Strategy for FP+ tiers?

Sorry for the gazillion questions. This is our first time at WDW since they implemented FP+ and I don't know enough to know what the best strategies are. For example, at DHS, we would want to do TSMM and RNRC, but they're both tier 1 attractions. Which one do we choose? FWIW, we all enjoy TSMM and none of us have ever been on RNRC, but I'm sure one wouldn't want to go and one is too small, so my husband would stay with them because he doesn't really like roller coasters and I'd go with the other two kids.

I know you can have 3 FP+, but do you have to use all 3 before you can add another?

You don't have to use all 3. You can cancel one, even before you arrive, and then go to a kiosk and book another after using your 2 FPs. So you could try for another Tier 1.

OK, so you can cancel them, but if you have any unused FPs, you have to either use them or cancel them before you can add another? I just want to make sure I'm clear.

Or only book one Tier 1, use it, book another, etc. ? But do I understand correctly, you have to do it at a kiosk; you can't do it on MDX?

Yes. If you are trying for another Tier 1, you'd have to Cancel any valid FPs before you search at a kiosk.

Some people only book one or two and Cancel what they don't want. They go to a FP kiosk sooner that way.

Only Cancel if you know you will definitely not need that FP because you won't be able to get it back.

Since you all enjoy TSMM, I'd get the FP+ for it, if I were you.

And if you go to TSMM right at rope drop, that would give you 2 rides on it without much wait either time. Rock n Roller Coaster still won't have much wait if you go to it immediately after TSMM at rope drop.
