Strange Children's names...

I think it's because Ian Ziering pronounced his name I-an.
I had never heard it pronounced like that before him. After hearing it that way a bunch of times on Entertainment tonight, I bet a lot who were not familiar with the name before think that's the usual pronounciation.

I have an Ian. And I have to agree with you about the Ian Ziering thing.

SO's daughter had a baby girl in July and named her: Jalyn Riyana (JAY-Lin Ree-AH-nah)

Went to church with a woman named Diana who married a man who's last name was Diana. So now she's Diana Diana.

I thought her father always called her Katie Scarlett.

Hmmm. Maybe, but I thought he only said it that one time. I am not going to watch the movie to find out, so I'll take your word for it. :goodvibes

On my DS's soccer team last year there were two boys (brothers) named Rocket and Racer. There was also a boy in his class named Tank. My oldest son is Harrison. I love the name, but you certainly don't hear it very often.

I once came across the name Brian R. Bryan. We used to joke that the R stood for Ryan.

Oh, and Xochitl...........mom pronounces it sort of like "social".

There are a lot of references to urban legend names on here. I wonder if people are hearing them and deciding to do it for real, or if these are "friend of a friend"-type stories.

And, those of you in the Dakotas, would you believe they used Nakota because Dakota was too common?

I haven't read all the posts so I'm not sure if this has already been addresses. Xiochitl is a Mayan name.

The names of my boys are not unusual here, but I've lost count of how many times Americans have said "How do you say that", is that a boy or a girl ?

Their names area Jadyn and Lachlan

Jadyn is Spanish and Lachlan is Scottish

Actually John McEnroe and Tatum O'Neill have a son Jaiden (think that is how they spell theirs).

Other spellings are.....Jayden, Jaden, Jadin, Jaydn

I knew a friend who knew a friend named Axis Oceania
I was in a store with a girl named Americus
I knew a little girl named Ocean

My daughter's name is Roxanne Carmella(middle name after my grandma). She goes by Roxy.We have had so many comments on her name even in the hospital, people seemed so surprised by her name(normal but not used often).I must admit I got her name from guiding light when I was in high school and it was the only one me and dh could agree on.My boys are Cody and Alex.If I would have know how popular Alex was I never would have used it.

Tell you're sister what a great name! Happens to ne mine and people either spell it wrong or call me Connie! How they get Connie out of Colleen is beyond me! :rotfl:

My sister's name was Colleen. Not a terribly unusual name, but kind of funny since her birthday was on St. Patrick's Day. :shamrock:

Count me in as having an Ian who everyone wants to pronouce EYE AN...

If Ian had been a girl, we wanted the middle name after dh's grandma who passed away but we loved the first name Ella. Well we put it together and had to say no way... his gma's name was Veda. Say it out loud... Ella Vada HEE HEE!

My sister's boys both have names that are common but she changed/added a letter to make it unique... her older is Nevin & younger is Kyler.

There were siblings (brother/sister) who were named River and Lake where we used to go to church. River I could understand because of the actor River Phoenix, but Lake??? Poor kids are never going to have any lunch money.

Went to school with a girl named Nova.

Anyone mention the twins in SC named Orangejello and Limejello? That was one tired mother- just look up in the cupboard to name the newest kids! Pronounced with a bit of an accent (Au RON gello and Lom gello).

I think that is one of those urban legends that someone else on this thread discussed.

My maiden name was Squirrell. The animal name is spelled with one 'l' on the end. My family name has 2. I actually miss that quite a bit, it was unusual and a bit of conversation always happened because of it when I introduced myself.

My son is Michael but I call him 'Jr.'

A guy I knew in High School - his name was Gordon III but everyone still calls him Trey (french for 3)

My DH is Michael but with so many around eventually his nickname with one family became toots and with me now it is 'Sr.'

An employee at a nursing home here in town named her twin boys Hunter and Fisher.

Went to school with a girl named Voula Stravoula (1st and middle name).

There are a lot of gun type names here as well... Remington, Gage, etc.

Is this one on Snopes.com?

If you google these two names, it seems that they were in so many schools.

Not doubting you at all, just always wanted to know the real story behind The Jellos :rotfl: :rotfl:

dh and i worked in social services for many years and came across a set of twins "lemonjello and orangello" in the foster care system. the story went that the mother not knowin she was carrying twins looked out her hospital window and asked god for guidance:she saw the jello sign on a billboard across the street. names like these came to be referred to as "demerol names" (mom's still feeling no pain when she names them). other choice names of this genra include:

his royal majesty
my prescious (a boy)
kunta kinte fudge (????-a roots fan with a chocolate obsession?)
chasetitty (wanted chastity but could not spell it)
my boo (a boy)
and our personal favorites : the cocks kids (yes that's how the last name is spelled) the boy: ima cocks, the girl: fonda cocks.

i went to school with nathan hale, monalisa, ashley furness, morning dove and her sister echo.

Eek, whenever I hear the name Gage I always think of "Pet Cemetary." *shudder*

My second youngest sons name is Herne. Herne was a Celtic God. It honors my Mother Irish/Scottish heratige and goes with her maiden name, Ammon, which is Herne's middle name. All the rest of the kids have normal names, although Gerald and Eugene are old fashion (family names), Steven is normal.
