Stove recomendations?

arrggghhhhh my stove just bit the dust. It just wont heat. I made dinner then put dessert in, left it on and no more heat

Just nothing.


So I guess tomorrow I will be going shopping

Anyone have a really great freestanding stove or one theyve been wanting?

Keep in mind were on a budget I dont want dirt cheap but I cant spend 2 grand either.

Well im no stove pro but there is one good quality to have in a stove... one that doesnt catch fire.

Well it heated back up for a bit ( Thankfully because I would have had a mutiny on my hands if those brownies hadnt come out!)

Does this mean it was a fluke? Or is it on its way out?

We inherited it when we moved in. I have no idea how old it is but I dont think its terribly old. Its just a regular electric range.

One feature I like on my stove is the ceramic stove-top... very easy to clean. You just scrape the thicker food deposits with a straight razor and then use ceramic stove-top cleaner to polish the stove top.

One feature I would love to have on my next stove: a warming oven. My Mom's new stove has a warming oven on the bottom where older-styled stoves have a storage drawer. A warming oven would be wonderful for bread and such!

If it's not too old, it may be quite a bit less money to have your stove repaired. You may just have a broken heating coil or something.

We have a GE Profile that I really like. It has sealed burners and a center griddle plate. The oven lets you know when it's heated to the required temp.

These may be standard features but they're new and welcome to me since our last stove was 17 years old.

In one house I have a glass top stove-it sounds like the ceramic top mentioned above. I have had it 8 years and the burner areas are looking kind of yucky-the markings on the burner areas are wearing off. I wouldn't get another one. It also cooks slower than the stove I have in my other house.In house #2 I just got a new wolf range top. It is so cool!!! It has the regular low-hi control, but it also has a simmer setting. LOVE it! Only thing is, it looks/feels like it might of been expensive-I forgot to look .

I agree with the ceramic top. They are WONDERFUL. Just don't get a light colored one, they do tend to discolor over time. We had a black one with speckles in it and I REALLY, REALLY miss it. Also make sure you get a self cleaning oven, they are better insulated then a non-selfcleaning and who likes to clean an oven anyway . Home Depot has the smooth top, self-cleaners for around $500. I am sure that is a pretty average price.

When our stove died in January we went with gas and I love it! When our dryer dies we're going with gas there too!

Binny, it may be your heating element that went kaput. Instead of buying a whole new stove, go to a appliance repair store. Buy a new heating element. It just plugs in, easy, easy to replace. I don't know how much they cost, but under $50 for sure. Worth a try before you buy a new stove.

But if you want a new stove. I love my GE Profile with the ceramic top. Very nice, the oven stays a consistant temp. and runs great.

We got a GE Profile gas range about a month ago and I LOVE it. Very easy to clean, looks great (I love the stainless), features that we actually use. We paid about $1300.

We just bought this one...

I haven't even had a chance to cook on it yet! It was put in our new house that we were supposed to have closed on yesterday, but didn't. (long...long..story) So now I have to wait until Tues.!

It seems pretty cool though. It has the second oven on the bottom, and you can choose regular or covection cooking. It has an automatic adjuster for the convection, so no more trying to figure that out! It also has a bridge element, and warming zone on the cook top.

Lowes had it on sale when I was in there yesterday for $1,100.

I love mine! It's free-standing, but has a built-in look to it. I think we spent somewhere around $1,000 for it. It's in the Frigidaire Professional Series line. GE makes one almost indentical to it, for twice as much.

It might just be the heating coil, we had one go out on us once. It lit up just like a sparkler, all the way around! It cost $30 to replace. You could try that and then see if you really think it's on its last leg, maybe it'll give a little more time to save for a new one? Worth a try! Miss ya!

Thanks, I will look into the heating coil. I really want a new stove but we will see. It really isnt in the budget right now
