we are flying to WDW we dont have a travel bag for our stroller. Has anyone ever checked the stroller without a bag at the airport? thanks!

We have gate checked the stroller. You take it with you up until you are at the actual door of the plane and then they tag it and stick it in with the rest of the checked luggage. This way you have your stroller with you in the airport. Then when you get off the plane it should be waiting for you right as you exit in the jetway.

Of course that is how it is supposed to work. Unfortunately for us from KC to Orlando we checked it at the gate and it was not waiting for us and was accidentally sent to the terminal with the rest of the checked luggage. However on the way back things worked as they should and it was quite easy.

We always gate check our strollers as well. Recently we learned a new trick. We use the carseats on the plane and then have them sent with the luggage to baggage claim and pick them up there. This way we don't have to haul them across the airport.

Make sure you check your stroller when you get it though. I have had one broken through gate check. Not bad though considering we have traveled many times with our babes.

I have never used a bag. Like the others, I always gate check. Keep in mind one good reason to gate check is it can be a long haul on either end from baggage to the plane and it helps keep little ones from running. Also, if you are delayed a lot, it is a good nap spot

I've never used a stroller bag with my 2 kids, and frankly, could probably not handle having one more item to haul around the airport with me! The gate attendants usually ask to see the stroller before they gatecheck it, anyway. I would definitely recommend a CAR SEAT bag over a stroller bag if you are bringing a convertible carseat on board with you. We have used ours to stow jackets inside when it's up in the overhead bin.

We've also done the gate check with no problem. We have also travelled with an umbrella stroller and one airline put it in a special box for us and the other put it in a giant plastic bag.

I've gate checked a stroller - both a huge Graco and smaller Combi - without a bag several times (uh, going on ten round trip flights?) The only problems I've had is that the Graco did get a bit scratched on the plastic parts (which happened anyway other places over time as well) and once, in Chicago, they forgot to load the two gate-checked strollers on board. Luckily it was a flight with my husband who could help carry the baby - if I was alone and still using the baby bucket carseat, I would never have made it through the airport. Newark airport people delivered the stroller the next day.
