Strange Children's names...

Wow - there are so many of these I could have responded to!

First, our daughter's name started out a bit more unusual than it ended up. She was going to be named Rylie Madison, but in the hospital, we flipped it. Now, she's got the most common first name on the block!

But, in naming her Madison instead of Rylie, we started the "M" trend with ur family. In fact, it wasn't planned, but even our dogs and cat's name start w/ M! So, our running family joke is the next baby better have an "M" name or they might get a complex. :earseek:

So, right now, we have Makena for a first name for a girl. Boy names are tougher, because I like the unusual names, and the only one I like is Mason, but it doesn't sound good with our last name. DH really would like our boy to be named Miller, but there is something about naming your child after a beer...

As far as a "T" suggestion - one I did hear was Taryn. I think it's for a girl.

And I have also heard about the Jello twins. (Lemongello/Orangello.) The even funnier thing is that one of our friends, that is also a teacher (and likes to tell tall tales!) mentioned that HE also had the Jello twins in his class! Makes me wonder if he was reading the DIS boards! :rotfl:

I just had a friend that named her little boy Grayson. At first, I thought it was wierd, but it's been growing on me, and I think I kinda like it.

I grew up down the street from a family that had 9 kids, all whose names began with the letter J.

We have a family 2 doors down from us with 6 kids, all names starting with J. They all look alike too, tow-head blonds, tall, thin. So my DH took to calling them, collectively, "the J's"--Jimmy, Jason, Jacob, Jeremy, Jordan, & Jennifer. :rotfl:

She also teaches preschool and has a Liberty in her class. Which I kind of like.

LOL, my aunt Faye wanted me to name Remy "Liberty Belle" because she was born on the 4th of July. I thought Remy Kaelynn was the lesser of two evils LOL. Aunt Faye called her Liberty until she died of cancer when Remy was 3.

Yesterday the boy next door came by with his fundraising sheet for school. I noticed his teacher's name on it-Mr. Lady...I about fell on the floor laughing...OK, he's an adult, but I still found it amusing.

When I worked in customer service for a bank long ago, some other amusing names came up. I guess they can fit into this thread, since they were once children....

TV On
Kit Chen
Fairybelle ......(can't remember the last name.)

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I do not like made up names. A tweek on the spelling of an already known name is bad enough, but why are people so desparate to have their children be "different" that they saddle them with a name like "Tallulah Belle" of "Apple"......

That being said, my great grandmother's name was America...

My nephew is named after the baseball bat brand that my DB used all during his baseball years. His name is Easton.

Hey, the good thing is ... you can buy all sorts of sports equipment with his name already on it! :goodvibes

I know someone that named their son the same thing for the same reason! Their older son has a baseball related name, too, but I can't remember that.

I also know someone that named their son Braxton, of course we all call him Braxton Hicks (like the false contractions).

My mom taught middle school for 32 years and she and he friend taught twin boys. Lemonjello and Orangello. Not a joke. Seriously their named. Pronounces La-mon-gelo and Au-ran-gela but spelled like Lemon Jello and Orange Jello.

Wierd. For at least 2 decades, those names have been the punchline of a joke around here (Ohio).

DH was a building (full time) substitute, and one day had a "Square" on his student list. A few days later, he had the sister of "Square" named "Squarelina." No kidding.

I, too, sometimes like less common names but not necessarily really out-there names. My youngest dd is named Rosalia, almost always mispronounced. It is supposed to be, following Latin-based language pronunciation rules, Rosa- LEE-a. But most everyone calls her other names, like Rosalie (must think we mis-spelled it) and Rosalina.

My friend's ex-boyfriend's name was Jason (born on Friday the 13th) and his sister's name is Liberty (born on July 4th) :goodvibes

Not "unusual"...but when I first started working with this company my cube was next to a guy name Eoin.

I dunno...Eoin just doen't look how "Owen" should be pronounced...I mean, he has 3 vowels in his name! hehehe. (he was Irish if that helps! heheh)

I have a feeling we'll be "The J's" in the future...so far...me, DH, and the dog are all "J's"

I should contribute some names ... besides the Rosalia one I posted above, lol.

My youngest sister is Arienne (a mispelling, since my stepdad was an AWEFUL speller). Lots of times, people asked my sister's name -- I said "Arienne" (pronounced R-E-N). People look blank, then say "Ren?" No, I wasn't SPELLING it for you, I was telling you her name, hehe.

My cousin is named Xanthe (pronounced ZAN-thee). It IS a real name, which means Blonde. She has jet-black hair.

I went to school with sisters named Michael Ann and Timothy Ann. Wonder if their parents wanted sons??

Our school VERY briefly got a new girl, when I was in high school, named Lovelight (her first name). She had a reputation the first day! She left again after less than 2 weeks.

My stepbrother is named Carleton Maroni Joseph. My stepmom, his mom, is Mormon which is where the Maroni comes from. we were mean, though, to him...we called him Carly-ton of Macaroni.

My brother was insistent that he wanted my SIL to agree to HIS name choices when their 4th baby was due... Vladimir for a boy, or Casimira for a girl. Good thing they picked again before the birth, ended up with Sophia Claire.

Beth (who has a sister Amy, and great aunts Meg and Jo....my moms family was pretty much into Little Women too!)

DS's name is Wyatt. When he was born in 1999, it was 131st most popular name. It is now up to 90th most popular. It is nice to know that he probably won't graduate with 10 kids with the same name as him!

I grew up near a farmer with three daughters: Karen, Kate, and Kyle. Now, there is nothing wrong with these names, but he did decide to name his property after them: "The Triple K Ranch". I didn't think anything of this for about 13 years until someone asked me if he was some sort of racist. It had me puzzled until I realized they were thinking KKK Ranch. I guess it could be a little confusing for out-of-towners.

I have a good friend whose name is Klye. People think his mom mis-spelled Kyle. I think its a great name- :flower:

When I was pregnant with my DS (now 16) I used to look in the paper at the birth announcements for ideas. About 1 month before he was born, a lady had triplet girls and she named them Skye Blue _________, Sapphire Blue _________, and Ocean Blue ______. I thought that was weird.

My two have pretty normal names, but we didn't think about what my DD's initals spelled: Elizabeth Ashley R____ = EAR. She hates it when we put her initials on something.

My sister was the same way. Her name is Elizabeth Ann T___. When she had her initials put on a pair of shorts one time (jr high vollyball team uniform), it splled EAT. :-P

There is a girl that went to my high school whose name is Cricket. We call my cousin oopy too. lol It has a joke behind it but whenever we introduce him thats what we say and people are like "HUH??" lol

Once I got married, my initials became LSD. How stinky is that?

I think it's pretty funny.

Once I got married, my first initial and my last initial became the same.
