime, and then we can have some time for just us in the living room/kitchen. We love it.

Having said that though, if you think you'll be just as happy in a studio, I say go for it, and save the points for later. :)

Enjoy!

Jennifer

Would you consider moving the last Fri night? 28 pts/night for the 1 BR and 29 on Fri for a studio.

Thanks for you responses.

We are moving from either CBR or ASMo to BCV already, and we decided we will stay for all 6 nights, no more moving until we check out. Thanks

Well... We have never stayed in a Studio... (Though we have seen the layout of them when we've gotten the 2BR's..)

I'd say that if you are going to spend a long amount of time in your room, then splurge and go for the 1BR...

We have a very active two year old right now who is a light sleeper... Being able to have put him to bed in the bedroom in the "pack and play" while we stay out in the Living Room and watch movies late is a great bonus... With kids, you can't beat having the washer, dryer, full size fridge, and stove. (Plus having the whirlpool bathtub after a long day of commando park hopping is an god sent..)

Everyone has their own tastes though... The Studios are very adequate... They still have the smaller fridge and microwave... So if you are not planning on spending loads of time in your room, then go a little conservative and get the Studio..

Well, my kids absolutely love AS Movies and have always asked to stay there 1 or 2 nights before moving to BC (we stayed at BC before BCV). It wasn't bad for 1 or 2 nights, but I just hate moving so I told the kids the last time we did it that it would be the last time. They are 5 and 6 now so they have gotten their ASMo fix by now. But I would say go for it, only if you can get movies, the other ones don't interest my kids at all.

As far as a 1 bedroom or Studio, I would definately go with the 1 bedroom, just so you can put the kids to bed and still be able to be in a room with the lights on and make some noise. I may not be the best person to ask though since we stay in a 2 bedroom with the just the 4 of us. But one of the big reasons I bought into DVC was to have a seperate room where I didn't have to worry about being quiet while the kids were sleeping, you will get that with a 1 bedroom. Also, after being in that 2 bedroom, you will not want to go to a studio.

Hi Luckytso - how are you?

We stayed in a 1-bed in Nov. and toured the studio while at BCV. I really loved the 1-bed, but hubby thinks the studio will do for the 4 of us. Although the king-size bed in the 1-bed is quite nice!

We didn't do any napping while there (baby slept in stroller during nap times) but having the kids in the living area (baby in crib and older boy on pull out couch) gave us some nice privacy we are not used to while on vaca! ;)

Enjoy your trips and maybe we will run into you in May at BCV!

If you have the points, and don't have to borrow, I would go for the 1BR.You won't regret it.

The studios are great but they are more of a "deluxe hotel" room than a true home away from home. If you've got the points, I'd go ahead and give the one-bedroom a try. It really is wonderful and will show you what a great purchase you've made with DVC. You can always go back (or at least try to go back) to the studios for future trips. I always planned to stay in a studio but was spoiled by my first trip when I went ahead and booked the 1 bedroom. However, I still love studio trips to help stretch those points. :)

I agree with everyone. If you have the points, a one bedroom is the way to go.

I am also frugal with my points and I've only made the mistake ONCE to stay in a studio and won't do it again unless I absolutely have to or until my children are older.

We were at BCV for two nights in October and at the last minute, I was able to waitlist a one bedroom and almost hesitated, but my husband and I agreed it was the best decision I could have made. It makes a world of difference when the chilldren are napping or going to bed early when you can actually move around, turn the TV up and enjoy spending time together alone in the next room :)

If you can afford the one bdrm go for it. We made the mistake of staying in a studio at the VWL. It was only me DH and DD who was 3 at the time. Lifestyle like you, sleeping late, naps etc. After two days we moved to the one bedroom. We found that once she could take naps in her own space she enjoyed the vacation alot more. Well worth the points if you have them (sometimes even if you have to borrow ;) ) Needless to say we always get one bedroom now even when its only the three of us.

Thanks for all your replies.

Sheryl, good to hear from you again

:p

I checked the point calculator, the point difference between a studio and a 1-bedroom is 102 points which a little more than I can justify (for now).

Tomorrow I think I will make a reservation for a studio, and then after we get to BWV in early Feb, if I don't think I can tolerate not having a 1-br, then I will change the reservation to a 1-br (or waitlist if the nights are not available). I would think a studio is harder to get than a 1-br as far as availabilty.

Thanks again. This board is really great!!!!

:D
