ok , I realize that this has been discussed 1000 times (because I have read them all lol) but I am SO stressing about the Southwest boarding procedure.
I really thought I was going to be ok and not have an anxiety attack but here we are with 10 days to go...and I can't think about anything else but my ds 10 dd8 and ds 6 sitting 16 rows ahead of me@! I did get the eb check in, but my big worry is that I will have a B boarding group and have to wait for family boarding ( and there will be a lot since its an orlando flight) to be over and by that time there will be no 2 seats together. We don't qualify for family boarding since all 3 of my kids are over 4.
I have read everything I can about this on these boards and everyone says
not to worry but if 60 people board in the A group and all sit together then families board and obv sit together then I don't get how there will be 2 seats together left!
I counted the seats on the plane lolol All I care about is that we get 4 seats together, even if we separate 2 and 2. Will we be ok?

Our last flight to Orlando they didn't do family boarding due to the large of families traveling. If you did early bird, you should be in the A group, if not the beginning of B. There will be plenty of seats for y'all to choose from. So, you don't need to worry.

oh thank you!! :)

Agree with pp, on our last flight to Disney there was no family boarding since basically every group on the plane had kids. We did the EBCI and we had A18, 19, 20, 21 so you shouldn't have any problem.

The smallest SW plane has 21 rows of six seats. That's 126 seats. That's 42 windows, 42 aisles, and 42 middles. It would take 84 people boarding taking every window and aisle before there would be NO seats together. Anyone sitting together of those 84 (thereby taking middle seats) would leave even more seats together.

If you're on a plane with 23 rows, it would take 96 people (at minimum) to leave only single seats.

I fly SW a lot. I am usually in the A group. So, I sit there and watch as others board. I have never seen small groups have to split up until getting to the very end of the B group. And that has been with groups of more than 3.
I doubt you will have any issue getting two pair of seats very close together. Especially with EBCI.
Stop worrying...you'll be fine.

You will be fine....We have had B before and it has never been an issue....just head to the back of the plane, there will be plenty of seats.

On SW, I never worry, and I have a DS9 who is a very anxious kid and has massive ear problems when flying. One of us HAS to sit with him! I have never worried with SW esp if we have purchased EBCI. We were burned once by USAir when they switched our seats when DS15 was just 2 years old and had him sitting by himself. Since then I have been a firm SW fan, since I have control of where we sit, esp if I purchase EBCI.

Try not to worry. I fly Southwest a lot. With any A number or early B you should have no trouble finding 2 sets of 2 together.

I agree you will be fine on SW, even if you get high B boarding numbers. Not usually that many people that qualify for family boardiing that I've seen.

I would try to to worry. We are a family of 3 and even with mid B numbers - in the 40's we've gotten three seats together.

Not sure where you're flying from, but out of BDL (Hartford) flying at non school vacation times, there arent' that many families. Is school out in your departure airport?

Relax and enjoy your vacation!

Ok I didn't even think about it being school time.. It's not a vacation week for our schools!!i I feel better now!! :)

A lot depends on what airport, and what time, your flight originates. Passengers originating from popular connecting airports like BWI, LAS and MDW are at a disadvantage. Connecting passengers will get their BP assignments hours before originating passengers will get their BPs. That means all the connecting passengers will get their EBCI passes before you. It means checking in at T-24 might not be enough to even get a low B.

I'd definitely pay for EBCI if I had such a flight.

OP. I wouldn't worry. EBCI should give you an A to mid B (worse case). Shouldn't be an issue getting seats together, probably in the back third of the plane.

I find Southwest to be LESS stressfull. I don;t have to worry about picking (and possibly paying) for my seats early. I don't have to worry that a plane change or cancelation will delete my seat choice. I buy EBCI, make sure I get to the airport in time to make my boarding window, and then choose the best seat for me available. Piece of cake.

I agree I have been flying SWA since 1999, almost exclusively (I flew Midwest Airlines a few times when it was still around), and I find them very unstressful. No worries about flight time changes, no worries about change fees if I need to change to a different flight, and pretty much no worries about a flight being late, I think the latest I have ever been on a SWA flight is 40 minutes or so, and I have been literally up to an hour early before.

To answer your original concern though. I have flown on Southwest now for over 10 years, atleast 2-4 times a year (I know not a LOT of flights) in that time I have ALWAYS been able to find two seats together, even once when we are in C (long story). I think my husband did the math once and found that as long as you are an A or B it is a mathematical guarantee to get two seats together somewhere. I think I have seen in all that time a total of TWO times when SWA flight attendant had to ask people to move to accomodate a family... they were both boarding at the end of C though. You will be fine, and I don't think you have anything to worry about.
