Stopping at the Beach off I-95

We're driving down from Charlotte to Orlando in Early June, and were wondering if there was any place off I-95 where we could stop at the ocean really quick, just to dip our feet and take some pictures.

I've never really had the chance to catch the beach/ocean type deal, and just wanted to make it a lunch stop, or something. Definately something no longer than 15-20 minutes off of I-95 if possible.

I have a couple of suggestions for you.

Try St. Augustine. Nice little town to look around if you want or you can just go to the beach. I think the beach is probably 15 min. max from I-95. There are plenty of places for lunch, from Cracker Barrel right off the interstate to local seafood restaurants. We have stopped there several times, sometimes spending the night, other times just eating lunch and a quick look around. DH family used to stay there for their summer vacation years ago. One year that we stayed the night, we got to see the Space Shuttle taking off from Cape Canaveral. That was cool!!

Another suggestion is Daytona. We have also stopped there a couple of times also. Last year we stopped on the way back for lunch and let the kids get in the ocean for a bit. We ate at a really good bar-b-q place then. Of course, Daytona will have any type of food you want. I think it is only 5-10 minutes from I-95, maybe not even that far.

Notably, St. Augustine is also the oldest permanent European settlement in North America. We keep meaning to take a side trip there one year, but have not yet managed to. Now that a childhood friend of my DW is there, maybe we'll manage.
