Stop the healthy crazy buns already!

I don't mind the buns and I like whole grain and multigrain in general, always have.

However, I don't see why so many people are getting so agitated over this. It's the bun on a fast food burger -- it's not like they defaced a Monet or something.

Like a dagger in my heart... (gasp)

I'm one of those who take those burgers and hot dogs very seriously.

While I actually like whole grain buns better, I do understand why other people are getting agitated over this. Disney has built a multi-billion dollar enterprise on, essentially, getting (us) otherwise reasonable people to pay a lot more for things than they're intrinsically worth. That kind of passion sometimes leads some folks to the kind of passion you're commenting on, when things are not precisely right. I've seen similar passion directed towards a tiny amount of burnt-out light bulbs, and at the replacement of one pork entree with another entree at a restaurant, and at the retirement of an older attraction, and even the kind of jewelry that employees are being allowed to wear.

I hate the buns too and can't believe they've lasted this long but more because they have soy and I can never have any buns at WDW because those awful things are everywhere. The saddest thing though is that they aren't even healthy they are white bread with multi grain ingredients added to make them appear healthy. First ingredient is plain old wheat flour and way up there was high fructose corn syrup and then small amounts of whole grains. They are Merita Autumn Grain (or were on our last trip when we checked allergy ingredients) which also supplies Walmart with their .39 loaves of bread......

I don't have a problem with the buns at Disney. I have never had one fall apart and they don't seem dry to me.

If you take burgers seriously, the Disney burger would be a non issue. These are not burgers for serious burger people. These are burgers for theme parks.

Are they worth the money? Probably not. SHOULD they be better? Absolutely. But they're not, and even the perfect bun won't change that. Heck, Disney burgers don't even come close to Five Guys, and that's just a fast food chain (albeit it a decent one).

Don't worry, they're not 'healthy', I'm sure they still have corn syrup in them and mostly white flour. ;)

big big sigh here too.

When we go to Disney...two or so times a year.......We like to have a burger because they taste good.......We dont eat hamburgers at home or at a fast food place so going to Disney we found these to be tasty..
BUT alas.....when they changed them to the multigrain stuff...and I could not put on catsup or onions and mushrooms from the add on bars.....they were like a mess in our hands......so we dont do these anymore..
My husband did threaten to bring hamburg buns from home and say HOLD THE BUN THEN we can put it on ours and warm up in the microwave at the food court.

Hope you all have a great time in Disney when you go.....just tell them to hold the bun

The buns are nasty. Plain and simple. They should have a choice of wheat or white. Most people would take the white. These are dry, crumbly, and just unappealing.

What is funny--they really aren't all that healthier than a white bun....

What else is funny--I always prefer a little something in my bread and liked the change.

I did not know Disney sold hot dogs?? LOL, but really I have never had a hot dog from disney:confused3. But the wheat buns a very good, but thats me I was raised on wheat bread. I have not notice the buns falling apart on me,when it comes to my hambugers, and let me tell you know one loads them up like me?. You can get old bread,so maybe thats whats happing here?.

I agree with the OP, even though at home we are of the "whiter the bread, the quicker your dead" camp. LOL I think you should at least have a choice. If I am going to splurge on a nasty fattening greasy and divinely yummy hot dog, give it to me on a fat white bun! :thumbsup2

I agree. We are here now and I won't eat them. We were at B&C last night and the subject came up. The server agreed that buns are not good. We ate at Margarittaville a few days ago and the server said that is where he goes for a good cheeseburger too.

Note also that, even though the current buns aren't really healthy, that does not mean that the older buns weren't worse for you. But I agree that it isn't about healthiness as much as it is about making it seem like Disney is offering healthier choices. This comes in response to the over-the-top chest-beating and other assorted ridiculous mud-slinging and bashing that the typical American consumer has slung at restaurants in the past few years, trying to shift their own responsibility for their own poor eating choices onto the businesses that were simply giving them that which they best rewarded those businesses for offering. While I'm all for eateries offering (truly) healthier choices, what we have today is more a reflection the vacuous knee-jerk reaction of the typical American consumer than anything else, and there rests the blame for the poor choices we have, regardless of which why you deem these choices poor.

Dryness has nothing to do with whole wheat versus white flour. It has to do with cost and with spoilage. We eat exclusively whole grain bread and rolls, and the ones we buy are not the slightest bit dry.

We eat whole grain bread, can't stand the white stuff. WDW buns are like cardboard and they fall apart at the 2nd bite. They seen to increase prices everywhere and then get the cheap crap in other places.

Those buns have to go, either buy goo quality whole wheat that doesn't fall apart like saw dust or go back to the white bread.

As far as them falling apart, the ones who haven't experienced it are lucky. WE go very and I mean very often, it only takes us 2.5 hours to get there. When I go I eat junk food, those buns fall apart on me every time. There are many more people that have experienced this and have not. Even my DH looked at my first one after the switch and said what in the heck happened to your bun? He wasn't eating one at the time. This was just after the change to the new buns.

We find that we're lucky with regard to myriad aspects of WDW vacations. I wonder if we could turn that into a business: "Vacation with us to reduce your chances of experiencing bad things that other folks experience." That would be so cool.

Someone posted on another thread awhile back that the wheat buns tend to dry out quickly once the package is opened and that's what causes them to crumble. With thousands of people eating at WDW I can't imaging theirs to sit around going dry. When I get a Subway sandwich, it's always on their 9 grain wheat bread (so I do like wheat bread) and have never had a problem. I'm thinking it has more to do with an inferior product that plays into budget cuts at WDW than the actual type of bread used. My first encounter with a "crumble" bun was a few years ago at the Backlot Express in the studios. I have always eaten my hot dogs plain, so there's no issue with condiments. The bun literally fell apart in my hands. In any case, there are no options avaiable. Also, since I don't use condiments on a hot dog, there is nothing to mask the quality (or lack of) of the hot dog and that's when you really notice how bad they have gotten. You may have noticed that the CS hot dogs now come with chili unless you ask for them plain.

The quality of the burgers and hot dogs has been creeping downward for quite some time. I can remember when even a CS burger or hot dog was pretty decent, probably not as good as your favorite chain products, but good enough that you didn't mind spending a few extra dollars. The changes were subtle for years, but in the past few years they have been anything but subtle.

OP-I agree with you. I am not a huge hot dog eater, but, if I do eat one, I prefer just a normal white bun. I never jumped on the whole multigrain/wheat bread bandwagon. A hot dog is a hot dog, it doesn't matter what bun you use, it's not a healty option.
