Strange letter problem solved

Before I give out all my info I would call Disney first and ask them about it. I have never heard of this before. And why would they need birthdates? Sounds fishie to me!

Were you relocated from Port Orleans French Quarter?

I must be alone in this..they have been asking for birthdates for a while from me..I assumed it was so they would know when to start charging the kids adult rates. However, I've never gotten a form to fill out.

I'd call -- sounds strange UNLESS you are talking about a cruise line or land/sea package? That's the only time I've ever had to provide all that info. and that's for security and customs/immigration junk. But I'd still call.

I called the number provided and the CM said it is part of security proceedure. It was just kind of freaky when he said, They have to account for everyone on property. It sounded like he was talking about the passenger manifest on the Titanic:eek: Did I mention I am a bit neurotic:rolleyes:

They've always asked for the birthdates of my children.

They always ask for my DD's birthdate.. don't be alarmed,. stepping up security is a good thing. :)

We received our letter today. I have no problem giving it to them. They usually ask for the same information when we call and make reservations. The only thing is this time, I added my mom after the original reservation was made and deposit had been made and forgot to give them her info.

DH says he is sure that it has more to do with marketing and demographics (sp?).

It is not like this letter didn't arrive in a Disney envelope, with Disney letterhead and postage paid envelope with Disney's Address. I know I have sent other correspondence to this address before, so I'm sure there is nothing funny going on.

Hope you don't cancel your trip over this.

The letter also states that "If you have any questions, or you prefer to provide us with the information by phone, please feel free to contact us at 407-939-7919, Monday - Saturday, 8:00a.m. - 8:00p.m. Eastern Time.

With Disney changing over to their new reservation system they now require the names of everyone in the room (for package AND room only reservations now) whereas in the past you only had to provide the names and ages of those traveling when booking a package reservation.

Don't be alarmed--it's just the new system.

Yes, It did come in a Disney envelope and I had questions and did call. Having had my credit card number stolen twice I am leary about giving out information. I called back and spoke to a very nice CM who said the following.....This has absolutely nothing to do with security in any sense. That this a marketing endevor to improve and personnalize customer service, and that is why just the kids B-day's are asked. This way when it is finished when you call, they know your preferances as to where you like to stay, eat etc.. And they can know if you are coming at a special time such as a childs birthday. So thats that apparently wrong information was relayed. She further said she was going to check and see that they not say its a security measure. Ok I feel better!

If a resort is expecting a visit from someone who has a secret service detail during the time you are also visiting, the secret service will ask the resort to provide information on all guests staying the same time at that resort.

One of the first jobs I had in TV was the audience coordinator for a live talk show. We had former Pres. Carter and then Ron Reagan, Jr. and Michael Reagan on as guests (in the late 80's) along with Queen Nor of Jordan and other dignitaries come on the show. I had to provide the secret service the names, addresses and phone numbers for all audience members that would be there during those shows weeks prior. Anyone who was not on the list did not get into the show. Same procedure for some gal who'd been married to the mob and had written a book and was in some kind of protective custody by the FBI.

There might be more than marketing behind the request for the information they are asking for.

I also received one of those letters today....really strange though because I am sure they have asked me my childrens ages over and over again!

I got one of those letters today also and they don't even know that I am bringing my children. I think that it is wierd to let anyone know this information about my children unless they have a good reason for it. I travel alot and have a lot of frequent visitor at several hotel chains. My son and I travel together and I have never been asked his birthdate. I won't be giving out that information to them. If the President of the US is going to be at the same resort I doubt they need to know my sons date of birth. If they want to do a demographic study then I think they can ask me when I check in. What do they think a 16 year old child is going to do on vacation with his parents. I think that this whole paranoia that has developed in our nation is very sad. This is a free country still and I don't think I need to have personal information in every data bank that I visit.
I have never recieved a postcard from Disney. Maybe if I give them the birthday's I'll get one. I've been to DW 20 times in 20 years and always stay on property.
