They are voting on a bill that would put further restrictions on strip clubs in seattle...turning on the lights, no table dances, 4 foot rule, ets. (Mostly things that are intended to make them go out of business)

Here's the question...

Do you think strip clubs increase other crimes in the area or do you think they prevent worse crimes?

Can I choose neither?

I believe the government should stay out of people's lives as much as possible. Period.

i agree with sal
i also dont think all the clubs promote crime where they are
it depends on the club and the poeple running it and the people working there

Ok, on this, I agree wholeheartedly.

I have no idea about the crime, but would like to leave the business of strip clubs to those who work in them and those that frequent them. None of my beezwax.

And...yuck.

Me too.

Strip clubs go under the "not my business" category, unless my DH wants to spend time/$ there.

I think it should be a private matter, not the goverments. I think it might keep the criminals 'occupied', and not trying to break into my car. Seriously, I think they serve a purposeand the goverment should leave them alone.

I just had another thought: is this bill supposed to protect the dancers? Is that the platform? Because, I would assume a strip club could still operate with the lights on, without table dances, and with a 4 ft. rule... Those things don't seem to have much to do with operation OR crime outside the club... :confused3

We have one on the outskirts of our cute little town on Cape cod... when we ride by it we think where would we rather have it....there or in the center of town....and the answer always comes up leave it there....

I guess they serve a purpose, not sure what as I personally think they are icky and degrading to women, but I am a woman so probably the reason I feel that way..

Not that I put much weight on his statements, but Ted Bundy stated that till we get a grip on porn, we'll never get a grip on violence.

In my neck of the woods, you'd be run out of town if you wanted to open a strip club. It's a NO GO and some have tried, unsuccessfully.

I think Bundy's words should actually carry a lot of weight. That is chilling.

I can't see where a strip club would produce any more crime than a local sleazy bar. I think the government needs to butt out and leave it alone. Its a private issue.

Personally, I do think porn leads to violence. I know most can handle it just fine, but I don't believe that to be the case for all.

One thing about Bundy though, he was willing to be analyzed for law enforcement to get into the mind of a killer, so they could understand people like him and what makes them tick. He was even willing to help search for the Green River Killer, feeling he offered insights that no one else did. His motives were to bide some time so he wouldn't be executed as soon though. In the end, we're left wondering if he was saying anything to spare himself, or if he actually believed all that he'd said? With someone like Bundy, it could all be head games.

Being as Ted Bundy was evil and manipulative and killed (how many?) lots of young women, I'd have to say that I wouldn't want to base laws on anything he offered up as "good for society," either.

But that's just me.

On the other hand, should public pressure to prevent or shutdown these places and other undesirables be carried out by the government?

For example, strip (pun intended!) mining, chemical plants, nuclear plants etc.

I agree.

If you don't like what is going on somewhere, don't go there.

Amen to that!

There's no such thing as privacy anymore.
