Based on all the terrible reviews on the boards I had planned on skipping Stitch and Tough to be a Bug. But my DS 6 said he thought the Stitch ride looked cool in the planning DVD. Dark and smells won't creep him out. What is it about Stitch that has everyone hating it so much?

On the same note, have read numerous reviews about It's Tough to be a Bug saying much the same thing-that many don't like it and it can creep out even bug lovers. Does it contain larger-than-life live footage of actual bugs, or is it all animated type stuff?

I'm pregnant and somewhat prone to motion sickness and also generallly grossed out by bugs (can't read DS his library book about ladybugs b/c the mouth thing grosses me out). Have no idea how much those factors might come into play in either of these attractions.

Just looking for some clues on if these are:
1. Skip altogether
2. Whole family attends
3. Dad duty

We went on Stitch (DH and I) for the first time in 07 and hated it, but that was just because of the smell. The ride doesn't move, there is nothing particularly interesting about it (I liked Alien Encounter MUCH better)...but the smell was just aweful. Unless you know when it's coming, it's hard to avoid. Some say it smells like chilli, I say it smells like vommit.

As far as It's Tough to be a Bug, I also went on that the first time during our 07 trip and enjoyed it. If you have ever been on Honey I Shrunk the Audience, it's very similar---but with bugs. There are bursts of air that make you feel like something touched you, the seat moves to make it feel like there is something either moving under you (or something). In the Bug ride, there was a woman with a child who ended up leaving and I don't have any children so I can't guage how scary it would be for them.

My recommendation would be to skip Stitch unless your DS reeeeeeeally wants to go on it, and to go on Bug---to me, it was one of my favorite AK attractions and I hate bugs! :thumbsup2

Opinions are like noses...

Our family enjoys both of these. Stitch is commonly reviled, but we think it's a cute attraction. It looks like it's a ride, but in actuality, it's a show. You do have to deal with Stitch burping a chili dog in your face and whispering in your ear, but we enjoy it - my own DS especially.

ITTBAB is again one that we all enjoy. It terrified my DD when she was 7 - but she's a huge chicken. It did scare my DS when he was 5, but he is scared of bugs.

Basically, the idea is that Flik and the "good" bugs from a Bug's Life are going to put on a show, but Hopper and the bad guys have plans to get back at humanity for the terrible things we do to bugs. They spray "bug spray" at the audience (some fog), spit "acid" at you (water droplets), come to "sting" you (chair back pokes you slightly), that sort of thing. It a fun show, but can be scary for small children. Adults and older kids will not find it at all scary, though a coupl eof moments can give you the willies a bit (such as when your chair does fun things).

Hope that gives you enough info to make an informed decision.

Aww I think if he really wants to go on Stitch then let him. I went on it once and that was enough for me.

I love It's Tough to be A Bug. It's cute. I think your son will like it.

never did Stitch

bug - my 13 year old still won't go in it - went at age 4 - took my 8 year old last year - told her everything to expect had her sit forward in the chair so the stuff that happens at the back of chair and on your legs didn't effect - her - she loved it! it is also darka nd cavelike - many crying little kids!

as an adult you should be fine - warn the age 4 and up what is coming - hold little ones inyour lap and should be good

Stitch is just lame. Everyone in our family refuses to go on it. We first rode it in 2005 when my boys were almost 4 and 6. We gave it another shot in 2006. We haven't been back on since. It is boring, disgusting and long. I would give it a shot. If you don't like it, you don't have to go back on it again.

As for It's Tough to be a Bug, I would recommend it for your DH and DS. If you are really that disgusted by bugs I would skip it it. It is a really cute show and we all enjoy it. It is all about bugs and you do get certain sensations during the show. It sounds like something you wouldn't really enjoy.

Thanks...this is just the info I was hoping for. I think my DS will love both of these-he's very much "the grosser, the better"
On Stitch-I'll just have to play by ear on if smells are grossing me out that day. If so, it will just be a good bonding experience for the boys

On ITTBAB is there footage of actual live bugs? I think I can deal with the sensations you described, but big, huge, bug legs will totally get to me.

I didn't like Stitch because it came off as rather lame and it smelled bad.

I saw It's Tough To Be A Bug when I was young probably around 8 or so because my parents though it would be "cute". I was so tramautized by it and spent most of the show hiding my head and wanting to leave. I still will not go on it at almost 22 years old.

Honey, I shrunk the audience had much the same effect with the cat/snake thing.

I say Dad Duty. If your kid doesn't get to go on things because you heard they were bad, they might just become the ONLY things he wants to go on! :-)

You take some time to grab a frozen coke an get off your feet and let papa take him to the weird rides. ;-)

I think Stich unjusty gets a bad rap!.For one its not a ride, you never never get on anything that moves there Is no simuilator so I think thats were folks get disspointed at they go In expexting It to be ride where Its more of a show In diffrent stages, yeas there Is stiches Burp at the end that grosses every one out:eek:,but really i think we have all smelt stuff much worse!.Me and my DS go on It all the time we like It:goodvibes. Now for tough to be a bug,I think It goes with there fear of Bugs. Its all animated 3-D screen with some anomatics In the shape of some big bugs, but from the movie It self Its not supposed to look like real bugs, and then there Is the smilauted fog(Its suppose to be bug spray). Now the theater it suppose to look like Its under ground and the que area can get kind of tight, they try to get as may people In this area as possiple,so If you calstohibia(I tor that word up,basicly a fear of Inclosed places) or like your self a extrem fear of Bugs(I was not even going to try to spell that word) then ya may be you would want to sit this out.But really there both really funny, and enjoyble for the whole Family.

For Stitch, my youngest loves it because he likes Stitch. I suffer through it with him. I just find the ride somewhat boring and not as well done as other Disney attractions. Plus, I got reprimanded by a cast member last time for taking a picture (without a flash) of the animatronics in the waiting area. I know the "no flash photography" rules, but I didn't realize it was no pictures period.

For Tough to Be a Bug, it's actually a well-done 3-D show. I like the show, but prefer Mickey's Philharmagic. The Tought to Be a Bug show can be very intimidating for young ones as it's quite loud, dark and bugs are everywhere when they "attack" (on the seats, at your feet, dropping from the ceiling, flying around in 3-D, and the sound makes it seem like they are everywhere). It's a good diversion at Animal Kingdom and I'd recommend it for adults. Parents should decide how their own kids can handle it. If it's the first 3-D show you see at WDW, they might not want to do any of the others. Some good kid-friendly 3-D shows are Mickey's Philharmagic and the Muppetvision 3-D.

You can go on youtube.com to see videos of both these rides. Of course it won't have anywhere near the full 4D sensation but it will give you a reasonable idea of what to expect. You can listen to the screaming and crying in the crowds and judge for yourself. I haven't been on Stitch because of all the bad reviews but I did watch the video. Man I miss Alien Encounter. Totally un-Disney but probably the most creative thing at WDW in the last 25 years. I think too many people thought the warnings about it being extremely scary were part of the theming rather than the dire warnings that they really were.

I didn't know so many people think Stich is lame. I went on it a few years back not knowing what to expect and thought it was funny.

Last night I put it on my must-ride list when planning with my family!

I agree its not a ride its more of a virtual-realality/imagination thing. I can get into it.

But it is what it is - potty humor. I can see some people not enjoying the "burps" and then a whole group of others laughing away.

I also like Stitch - I think he is cute.

Stitch is typically a short line and even though it certainly is not a great ride, it isn't as bad as most people make it out to be.

However, It's Tough To Be A Bug is one of my all-time favorite attractions. It definitely might be frightening for younger children, but it is a great show that always gets a great reaction. Don't miss this show! :thumbsup2

It's all animated. Frankly, I don't see how a bug lover could be bothered by it. I'm no bug lover (when gardening, most bugs I will touch only with gloves or tools) but I loved this show -- and all the other 3D shows in WDW.

We hate Stitch, due to smell, it is so gross.

About ITTBB it is not so bad, I will ride it again, but Stitch I will not.

Due that you are pregnant, maybe you must avoit both.......

I have ridden Stitch twice. It was so lame the first time that I couldn't remember anything about it. That's why I rode it the second time because I forgot. It was very forgettable. It certainly is not a ride and it's the most boring pointless show I have ever seen. I will not be back. There are better things you could with your time.

ITTBAB is great. I think it's one of the best 3D shows on property. It can be a little surprising, scary to small children. When my girls were little I prepared them advance for what to expect and allowed them to sit in my lap if they wanted or sit forward on the seat. They were fine.

I think OP is really concerned about how their DS6 will take the shows.

Stich...it's not particularly scary...but it DOES get dark, Stich Escapes and is simulated jumping around the room in the dark. The key is this...each of the seats has a shoulder harness that scruches down onto your shoulders, successfully separating you and your child. If your child is easily freaked out in the dark, this is probably not the ride for them. As I said, nothing particularly scary happens, but that doesn't mean your kid won't be scared...we took a friends DD9 on it two years ago, and she held my hand the whole time anticipating that something bad would happen. If your kid wants to go on it, warn them about the seats, tell him nothing bad happens, and let them know they can hold your hand if he gets scared. As a view from an adult...this ride sucks and I would never go again of my own choice.

The Bugs life movie is great, but it is essentially 15 minutes of stuff being shot at you...in 3D...in the dark. There are also motion simulators in the seats that blow air, water at you, simulate bugs swarming around your feet and stinging you in the back. It is all animated bugs. It's again not really scary...but more *BOO!* surprises. (make you jump) Like Stitch, it all depends on your kid, his personality. I probably wouldn't take a child younger than 6, but at 6 I would check his interest, tell him what to expect, and go from there.

Enjoy!

Never been on Stitch - I was a huge fan of Alien Encounter ( still miss Skippy <sigh>) so I'm still on my one woman strike against Stitch.

Went on Tough to be a Bug at DL - it's actually very cute :)

The lack of much that kept my attention is why I did not like Stitch. So much is in complete darkness and unless Stitch is jumping on your shoulder or whatever, you are just sitting there, pinned to your seat, waiting for something to happen. The nasty smell made me hate it - I do no like hot dog smell, and the idea of smelling a burp is incredibly nasty to me.

I absoutely hate bugs, but think ITTBAB is cute.
