Strip Clubs!

Pedophiles and rapists and molesters are not sane. You don't rape people and be okay the next day. You can't blame porn for what they do.

Actually, they are QUITE sane. That's the scary thing. SICK, yes, but definitely sane and in control of their actions. Most sex crimes are highly premeditated.

IMO blaming porn and/or strip clubs for rape and violent sexual attacks is the same as saying video games cause kids to commit violent crimes and listening to heavy metal music causes suicide. You can't place the blame solely on one thing without at least taking into consideration that whoever commits whatever crime already has an underlying mental issue. JMHO of course.

Rape and molestation is about control, and humiliating the victim. Sex is just the method.

Porn is not the issue. Not the run of the mill variety. The people that are already messed up are watching messed up porn.

It's like saying everyone that has a knife in the kitchen is going to cut someone.

The women at the strip club need to be protected. Most men, I would assume, ;) are behaved, but some aren't, just like at any other event. Some people know how to behave and some don't.

The Gov't needs to stay out of people's lives.

Drugs and alcohol lead to violence, not NECESSARILY strip clubs.

I have a very good friend who works in one here in Providence, RI. She makes really good money...decides who to work for. It pays for her college education at Providence College and her house that she bought at 21.

Believe it or not, she actually is a really good person, who just wants to go to work, go to school, and go home. Isn't that what we all want?

It's a total waste of tax payer money since no matter how it goes down it will not change a thing. The cops rarely ever enforce anything strip joint related, and the clubs just create "VIP" rooms where the rules don't apply.

This area, and realy the whole country, would be better off if people just got over their hang up with sex and nudity and concentrated on the real issues.

The typical tavern does much more damage to a local area than a strip club. Fights, sex crimes, and drunk drivers just to name a few.

Totally agrees

Your first link, linked right to the page I had pointed out to you in my last post. They can say anything they want, but I believe you're intelligent enough to actually go look at the statistics yourself. I see that NY has decreased, and I know it's been a major fight in your state to crack down on crime (all crime, not just rape/murder). I give high kudos to all who played a roll in that. There is no one answer to cure all the problems of the world and I'll never suggest there is. IMO, more can be done.

Instead of reading biased polls though, do the research yourself. You've got it all right there at your fingertips. Just click on a few states and see what's really going on.

I've read MANY studies who claim that rape has decreased since porn became more prevelant. The sad truth is, the statistics don't really back em up. Of course, that takes a bit of leg work on your part.

I'm backing out of the thread now as I've said, I could post link after link to prove my point, but all I'd end up doing is wasting my own time as you all already have your minds made up. Hey, have at it.

I guess to me, it seems like the wrong conclusion that just because most (I wouldn't even be surprised if every) rapists/pedophiles/etc have porn means that porn influenced them to commit their crimes. The fact that these people are rapists/pedophiles/etc mean that they have the mindset as such, which predisposes them to look at images of the acts and predisposes them to commit them. The porn did not make them do it; looking at it was just another illustration of their demented idea of sex/power/etc.

Looking with an even wider lens, the vast majority of men (and many women too) have porn. I'm not saying that everyone has an external hard drive devoted to nothing but, or an extensive collection of videos, but I'm sure that most people have at least some. Almost all of these people use the legal porn for the purpose intended- private (or consentually shared, I suppose) arousal.

If one were to ask if society's depiction of women in general might contribute to the number of rapes, I'd be likely to say that it somewhat does. The objectification of women certainly makes it easier for would-be rapists to think of them as targets instead of people. I don't think pornography or strip clubs have as much to do with the objectification of women in society as a whole as do their depiction in more mainstream forms of entertainment- movies, music videos, song lyrics, etc.

So, in Europe, where porn and nudity is not hidden and where prostitution and the like in many places are legal... do they have the same problems with violence as we do here?

If porn had a direct link with violence, wouldn't Europe have more violence, since nudity and porn are MUCH more accepted there?

I can never understand why cities do this to themselves. The taxes they lose from the booze sales alone are monumental.

And talk about contributing to crime? Some of those women need the money. If they can't strip they'll more then likely be forced to turn to prostitution. :sad2:

IMO, it's too bad those who are participating in the porn aren't the ones being raped/murdered instead of the innocent woman in all the towns/cities across the entire nation. I'd rather no one got raped/murdered really, but I don't want it to be your daughter or mine when they've done nothing to deserve it except be at the right place at the right time.

NO ONE deserves to be raped. NO ONE. I don't have a daugher(or a son for that matter), but every woman is SOMEONE's daughter. The point here is choice. A porn star chooses to have sex with that person on tape. That doesn't make her more "deserving" of being raped. NO ONE is more deserving of rape than anyone else. NO ONE should UNWILLINGLY have sex forced on them no matter what they do or who they are.

Having worked in the sexual assault field, I can honestly say that I have seen studies that go BOTH ways: some say porn = increased violence, some say there's no link at all. I haven't seen ANY definitive studies to prove one way or the other.

What I DO know is that MANY people look at porn, FEW of them are sexual offenders or even criminals.

I've done all of the above, and my harshest crime is an occasional speeding ticket. :)

Wow! Just WOW! That statement is as scary as rape itself.

You are TOTALLY right.

Rape is NEVER deserved, no matter what the situation.

I agree, that is scary.

No one, NO ONE deserves to be raped and murdered! And that's just the mind set that contributes to it. That someone, anyone, deserves it.

It's despicable.
