Stitch - Is this the worst?

Did Stitch last week It was the biggest waste of time I'v ever done in my life at disney. I never did AE so can't compare the 2 but Stitch was AWLFUL.

I'd seen the reports here on the dis so knew not to expect much but DH just had to see for himself. He didn't like it either.

Totally agree!!!
The worst thing Disney has ever tried to pass off as an attraction !!!
Just horrible!

Hmph. To me that dubious distinction goes to the first Figment-less version of Journey Into Imagination that allegedly was rushed into operation for the Y2K celebration.

Fortunately they did improve it to its current state, bringing Figment back into the ride -- and while it may not be as good as the original (but let's face it, NO replacement ride at Disney ever seems to get full fan approval) it's still a fun ride.

So if you hated Stitch, then there's at least reason to hope it'll be improved.

BTW, haven't ridden it yet as Mac hasn't been tall enough. We'll have the in-laws this upcoming trip, so at least we'll have the opportunity to judge for ourselves.

:rotfl: You have a point.... But IMHO .... Journey was not quite as bad.
But I think Stitch takes the prize!
After you have been on Stitch you will have to let us know what you think. :goodvibes

With regard to Figment at Epcot, that is pretty bad too although you can take younger ones on that.

I thought Stitch was good. Not great, just good. I do think that most of the ones who've hated this ride compare it to AE. AE was a bit too intense for the little ones and SGE was created to make it more kid friendly. But, I'm not for sure they succeeded with the kid friendly aspect. Many mixed reviews from the little ones. However, my kids loved it. So did my wife.

Well whether it's fair or not, anytime you have an attraction that replaces another you're going to get that to some degree (and usually the one that got replaced always seems to become more beloved once it's gone). I've been guilty of it as well.

I am however going to try not to do that when I finally see it for myself.

What is SuperStar Limo? :confused3

It was one of the original rides at Disney's Catastrophic Adventure, and the only dark ride. Less than a year after the park opening, 8 months I believe, it was closed. Not because of safety. Not because of operational problems. It was just because it was awful, and that is not just an exagerration(sp) or opinion, it really was that bad. It is my understanding that despite surveys showing that most thought DCA needed more attractions, they also showed that people's overall satisfaction was higher without SSL. After sitting empty and unused since 2002, they are now converting it to a Monster's Inc. ride.

Cheers.

Alright.

I just got back from WDW, and I made it a point to expose myself to this audio-animatronic controversy that is SGE. I did my best to keep a detachment from Alien Encounter, but a few comparisons will worm their way into the Here are my observations:

1.) This is a very minor gripe, but since this is no longer the Intergalactic Convention Center, they might want to consider changing the name on the TTA recording.

2.) I'd really like to know what's written on that plaque by the door as you go into the briefing room. Not a gripe or anything, I'm just curious like that.

3.) The premise was a little cheesy, but as the one for AE was too I didn't mind it. I did like the way the Grand Councilwoman and Captain Gantu were worked into things (particularly Gantu). I don't know why, but I was half expecting to find more photorealistic interpretations of the characters -- maybe it's because I knew I would see a realistic Stitch during the course of the attraction.

4.) I have to admit, I will always miss S.I.R. with Tim Curry providing the "dripping-with-arrogance" voice (I can still hear him saying "Bon Voyage!" in an almost condescending tone). However, given the refit and different feel of the transporter room I doubt he'd have fit in well with it. Besides, even though 'Sarge' was a little over-the-top with hysterics he was okay.

5.) I was really glad to see Skippy had been spared the axe -- even though he was reduced to the status of a common criminal. :teeth:

6.) The cannon arms had to be the smoothest, most impressive display of audio-animatronics I've ever seen. The only downside I saw to them is that the barrels did not light up as they 'fired' -- I don't know if they were supposed to or not, but would have been much better IMO if they did.

7.) Stitch was animated well, but would have liked to have seen his movements a bit quicker in nature (as they were in the movie and also in the 'shadow animations' in SGE). That may not have been possible given the limitations of current audio-anmatronics, so I don't feel that strongly about it.

8.) THE CHILI DOG SMELL -- YUCK! I like chili dogs... but I have to be honest, that only had the vaguest semblance to what IMO they usually smell like. It's a good thing I had already eaten lunch because I would have had NO appetite for anything afterwards. This is my sole major gripe with this attraction; they really need to improve the smell of the chili dogs. Yes I know it's supposed to be a little bit gross -- but it doesn't have to be THAT bad.

OVERALL -- Aside from the rancid smell I really can't understand most of the bad reviews SGE is getting. This may not be the greatest attraction WDW has ever seen (which would be hard anyway given some of the classic ones given us over the years), but there's no way it's the worst. As someone else here has said, it's GOOD but not GREAT (although changing the smell would certainly improve things).

AE caught lots of flack for being too intense for younger children, and it looks like SGE tries to be a bit more 'kid friendly' -- which it succeeds to a point. Given the loud noises and periods of total darkness (yes, and the breathing on your neck) I would still suggest that most children under 7 years old should avoid SGE.

Yes, I will miss the old Alien Encounter. I'm sure there were/are fans of the old Mission To The Moon attraction who were saddened when AE replaced it. However, even Walt himself knew that change was inevitable (his "Disneyland will never be finished" quote illustrates that pretty well) and so I accept the knowledge that eventually every ride out there -- with the possible exception of Haunted Mansion and Pirates Of the Caribbean -- will at some point be replaced. This in and of itself should provide a silver lining of sorts to the the Stitch-haters out there: eventually even SGE will be replaced with something else.

FINAL NOTE: As with all personal opinions, this is just my own. your mileage may vary. ;)

I never rode on ae before, always had little ones with me. But we both did Stich this last vacation and even my daughter who  Stitch, said it was aweful!!! She was pretty disappointed:( I didn't care for it either and the harnesses hurt the shoulders too!

Just out of curiosity, if I may ask what specifically did you (or your daughter) not like about it?

The harnesses hurt your shoulders? Hmmm... as I understand it, the harnesses are supposed to come down until they reach your shoulders then back up just a bit so they're hovering just off of them during the attraction. When I did it this weekend (and with all the times we did AE before) I've never experienced any discomfort with them.

I hated Stitch. I am with the others about the Chili Dog wanted to make me barf! It was boring and I kept thinking the whole time that I can't believe I waited in line for 45 minutes just for this!

Hey Disney, bring back AE!

I remember my parents saying much the same thing about waiting in line for 2 hours for Space Mountain...

I have to agree....I didn't like Stitch (and I don't know what Alien Encounter was). We went last November during Thanksgiving. We waited in line for over an hour because one of the theaters was experiencing "technical difficulties" and was closed. I was really ready to bag this attraction, but my DD (age 11) was desperate to go on it as we had not been able to get on it and were going to be heading heading back to NY. So we waited....and waited.....and waited. I can't even tell you how disappointed I was when we finally got in. And to top it off, after her father, sister and I had waited patiently for the ride, my DD hated it too! She really doesn't like the dark and we were not expecting such complete darkness. I don't know about everyone else, but I thought the seats were pretty harsh too. My backbone felt bruised after the ride.

I remember hating Alien Encounter -- thought it was loud and obnoxious, rather than scary, and my seat didn't work, because everybody was screaming and I never did figure out why.

Stich wasn't great, but I enjoyed it. And my seat worked. Agree about the uncomfortable shoulder restraint. And the screaming children (but since the majority of the wails hit as soon as the lights went out, and elsewhere in the park I also noticed that phenomenon, I think it was fear of the dark more than the attraction itself).

I'd do it again if it was a walk on -- it's dark and cool. I did leave liking it better than I had AE.
