Studio Backlot Bulldozed???

well with the way the construction industry is right now disney would be a fool to wait on a big project material prices are down and labor is dirt cheap around here all of the major builders are doing things at or below cost just to keep the guys on payroll so they dont loose the skilled guys when things pick back up

Personally, I'd have no qualms about the backlot tour going away. It was fine when the place was actually a working studio, but it's been trimmed and redone to the point of being a parody of itself.

Expand into the area to add more content to "Pixar Place" and consider also putting in a real "Toontown" there (now that the MK version is going away, and Toontown fits the "entertainment" motif of DHS better anyway).

I like the Pixar/Toontown idea...maybe an updated Roger Rabbit attraction, taking you into Toontown, Nightmare Before Christmas as well with a little Halloweentown section?

Shall be interesting to see what happens during the refurbishment next month.

I did love the pulled pork sandwich at Studio Catering....

Now that Disney ownes the rights to the Marvel Comics and Marvel has a ton of Characters and SuperHeros and Villans, I dont think it will be too long before you see them popping up at DHS.

Except for the big ones which will still be at Universal only (Spiderman, Hulk, Fantastic 4, X-Men)

Much like everyone else here, I agree that I miss the Backlot used to be. Granted, I havent been back in several years, I was disappointed the last time I was there and cringe everytime I hear someone say what it's like now.

Because I was such a fan of it then, I will be sad the day it goes. However I like the idea someone mentioned earlier of taking the props and placing them throughout the park.

I also agree that the Pixar/Toontown or Marvel attraction would be an excellent idea/fit into DHS's mix.

Just my thoughts. :confused3

Because Disney has the rights to all the Marvel characters... wouldn't you think Universal would or can loose these big name character attractions? I could see Disney opening a park just for Marvel characters with attractions. I honestly think this would make a GREAT add because so many people I know are EXTREMELY upset with the fact that Disney has bought out Marvel. Me, I'm not one of them, I say more power to Disney!!!!! Because Disney will always be my love!!

As for the Backlot tour....that upsets me to hear how much it's changed, though I can understand why... children these days don't know of the movies/sitcoms that it showcased. I will miss seeing the Golden Girls home that you could see while on the tour, though it needs updating to what teenagers/young adults can remember from their childhood. I am all for the Cars attraction... CAN NOT wait for Cars 2 The Movie to be released. :cheer2:

There is so much potential at DHS...wide range of characters, movies, entertainment genres to tap into...and it seems like they have the luxury of space to work with as well, especially if the rumors about studio backlot are true. What will happen to Catastrophe Canyon?? Are they keeping that?

No, they can't lose the rights to those attractions, on the east side of the Mississippi, until their licensing contract expires. Having said that, they still have to now pay royalties to Disney to use those characters.

Sorry folks, if they truly announced a six-week refurb...that's all that it is...can anyone give me an example of a time that Disney announced a refurb date (with start and end dates) and it didn't re-open? When they want to close something permenantly, they claim that it will be "Open Seasonally" (like Body Wars, or Sounds Dangerous) and then one time that they close it, they just never open it again.

This probably means a re-paint job and many some new signs. They could "possibly" change the play area to Bug's Life with almost no changes, (A couple statues of Flik and Hopper would do it.) so that could be in the cards, but I don't even think you will see that.

The Backlot tour was pathetic last time we took it, and they still had tour drivers then. It amazes me that they continue to run Catastrophe Canyon since it must cost a fortune for a 60 second effect. It's time to give up those ghosts and put something else in it's place. But, it's not happening right now.

P.S. Sometimes I feeel like the rumor police...shooting down rumors left and right. The only one in the last two years I gave credence to was Star Tours 2.0 and the giant MK refurb, and I was right on both those...And they were both announced a year before construction starts! I believe that Monster's Inc coaster is on the planning books, but it is not being "Secretly Constructed" as some claim. This is just plain dumb, why would Disney construct new rides in secret. Again, have they ever done this? The construction of anything new is a positive PR for WDW, and they will shout it to the hills when and if they start building a Monster's Inc. coaster.

While we are at it, lets do away with the Indiana Jones show... its old, its stale and its just not that good anymore. There has to be a better way to showcase Indy... whether a ride like DL or a whole new type of attraction.

I would guess that if they did bulldoze, you could also potentially see an area for Marvel... THAT would make a lot of sense to me... New Fantasyland for Girls, New Marvel land for Boys... Since so much of Marvel is in NY, Do a NY street... again (yes I realize the irony), or instead of castles have their head quarters... The X Men Mansion, Fantastic Four Baxter Building, Stark Enterprises, The Avengers Mansion. I'd say the Daily Planet, but I think that would violate the Universal agreement. You could do some cool stuff with the Danger Room, Stark's Testing grounds, etc.

Only Storm and Doctor Doom... not the Fantastic 4 and X-Men from what i have read... its only the specific characters, not the teams their on or associated with.

I am with you on the Indiana Jones....loved the show at one time, now I usually skip it which is sad. A sequel to the ride at Disneyland would be cool. I loved that ride, but it's been about 10 years since I've been on it.

Yes, see the show once and then it's 'been there, done that'.
What show could replace it if it were to go? How about something with James Bond? I don't believe there is currently anything in the park about those movies. (Or maybe someday when Lights/Motors becomes old it could be transformed into a James Bond thing.) Would Disney have the rights to use James Bond?

We have never been rushed in the Props building. We stay in there as long as we want to every time we go. We read all the information about all the props.
Yes, all that happens is you get on a later tram. As long as you arenot blocking the path and peopleca get around you, it's not a problem.

I am not sure just what characters are in Marvel comics (I admit to reading my brother's comic books when I was young, but he was more into the major characters. My SIL is a comic book artist and was very pleased with the idea of Disney buying Marvel because he hopes they do something with the characters (and he knows all the characters).

Retheming the HISTK play area to Bug's Life would be easy and make sense. Even if the kids don't know the movie, it provides a tie in to the AK attraction (although that might not be a good thing. Little kids who were terrorized at AK might be afraid to go play).

There actually was a James Bond simulator attraction....I can't remember exactly which parks though...Kings Island/Dominion maybe? I don't think it lasted long.

I could see converting the LMA stunt show into a James Bond stunt show, with less car stunts, but more human stunts or something.

They also had that same attraction at Canada's Wonderland when it use to be owned by Paramount Parks and the attraction was called James Bond - License To Thrill.

ok, I was probably right then since Kings Island/Dominion were Paramount parks back then
