Studio Backlot Tour Closing

Two expansions, how did we get so lucky! I just heard that Idol was closing (or is already closed?) is that where the Star Wars expansion is going?

No announcements of any kind to this effect, but things do seem to be getting interesting.

Darn it...I wasn't aware of the closing of Honey I Shrunk Playground too! This was one I was counting on for my 3 year old to enjoy and let off some steam! Definitely sad to see that one go!

We're heading over next May, so who knows, replacements might have started to appear by then. I do hope Mike & Sully have moved to a new area, as only about an hour ago I was harping on about needing a hug from Sully as I've never managed to catch them yet!

Those closures at least have not been officially announced, but it's not looking good.

That entire park needs a new direction. It is sad that we are missing out riding some favorites because they are closing these attractions pretty quickly after the announcement.

Yeah I can see what you mean, they're in that vicinity, so they're probably next to be replaced. Will be of course very good for change, but would have been nice to get them in one more time before they disappear!

They were mentioned on another site's blog post as being part of the upcoming changes. Find the thread referencing Pixar Place expansion for more.

Since the Frozen ride is going in Epcot, I would hope they're putting something else in those newly closed areas of Hollywood studios. Pixar place? Radiator springs? Is DHS finally getting the makeover the DCA got??

Are they going to put Cars there? Read a rumor about that, which would be a nice addition.

I'm confident it won't be Frozen. Sounds more like smaller, kid-friendly attractions based on Toy Story.

DW guests need some courses on how to cope with change....Every change seems to be way too controversial. I get it that people have different tastes but the backlot tour was in dire need of major changes or closing to make way for something much better. I say Starbucks Land where you need to use FP+ to get in.

I'm not seeing much resistance to this one.

Agree - I will miss it mostly because of the great memories of family members being picked of the show but I think they could have done more to keep it relevant over the years.

I'm getting a little bummed here. Since I booked my trip, Maelstrom, Idol, and now Backlot Tour have been axed. None of these were essential attractions, but I was looking forward to all three. Oh well. There's plenty to do. Except maybe in DHS. I'm starting to worry my 2 days there are too much.

I too am starting to question the 2 days I have planned for DHS in November. My Fastpass+ window opens tonight so I need to decide today!

Last night, I was thinking my 1 full day, getting there at rope drop plan, is too much. I was thinking of doing only a half day, but then I thought I better not, I want to make sure I see the Indiana Jones show this year, since rumors are always swirling that it is going to close, and with all these attractions dropping like flies.......

I'm not really upset with the closing. But losing the HISTK playgroud is kind of upsetting and I wish it wasn't happening before our December trip. I like recreating pictures from when I was a kid in there, and this trip my sister is going with me for the first time in 10 years. Also, if this means the end of the Osborne Lights I don't think anything put in there will make it worth it to me.

So while I'm not upset with the closing of this area, what is being rumored to replace it is not exciting at all and yet another cheap cop-out by Disney. So I am upset about it in that sense.

I like news of expansion, and I don't have any personal problems with these particular attractions being closed...and here is the but.

But I don't like to see things close and just sit there empty. American Idol has closed and is just sitting there with nothing happening. If it takes Disney as long to put new stuff into DHS as it is taking them to put up a dumb parking garage at Downtown Disney (love Pete's rant about that on the podcast), then these attractions will be sitting there empty and just be wasted space.

As much as I hate to hear about Maelstrom closing, at least it sounds like they will get started with the dumb Frozen thing right away.

People already call my beloved DHS a half day park, now it definitely will be. Especially if the Indiana Jones Stunt show closes soon like it is rumored to do. I also can't see work being done on the Backlot Tour without closing the Lights Motors Action show. The Backlot Tour winds around that show.

We just got back and only spent about 5 hours if that at DHS. We are in our 20's with no kids. Unfortunately my boyfriend wasn't feeling well and it was rainy which meant he wasn't really up for riding Rockn rollercoaster or TOT. I have been here plenty of times, and I was slightly disappointed. He wasn't impressed at all with the park. :(

What bugs me is how last minute they announce this stuff. So now I have to rework our plans once FPs are already booked and dining reservations have been made. I get that stuff needs to close do new stuff can happen

Nothing offering FPs or ADRs is on the potential chopping block being discussed here.
