Strange things guests say

a good few years back, we got talking to man from somewhere near New Orlenes in a queue at MK- part of the conversation..

man: where you all from
DH : Scotland
man: You sure do speak good English for folks not from the states. Do you learn it at school
DH: We speak it all the time
man: Yes thats sure the best way to learn a new language

Wrong on so many levels- but did give us a laugh.

I caught the conversation on my camcorder as I was filming my 2 dd's at the time. we have played it a few times and each time we still all end up in fits of laughter

Years ago, my coworker was taking her 5-year old granddaughter to Disney to celebrate the grandmother's adoption of the granddaughter. She asked me to plan the trip, gave me her credit card and told me she wanted to stay at the Contemporary and only visit the Magic Kingdom. I argued with her that she did not want to miss EPCOT or the studios, but she said there would be absolutely nothing for her granddaughter to do at either park and she had no intention of going anywhere for the week except for Magic Kingdom. After weeks and weeks of trying to convince her she was wrong, and since it was her trip and her credit card, I obliged and booked her at the Contemporary, and made reservations for only MK and monorail line restaurants. When she returned from the trip she was so disappointed. It seems that the last day, they decided to visit EPCOT and they both LOVED it. She was so upset that they spent 6 days on Small World and Peter Pan and missed all that EPCOT has to offer (and never even got to the Studios, this was before AK opened). Since that time, when I am helping people plan their trip, I do not give them any choice, I just book what I think they will like!

The other thing that I can't stand to hear is people misunderstanding Fastpass. I have heard dozens of people complaining about Disney trying to rip them off by making them pay for fastpass. I understand that other parks (ie Six Flags) make you pay for fastpass and it can be confusing using your room key (which could be linked to your credit card) to obtain your fastpass if you have your park hoppers attached to your room key. BUT, I think Disney has done a pretty good job of explaining fastpass and the fact that there is no cost to guests! Between the signs, the CMs, the description in the maps and brochures and Stacey talking about it on the Walt Disney World network, I think that guests should understand that this is one thing Disney is actually giving you without an extra fee!!!

Yesterday me and my boyfriend were at Hollywood Studios. We heard some guy ask a CM, "do we have to leave to go to the other parks". "Or are they all connected". OMG!!! Obviously this guy knew nothing about Disney World!!

As a former Cast member in the dining department I have a full notebook of funny or not so smart things guests used to say to me over the phone, I am thinking about a book someday!!! My favorite will always be....

What time is the 3 o'clock parade??

I love it so much I bought the shirt when I was down there in March!!

We are leaving for the World in a month. I have been planning it for over a year. My grandma asks me at lunch the other day if I bought the special passes that get you to the front of every line.

I said, "There's no such thing. At Universal you can buy one, but Disney has free Fastpasses and they're only for certain rides."

She insists that our cousins just went last week and bought this pass. We argued for a few minutes, called our cousin, and found out it was a GAC pass.

I was thinking, "Do you really think I have spent this much time planning and wouldn't know about a pass like this?"

We have been 4 times and I have NEVER heard anything anywhere close to what is posted here about random strangers. I do think the funniest are said by children and those posted by parents or relatives are hysterical. I do think someone calling MK "Disney World" isn't a big deal. In fact, to be bothered by that is just a little anal. I'm thinking some of these "tales" are not entirely true. While they are funny, I do have to wonder.

I wouldn't be surprised if these tales are true. When i was a teenager, I worked at Six Flags and I worked in the water park running the games. One of the games was set up across from the giant wave pool...I had people (several, actually) ask me where the wave pool was located. So, yeah, some people are that dumb or they just shut off their brains while on vacation.

I wouldn't be surprised if these tales are true. When i was a teenager, I worked at Six Flags and I worked in the water park running the games. One of the games was set up across from the giant wave pool...I had people (several, actually) ask me where the wave pool was located. So, yeah, some people are that dumb or they just shut off their brains while on vacation.

It isn't just on vacation. My husband works at target and you wouldn't believe how often people ask where to find things that they are standing right in front of. There are then 4 responses:

1) Cool people say something like "Thanks, I really should have seen that" and laugh at themselves.
2) Ok people say thanks but look kind of embarrassed and move on.
3) Rude people act all insulted and inconvenienced and rude. but only for a few seconds.
4) Occasionally you get a really really unDisney-like person that will tell him off and that it wasn't there before. Yes because he somehow while you were turned around looking at him magically got what you were looking for moved behind you without you noticing.

Another good one is where to find the exit to the store... The store only has two exits, one into the mall its attached to and one outside... This question is generally asked while in the middle of the store not near any walls



To the person that commented about the two guys excited for the Lego store... Well in 4 weeks I'm going and I'm really excited to go to the Lego store... I have a whole medieval area with a castle and another set of nights that are trying to take over and a blacksmith and village... now I need some more pieces to tie it all together like extra blue pieces for a river and some other pieces for trees etc. And I have heard that you can get a small version of Nessie like the one in the lake... I really want that... maybe I"ll make her a lake monster near my castle...

A couple of trips back, at AK, a lady stopped at one of the Photopass photographers set up on the entrance bridge where you first see the full view of the Tree of Life. She asks the CM, "Is that a *real* tree?"

Without missing a beat, and in a perfectly dead-pan voice, the CM replies, "Yes, Ma'am ... brought it over from Africa on a huge boat."

"Wow!" exclaims the impressed lady, walking away.

The CM must have seen me and DW giggling 'cause he shot us a smile and rolled his eyes....

I am not surprised at all at these stories. It is amazing the stuff that people say, ask, and think when they leave the comfort of familiar surroundings.

I worked at a sports venue for years and some the questions that people asked me just baffled me. I was left many times wondering how that person managed to get through life.

I am sure my DH and I are guilty of saying some stupid stuff while at WDW. But it does make for a good thread later.

I was helping friends planning their first (in many years) trip. They were staying at the AKL and when I was giving them tips on using the bus system they got all confused because they thought they were "staying in the park" and that meant they would literally be "in the park" and not have to take a bus anywhere. Good thing they talked to me or they would have thought Animal Kingdom was really just Kidani Village.

Mom after seeing the Johnny Depp animatronic several times says to her daughter: Wow, I wonder how they got him to do that!

Teenage daughter: Mom, you know that's not really Johnny Depp right?

DH and I were exiting Space Mountain just ahead of a boy who was about 6 or 7, and his dad. The kid was incredibly wound-up by the ride, and while rambling enthusiastically about how awesome it was, he said to his dad:

"This was so much better without Mommy!"

DH and I died laughing.

I swear that had to be my son!!!

So I just completely wasted a couple hours reading though all of these and having a good laugh (good thing it was my day off)...

Not sure if I've posted this before but this little gem comes directly from the mouth of my DH (DFi at the time). We were sitting in Germany waiting for Illuminations to begin and of course MANY people were walking around with pretzels, and there were also many with cups of Beer. Now please let me stop here and say that DH and I have been together 4 years at this point and I am of German backgound...

DH: wow those pretzels look good, I should get one
Me: Go ahead, get me one too, I'll save our spots here
DH: you sure, I'll be gone for a while
*now at this point I turn around to see a line of maybe 5 people in a line at the vendor cart serving pretzels conveniently right behind us
Me: Why?
DH: Well you don't expect them to sell pretzels in Germany do you, christ next you'll tell me I can get a decent beer here too

DH: You seriously think I can find a pretzel in Germany...babe you're crazy
Me: ...I'm not crazy I'm German and there's a pretzel cart about 30 feet that way *points*
DH: *getting up* you think so eh? *sees cart, sits back down* Don't...say...a...word...

First trip to WDW in 1982 with DD 15 and DS 12 they decide I should ride SM. I don't like roller coasters but this was a trip of firsts for us 3 years after a nasty divorce situation so I said okay. This was when the cars were very different and two people sat in each section. I sat in the back with my daughter in front of me and my son in the front section of the car. As we hit the first drop I screamed and then was very quiet holding my breath. A short time later my son says "Is she dead?" My DD says "I don't know"

Now my DGD aged 24 and I make a point of doing "all the mountains" in one day if we can.

Oops, meant to post my overheard story in the "funny things guests say" and not "strange things". And I mean funny in a cute way, as in, you don't hear grown men say that out loud everyday.

It doesn't bother me if the person is over 40, as it's entirely possible that the first few times they went to WDW, Magic Kingdom was all there was. In that case, to them the Magic Kingdom will always be Walt Disney World.

I'll admit, my family has been to WDW oodles of times, but our first trip was 1976, and we call the MK Disney or Disneyworld. The rest of the parks have their own names, well except HS which is MGM. Oh, and downtown Disney is Lake Buena Vista.



I am glad they changed the name of the Peoplemover back, though. See, we were right!
