Stolen Stateroom Magnets?

DW made an awesome set of magnets (she has an art degree) with a hand drawn Han Solo, Princess Leia, 2 Jawas with pink & purple 'hair ribbons' and a Luke Skywalker. All 5 were pseudo-cartoony & lots of fun. One of the Jawas was stolen first night out (and returned the next night!), but Han Solo was taken and never returned.

Since then, we've gone low tech with scads of foam turtles, homemade spiders (for HoTHS), Christmas trees (Merrytime) and so on. Still disappointed that someone swiped the Star Wars ones. It was a Dream 3 night on deck 10, midships.

Yep, it's a possibility, just like when you're back home dealing with porch pirates. The magnets and FEs are on the outside of your room facing a public area. The risk of them "walking off" is inherently there.

We have a large Mickey and Minnie that we made in to magnets and have taken them on many cruises with no problem. However on a recent cruise on the Wonder Mickey was taken. We removed Minnie from the door and walked the decks. We found Mickey on a door on one of the top decks.

There was someone on our cruise that had their door FILLED with magnets. It was so great. They even had a thing hanging from the ceiling (right against the door, so not an obstruction at all) listing all their cruises. Then, a few days in to our cruise, I was going to take a photo and they were all gone. The door was empty. I never saw the family, so I couldn't ask what happened. I don't know if that one hanging bothered the stateroom host and they were told to remove them or if some were stolen or if something happened to the family and they'd left the ship. It was a sad walk through that hallway after that, though. I love seeing the decorations.

Ack, you all are making me nervous!!! I worked so hard on my homemade magnets. Fingers crossed - we are all the way forward so not near any elevators so hopefully not too many people will be walking by my cabin. Sounds like this is enough of an epidemic the cruise should start making some sort of announcement that magnets and fish extender contents belong to the stateroom they are on and are not intended for sharing. I see a lot of confused comments about FE and pixie dusting on facebook and it sounds like some people may genuinely think that the magnets and FE toys are an "open exchange" for anyone to take. I specifically recall one comment asking if you "have to" give gifts to participate in the FE.

On this note, I see that no one makes the printables for free anymore on this forum. :worried:

I noticed that, too. There are other places to find free DCL graphics online now. And you can also search for Disney graphics and then put your name on them. I do miss the design threads that were here though.

Really? An announcement? I really don't think an announcement is necessary or would do any good. Those who are going to take things that don't belong to them are going to to do it anyway. People know these things aren't there for the taking. (Also notice this is a very old thread.)
I wouldn't worry about your magnets. I think it's rare that they are taken. If you're far forward, as you say, there is even less likelihood. Don't worry and enjoy your cruise and your magnets.

Not even on the creative board? I was on there the other day and at least one person was still designing.

doesn't happen often, but there isn't any way to absolutely avoid it. Putting your name on it might deter those who want to keep the magnet, but it won't deter the ones just out to cause mischief.

and in that case, a "don't steal the magnets" announcement might as well be a "steal the magnets" announcement. At any rate, DCL doesn't endorse or become involved with either the use of door decorations or fish extenders (except in cases where the decorations are applied in violation of DCL policy). That's all on the passengers.

Lol, I didn’t see how old the OP post was—I guess it is pretty infrequent. It just seems crazy to me that people would pay so much for a cruise and then engage in petty theft, so I figured some of it had to people who think that FE and magnets are gifts for anyone to take, like a bowl of candy left out on a porch on Halloween for people to help themselves. Or maybe people are just jerks.

When I was on my cruise in December, I had really nice Santa Mickey magnets that I purchased from Etsy (all the pieces were actual magnets and not laminated card stock). Every piece was stolen except the three with our names during our second morning after breakfast and before I came back about an hour later. I walked all round looking for them but didn't notice them.

I reported it to guest services just to make them aware in case someone else reported a similar issue. Guest services was so kind to Pixie dust us magnets for our door to replace them. They were placed on our door the next morning pretty high up. Once again, we left for about an hour or so. They were gone as well.

I don't think in our case it was kids and I think it had to be somebody close by who knew we were gone from the room. This particular cruise had a lot of decorated doors. It was disappointing but it won't stop me from decorating my door again. I would even buy the same magnets if I am ever able to go on a Christmas cruise again.

I wonder what software they use. I wouldn't mind just doing it myself, but I want to personalize them.

Where's the creative board?

Bottom line... If something is important to you and will crush you if it is stolen, put it on the inside of your door. Only put out what you are willing to risk.

We want to use the magnets so our kids can identify our stateroom, so we'll have to chance it... Fingers crossed + (probably misplaced) faith in humanity!

We've never had a magnet stolen. Most people would never do that, but, just like everywhere else in the world, there are people on Disney cruises who would.
