I need a good stroller recommendation for my 5 year old. She isn't much of a walker and we always bring a stroller to Disney. I don't want to rent, I din't like them and last trip we used an old stroller she had, she fit but was a little big for it.

We go to Disney enough for my to justify buying a new one if it will last for a year or two.

She is 5 1/5 and about 43 pounds. I especially want one that doesn't have a bar over her legs so she can easily get in an out.

Thanks!

I HIGHLY recommend the Maclaren Quest! It's GREAT for an older, heavier child.

I, unfortunately, discovered it when my DD was 5 and wish I found it sooner. It handles so well, lightweight, basket, canopy, reclines, raincover, folds like a umbrella stroller.

I bought it online at www.albeebaby.com last year for only $139. and it was the best stoller decision I ever made.

We at this point, rent at the parks for our 4 and 7 year olds. They can climb in and out, and I know where they are!

Most strollers are for weight up to about 40 pounds, so I would investigate this carefully.

Take your child to a Babies R Us and try them all out, the staff there is very knowledgeable.

Actually, depending on the model/year made, they can accomodate up to 55lbs.

We bought a Chicco C5 stroller for our 5 1/2 year old in December. We knew there was no way he could walk all day and at $18/day on 9 day trip, we could buy this for less than we could rent a double for out kids (5 1/2 and almost 4) both of whom needed a stroller. This stroller worked GREAT for him. It was $89 at Babies R Us. I went in to buy a Maclaren as we knew we'd have our Mac Volo for our younger son (also a great stroller to consider) but this one had a higher weight limit (I want to say the posted weight limit was 50 lbs on the sign at Babies R Us). We figured we don't use a stroller for him at home so if this one looked good at half the price, it made sense to get this one. It turned out to be GREAT for us. Some of the earliest reviews said the seat back felt flimsy like it was made of cardboard but ours definitely is not cardboard. NEwer reviews all say that isn't a problem now so I think they fixed it in newer models. :)

I went to Babies 'r' Us and test drove all of their strollers twice before deciding to buy the Maclaren Volo. I bought it online at Albee Baby (http://www.specialtybaby.com/) because it was cheaper even with shipping than buying it at BRU. My DS will be turning 6 in Sept but he is fairly small (37 lbs.) The Macs are rated to carry up to 55 lbs. He was comfortable in the stroller and I asked if he thought he could sleep in it and he shifted around and said yes. It steers like a dream! I could push it around the store with one hand with both of my kids sitting in it (I tried just in case they both needed a ride.) I figured I would be paying about $90 if I rented a double stroller for the 6 days we are going to be there so I bought my own and I'll have it to use here at home.

The Volo is the cheapest Maclaren model - the seat back doesn't recline. This is why I asked DS if he could fall asleep in it - It seems that it has enough of an incline to make it comfortable.

I also bought a cheapie $20 Kolcraft umbrella stroller at BRU so that we have a second stroller for DD if we need it. I think we will bring just one stroller to the park the first day and see how we do with it and play it by ear if we need to bring both strollers.

We have a Mac Quest and love it. It holds up to 55lbs and works great! It folds up small and is light. It is very comfortable for our 4 year old (44inches 56lbs). It also works well with our younger kids. princess:

We have the Maclaren Volo and LOVE it! Our son used it last year on a trip and he was 6 at the time, and around 45 lbs. That was the last time he was in a stroller -- as this year, he has proclaimed "I'm a big boy" and says he doesn't need one anymore. (sniff!).

Our daughter is 4, and we will still bring the Volo with us in December. It's super lightweight and portable for an older child where you don't need the extra basket space underneath and don't need the full recline. (She naps quite comfortably in it).

I too have the MacLaren Volo and love it. I purchased it last year specifically for our trip, my son was 3 and about 32 lbs at the time. I find myself using it more than I thought I ever would. This was my third stroller purchase and I have been the most happy with the volo. It is perfect for us at Disney and I believe the weight limit is 55lbs.

Mac Volo, Inglesina Swift, and several newer pared-down Chiccos will fit your needs.

We just got back from Disney and I have a 4 ½ and a 2 ½ year old DDs. Both usually don’t sit in strollers anymore, so I didn’t want to spend a lot of $ on a stroller we would probably just be using for Disney. I thought of renting (for 6 days) but this actually worked out cheaper to buy 2 umbrella strollers at Babies R Us. My 4 year is very tall for her age so she has long legs and this stroller worked out fine. Also I bought them in colors, pink, so it was easy to spot our stroller when you park it at the stroller parking. Anyway it worked out great, and I am really glad we did it.

How much weight does an umbrella stroller hold? My DD is 5 and is about 45lbs. She's not a great long distance walker and I thought about buying an umbrella stroller to have just in case but I'm afraid that she will be too big for it.

Subbing Good stroller talk I have a 3 year old who is 45 pounds!!

Subbing.

I have a DS3 who is 45 pounds! We have a peg pergo P3 that is fine on the weight but would like a lighter one??

Not sure as to how much the umbrella stroller holds, I would suggest you take your daughter to Babies R Us and see how she fits in it & how stable it looks. If you are really concerned you can always check out the website and see if they list how many lbs it holds. My 4 1/2 yr old DD is about 45lbs too was fine in the umbrella stroller. Good luck in what ever you choose and have a Great time!! My 4 1/2 year old told me she dreams about Disney every day, it really is a magical place!
