Does anyone LOVE their stroller for a larger "special needs" kid? My daughter is 8 and is in need of a stroller for longer outings, but doesn't need a wheelchair as she is able to walk. I would love suggestions for larger strollers (80-110 lbs?)

Thanks!

Convaid Cruiser. My daughter walks (and runs, for that matter) but has a handicapped placard and the Convaid Cruiser w/c. She cannot walk community distances and I cannot carry her. The Cruiser folds up like an umbrella stroller on steroids.

Hi
Convaid is a good brand for sure, they are sturdy and up - the cruiser is great if your child wants to sit in a bit of a reclined posture - the Easy Rider (also by convaid) is more of an upright position with a lower back.....also, if you are self paying, Quickie now has a version of the cruiser that is really nice and a bit cheaper.....

Wendy,

Could you tell us more about the quickie stroller? Would it be good for folding up on the buses?

We have the Maclaren Major Elite which goes to 140 pounds. It is still new and we haven't yet used it in the community (or at the theme parks) but DD has practiced sitting in it and she must like it cause she doesn't want to get out!

Hi Wendy,

It is for our DS. He is 5 and is a MaClaren Triumph right now. He likes it because he can pull the sun shade down to remove the outside stimuli and sounds a bit. It calms him down. But he is getting to be 40 lbs so we are trying to think of what other options we will have as he grows out of his Mac?

I need to find something with a sunshade and also for it to be similar to an umbrella stroller so it can fold up easy for the Disney buses.

Hi Friend - What is your DS's diagnosis and reason for wanting a stroller? I wish I could see what you mean about him pulling the sun shade down,,,,Im not positive we are going to be able to find one that can do that - most of the ones on the special needs strollers that are for larger kiddos are more flat and stick out straight over the person in the stroller - does that make sense?????

Hey Girlie!!

Lets see - who are you thinking of this for, maybe I could help you even more? I work in the seating and positioning clinic at my hospital!!!!

I'd recommend sitting in these chairs before purchase. Our seating specialist thought a chair more like the Easy Rider would be better. The Cruiser was more comfortable and (with the extra support fabric) supported my daughter better for breathing. The tilt back was far more comfortable.

It's important to SIT in the chair before purchase.

You need to go to a durable medical equipment store- be fitted and go through your ins.
they are pricey-but solid- and are so worth it when the kids get tired or cannot walk and too heavy to carry.
The bus driver told us to stand in front so he cold see us and load us on the bus as a wheelchair- Sometimes he transferred- other times the driver did not want him to- the stroller is HEAVY.
