Strange Children's names...

My SIL and her DH named their son Connor. Not bad. I like Irish names. His middle name is supposed to be her DH's grandfather or great grandfather.

I have a hard time with Connor Norrad. My DH thinks that Norrad was Darron backwards.

DH's cousin named her newborn girl Trinity.
My cousin's name is Sayla.
Not many other weird ones that I know personally.

My name is Traci (very common in 1966)

My oldest daughter (13 yrs old) is Taliann (after her grandma Anne Tally) She prefers Tali now

Son is Noah Lance

and youngest daughter (8 yrs old) Tova Victoria

My first name is Merry. Not so bad now that I am married and have a new last name. My full name at birth was Merry Lee Love. Okay, imagine living with that. Kids would say it backwards, Love Lee Merry. Not so bad now, but when you are a kid.....not so fun. :worried:

Now I love the way my name is spelled. It is original. I have only met one other "Merry". I am sure there are others out there. :goodvibes

As for the Lemonjello and Orangejello. I think when people heard the "urban legend" they decided it was "cool". Since the eighties, I have seen several sets of twins or just brothers with those names. Maybe they start out as the urban legend and the legend becomes reality. :confused3

merryg :daisy:

I noticed she has one girl in her class whose name is Katie-Scarlett. That is her first name. Hmmm, I wonder what movie is her mom's favorite??

Errrr......Ummmmm.......My Daughter's name is Katie Hamilton. I LOVE Gone with the Wind very much, and I always thought that Katie Hamilton (of course, we call her Katie!) would be a not so obvious way to pay homage to an amazing book. In the book, her full name is 'Katie Scarlett O'Hara Hamilton Kennedy Butler, if you add up all her marriages, so that is how I got Katie Hamilton. Of course, then I married a Butler.....:)

Still, our Daughter is three years old, and we've only had three people hear her full name and "GET" where it came from. I figure that is pretty good. :)

DS has a girl in his class who is named Madison. Not original anymore but her sisters are Reagan and McKinley plus a brother Ford.

I bet their parents are Republicans. :)

Once I got married, my initials became LSD. How stinky is that?

:rotfl: They were my initials PRE marriage. Which means my parents actually did that to me!

I remember when monogramming was "in" and my luggage during my teen years boasted LSD.

I know a girl named Tally. Thats short for, well, Tally. :goodvibes

My cousin named her little girl Pariss. Thankfull she added an extra "s" at the end. This was before Paris Hilton's "fame" came into the spotlight. Pariss will be quick to tell you, "I'm Pariss Lynn Stark. NOT Paris Hilton!" It is sooo cute! :flower:

I thought of another one. Some old friends of ours named their son Conner. Not strange at all. but their other choices were Carson (not strange since Carson Daly came on the scene) and St. James...pronounces 'SinJin'.....? I am sure this is an old name, possibly English or Irish, but I don't know, naming your kid "Saint" anything doesn't seem right.

If we had a girl, she would have been named Kalispel, after the city in Montana-which we love...Kali would have been her nickname...but no girls...

Oh yeah, I almost forgot my mom's name, Norma. Not an odd name for a grown woman, but I can't imagine anyone looking down at a newborn infant and saying, "Oh, my sweet little Norma"!

Miranda, I love how that little banana is dancing on your head!!

my dad's real name is homer..........since no one in my family reads the dis i am safe to post this.

he tells everyone his name is bob.....

 Thank ya! Thank ya! (Banana says thank you, too!)

Oh, my parents (okay, just my dad) were thinking about naming me Kacia. Kinna different.

Ultimately, my dad was the decider of my name. Seeing as my name is Miranda, can anyone guess what profession my dad is retired from???? :rolleyes2

Police Officer?

Hi,

Miranda: Your dad is a retired policeman, right?

I'm James Lawrence, my brother is Stephen Allen (his wife is Bonnie Lynn), and my sister is Lynda (originally Linda) Mary. I have nephews named Douglas, Sean and Joshua. My late niece was Julie. Great nephews Riley, Avery, Carter and Hunter.

Cousins Tom, Dan, Larry, Steven, Lori, January (born January 10; we call her Jan), Janet, Anne, and Michael. In California: Mary Lou, Michael, Mitchell, Michael Frank, Cassidy, Brandon, and Stephanie.

My Kintergarden teacher's name was Ms. Limeburger. (We all called her Ms. Greenbooger. :earboy2: Hey, we were five!)
My second grade teacher's name was Miss Christmas.
My great aunt's name was Fern, which I think is uber cool. (She passed away in the 1940s, it might be an old fashioned name that was more popular back then)
One of my best friend's has a pretty interesting first and middle name: Steel Silver

In terms of less ususal names, I really like the name Scout for girls (from my favorite book To Kill a Mockingbird) as well as Libby, Phoebe, and Chloe.

Changing name to protect the ignorant, oops I mean innocent:

son of Lynn Marvin Martin, Jr:
Lynn Marvin Martin, Jr the III

it's interesting to read about the differences on names across the water.

James is a very common traditional name here in the uk.
StJames pronouced SinJin was a common name when I was growing up, it is a traditional irish name.

As far as kids go for us : When/if we have any....

Alexandia Elizabeth would be our first born Daughter - which is my GGGM first name and my GM first name (also MIL & SIL have elizabeth as middle name)
but we have checked that her itials are not weird or rude AEC and we can shorten her name to Alex or Dia depending on if she is a tom-boy like i was or a little princess

DH also likes the name Kayleigh - which is growing on me....

Boys names we are still struggling on i have always liked

Jared John - can be shorted to JJ (John is DH middle name & his Dads first)
i also like the name Jareth which is more unusal, but only people DH has ever met with the name Jared have been hopeless so it keeps putting him off.

other possibilites are Nathanial (although I prefer Nathan) and David is still a possibility after my dad.

My name has become more unusal now than it was when i was born..

Toni - middle name Ann my Grandmother tried to call me Toni-Ann, but my mother resisted.
Most people assume it is shortening of Antonia, but it isnt. When i reasched secondary school there were two other girls in my class with the same name, one spelt same as mine and the other - Tonie

As a scout leader I have come across some other unique names

Tahleya
Cianna
Dalen
Tobias
Siobhan (traditional irish name)
Maxwell
Ocean (boy)
Teddy (boy - not a shortening of edward)
Tilly

Toni

I am a minority, but I think unique names are a diservice to the child. It is not fair to saddle an innocent child with a goofy name or an unusual spelling. If you want to practice your name creativity do it on your goldfish and not your child.
