Does it really hurt?????
Treading into murky waters here, because one person's "tickle" is another's "torture" but...
I'll attempt to explain the harness' design and purpose.
In addition to containing the stereo speakers for the audio effects,
the shoulder-harnesses are part of the attraction's PHYSICAL effects.
They lower before the main part of the show begins and touch your shoulders, then retract above your shoulders.
They are designed to appear "threatening" (they are the same ones used previously in
Alien Encounter: The Extra Terrrorestrial and that show was supposed to make you feel VERY uneasy to be sitting in your seats.)
In fact, the seats, themselves are designed to feel uncomfortable.
During the show, the harnesses move down a bit and touch your shoulders (again) as "Stitch is jumping around the room" in the darkness (HE is supposed to be the one who is pushing down on your harness.)
Now, I can't say the someone was not "hurt" who says they were "hurt" by these harnesses, but they (like a snarling dog) do LOOK very "mean" as they come down over your head and touch your shoulders.
And, if you were not expecting them to touch you in the dark and you lurched up as you felt them move down, it is possible that you might experience something akin to pain.
Again, I can't begin to tell anyone what did or did not happen to them, but having been in the attraction (
Alien Encounterl and
Stitch's Great Escape many many times, I will say that what happens to my shoulders is not dangerous or lastingly painful... but, again, that's just ME.
(I will say that I have not read any reports of
injuries from the harnesses.)
