Studio Backlot Tour Closing

sorry you didnt get to see it but it wasnt really that great of a ride. we were planing on skiping it this year. im excided to see something new in that area.

I know the ride isn't as good as what it used to be, but it was on my list this year, too, because, like Maelstrom, I didn't get to ride this one last year either. :( So, I'm bummed. Let's hope all these changes will be for the good. :)

it may seem cool but its just a shell of its former self.
i was lucky enough to enjoy the glory days when there were real live people talking to you and answering your questions and they actually had facades of tv/movie houses and things were actually being filmed there and it actually seemed real.
now its all prerecorded and corny and just a good attraction take a nap on.
you won't be missing much.
even the preshow "harbor attack" was much more fun of an experience then it is now.

I am personally a little disappointed that I did not get to ride this one more time. :( But can't wait to see what they have in store for the space.

Rumblings via CMs are way more than that is closing - per WDWNT - "Operating hours calendars released to cast members currently have only a few days of October hours for many of the offerings in that area, including the Monsters Inc. meet and greet, the Studio Backlot Tour, the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure, the Coke Bottle food stand, Studio Catering Company, and High Octane Refreshments................All other attraction operating hours are listed through January."

I am always disappointed when a ride goes down and regret that the once great Backlot Tour will go away. I am concerned, however, with the Monsters, Inc. meet and greet getting the axe. My daughter is a huge Monsters, Inc. fan and we had this penciled in for our upcoming November trip. I hope they move them to another area as she really wants to see Mike and Sully.

I'm not sad to see this go. It was an okay way to waste a little time but not comparable to "real" backlot tours (IE: Universal Studios Hollywood).

I'm getting a little bummed here. Since I booked my trip, Maelstrom, Idol, and now Backlot Tour have been axed. None of these were essential attractions, but I was looking forward to all three. Oh well. There's plenty to do. Except maybe in DHS. I'm starting to worry my 2 days there are too much.

This is my first Disney trip but I love the "Hollywood" stuff so seemed like a cool one (this is one of those rides that is probably more for mommy and daddy rather than our kids - compared to say Disney JR show, Indiana Jones show, etc).

Also a shame that Honey I Shrunk the Kids is closing and Stuido Catering (that was one of our lunch options). The article says they're closing Oct 11th and we're coming the 19th.

Anyone know if that means that the Frozen Wandering Oaken Trading Post attraction will be blackout during the move? (Not a big deal but would have been a nice bonus if it is around when we come)

I'm surprised that they are closing it now since they closed Idol too, there really aren't a lot of rides there to begin with. :confused3

Sorry but to me this is a 1/2 day park. I'm glad I only scheduled it for one morning of our trip. I hope they do something to this park to bring it back to life :(

Agreed!
Any chance the characters will still be available for M&g elsewhere? I know no one knows for sure.

I would love to see a Pixar expansion. But it could also be for the rumored Star Wars expansion.

I agree the first time I went on in as an adult a few years ago I was shocked at how bad it was. It used to be fun with lots to see and now it is one of two vehicles from films, the canyon part and that's really it. The pre show was boring and even the CMs that ride on with you look bored.
Like a PP has said I hope it's paving the way for something new but I do agree that in comparison to Universal and IoA Disney are very slow at getting things built. I mean are they still even doing avatar land?? And the expansion of fantasy land took forever. Past two years they have been prepping for DTD to be changed.
I love Disney but I just wish they would be a little quicker at turning things around.

Star Wars is going on the other side of the park, so this means we're getting (at least) two new developments.
Putting tongue firmly in cheek, perhaps this area will become "Avatar: Stateside", and it will be connected to DAK by the Pandora Express.

Two expansions, how did we get so lucky! I just heard that Idol was closing (or is already closed?) is that where the Star Wars expansion is going?
