1BR Villas?

At DVC resorts, the lockoff and dedicated rooms have almost exactly the same layout. For the lockoff, there is a double door to the second BR that can be locked from either side, and the second bedroom is the "studio" configuration (one bed plus one murphy; kitchenette). The dedicated versions don't have the kitchenette and usually have a second regular bed in the 2nd BR.

You aren’t missing anything. Studios are under-pointed, and 1BRs are over-pointed. This is clear when you look at the order in which unit types are fully booked.

And I don’t care. I did not get into timeshare to stay in a glorified hotel room for an extended trip.

Agreed, We bought points for 1br stays. just feels more like home. The selling points have all been covered here. More room, full kitchen, washer & dryer, etc. Deluxe studio is hardly deluxe IMNSHO.

More room is starting to sound better everyday. We are sticking 6 adults and 2 kids in a 2BR villa in December. Should be interesting. 2 adults and 2 children in a 1BR villa does sound really good!

It's been pointed out many times that 1 bedrooms are the worst "value" in the DVC system.

I believe Poly Bungalows and other special rooms are often worse.

You guys are answering a different question than the one being asked.

"Is it worth upgrading from a Studio to a 1-bedroom" is what you're answering. That's a matter of subjective preference.

The relevant question is, "ASSUMING I want to stay in a 1-bedroom, should I pay with cash or points?" That's not a matter of subjective preference, it's a matter of objective math.

By all means, stay in a 1 bedroom if that's what you like. But it's a horrible use of points, you should just pay cash for those stays and you'll save money.

I know what you're saying and respect it, but for us it's exactly why we bought the points in the first place - so we don't have to pay cash for the 1BR rooms we want. We bought the points, we have the points, we pay dues on the points, so we're booking with the points. It's not horrible at all. For us, it's how we enjoy a more magical stay. Sometimes, yes, you're not going to be getting a lot of value out of your points for 1 BRs - I'm not so sure I'd go so far as to say you'll save money by paying cash rates. More that it will take you a lot longer to recoup the upfront cost of your points.

If you have an AP and want a SSR 1 BR this summer, you can get it for under $15/point. You'd still be getting value from using your points (assuming you aren't using VB points ), but not a whole lot. OTOH, if I booked cash for my CCV 1 BR this past February (assuming I could have secured it on cash), I would have paid close to $32/point. Sure, it isn't resort view studio in December levels of value, but I think it is a plenty fine level of financial value.

Interesting. My GV was a great deal. But I should calculate the Treehouses and Bungalows one day for fun.

I once did every single room night at every single resort in every single room category for a year but that was almost 10 years ago so I'd love to see the data if you decide to do something. It's harder than it used to be because rack rates aren't published a year in advance like they used to be. You used to be able to pull a whole year of data right from Mouse Savers.

Aside from Studio > 2BR > 1BR, the only two things I remember standing out very vividly in terms of rack-rate-saved-per-point was that OKW and Boardwalk Standard View were way too cheap in points terms.
