Stitch and Bug-really that bad?

DH and I rode ITTTBAB with our DD5 and DD2 last month. We all loved it. It is not at all scary. Everything is animated ala Bug's Life.

The one thing to watch out for is the hornets. When they "sting" it sends out a small shock in some of the seats. We didn't have it happen to us, but my sister did when she was there and said it really hurt. The little boy next to us at the show was about 3 and he was ok for the first half, but after the hornets he got hysterical! His mom had to physically restrain him because he just freaked out. I can only guess that he got stung. I kept DD2 on my lap and she was fine. DD5 thought the whole show was great, and she is not terribly brave. As far as motion sickness on that one, no issues. I am the biggest weenie in the world and that was not a problem. Have a great trip.

We sdid Stitch once to check it out. That was enough for us. We really didn't care for it. But if you never tried it, give it a shot and make your own judgement. Don't go on reviews only because you may miss out on something you may enjoy.

As for Bugs life, we love it. We do it at least once every trip. It can get a little dark and scary for little ones. Every show I have seen, I see parents needing to take their kids out mid-show as they didn't pay attention to the scary warning.

For Stitch, my youngest loves it because he likes Stitch. I suffer through it with him. I just find the ride somewhat boring and not as well done as other Disney attractions. Plus, I got reprimanded by a cast member last time for taking a picture (without a flash) of the animatronics in the waiting area. I know the "no flash photography" rules, but I didn't realize it was no pictures period.

For Tough to Be a Bug, it's actually a well-done 3-D show. I like the show, but prefer Mickey's Philharmagic. The Tought to Be a Bug show can be very intimidating for young ones as it's quite loud, dark and bugs are everywhere when they "attack" (on the seats, at your feet, dropping from the ceiling, flying around in 3-D, and the sound makes it seem like they are everywhere). It's a good diversion at Animal Kingdom and I'd recommend it for adults. Parents should decide how their own kids can handle it. If it's the first 3-D show you see at WDW, they might not want to do any of the others. Some good kid-friendly 3-D shows are Mickey's Philharmagic and the Muppetvision 3-D.

This is exactly the way we feel about these attractions. I wish I had taken DD to Philharmagic or Muppets first, since she was pretty intimidated by seeing 3D at ITTBAB for the first time (actually made her a little dizzy), and with the bugs too -- a bit much.

As another poster said, the problem with Stitch is that harnesses come down and trap you to your chair and keep you separate from your child and make it impossible to leave during the attraction. Besides the fact that it makes me claustrophobic, I don't like not being able to wrap an arm around my kid if I wanted to. You can barely even reach over to pat their knee if you're worried that they might not like it or be upset. At least with It's Tough to be a Bug, you can discreetly duck out if you need to. Or if nothing else, cuddle your little one up against you to reassure them.

I like the bug show, but it does have some freaky moments that can scare people. My niece gets scared during it and she is 6 now. It gets really dark and things poke at you. The stink is just like in Figment.

I don't like Stitch because of the harness things and I think they are very uncomfortable especially when Stitch bounces on them. The smell is gross but not awful.

Well I want to say that I dont think that there's anything on Stitch that would be scary. Me, my fiance, and my dad all loved Stitch...but it could be because we're very partial to the movie. We did not bring my daughter on it b/c everyone posted that it was a no no for her being only 3 1/2....but after we did I knew that next time she would do it and be ok. And she'll try it this time in May.

We all did Tough to Be a Bug....and we liked that one too. I went into it knowing what others said about it, but my daughter really liked this movie, so we did it and she really liked the attraction. She sat on my mom's lap though so she didn't feel the surprise @ the end :rolleyes1

For the most part though, my DD LOVED those 3-d type of movies.

Based on all the terrible reviews on the boards I had planned on skipping Stitch and Tough to be a Bug. But my DS 6 said he thought the Stitch ride looked cool in the planning DVD. Dark and smells won't creep him out. What is it about Stitch that has everyone hating it so much?

On the same note, have read numerous reviews about It's Tough to be a Bug saying much the same thing-that many don't like it and it can creep out even bug lovers. Does it contain larger-than-life live footage of actual bugs, or is it all animated type stuff?

I'm pregnant and somewhat prone to motion sickness and also generallly grossed out by bugs (can't read DS his library book about ladybugs b/c the mouth thing grosses me out). Have no idea how much those factors might come into play in either of these attractions.

Just looking for some clues on if these are:
1. Skip altogether
2. Whole family attends
3. Dad duty

Bugs are really cool, but it's FREAKING SCARY! And it pokes you in the back and you feel bugs crawling across. Things pop out, and stuff. Stitch is just painful on my shoulders. It hurt them when I was 10, and 4'9" tall. Not to mention the plot sucks, and it's scary for little kids.

If you ask my DD6 what her favorite ride is at MK she will undoubtedly anwser "Stitch". She thought it was great. I could take it or leave it but I have to admit... a ride that your child loves will grow on you. Let your son give it a try and then judge for yourself. And It's tough to be a bug scared my DD at age 5 but not at age 6 so you will have to know what will scare you DS. I always take my DD on You Tube and show her videos of a ride that I think may frighten her and then I let her decide if she want to ride it on our trip. Have a great trip!

PS - they do have video of these rides on You Tube so maybe just take a look.

These are two of my very favourite rides!

I'm pregnant too and on our next trip I'll just make sure to plug my nose when Stitch mentions chili dogs! :crazy2:

I think OP is really concerned about how their DS6 will take the shows.

Stich...it's not particularly scary...but it DOES get dark, Stich Escapes and is simulated jumping around the room in the dark. The key is this...each of the seats has a shoulder harness that scruches down onto your shoulders, successfully separating you and your child. If your child is easily freaked out in the dark, this is probably not the ride for them. As I said, nothing particularly scary happens, but that doesn't mean your kid won't be scared...we took a friends DD9 on it two years ago, and she held my hand the whole time anticipating that something bad would happen. If your kid wants to go on it, warn them about the seats, tell him nothing bad happens, and let them know they can hold your hand if he gets scared. As a view from an adult...this ride sucks and I would never go again of my own choice.

The Bugs life movie is great, but it is essentially 15 minutes of stuff being shot at you...in 3D...in the dark. There are also motion simulators in the seats that blow air, water at you, simulate bugs swarming around your feet and stinging you in the back. It is all animated bugs. It's again not really scary...but more *BOO!* surprises. (make you jump) Like Stitch, it all depends on your kid, his personality. I probably wouldn't take a child younger than 6, but at 6 I would check his interest, tell him what to expect, and go from there.

Enjoy!

Excellent review of the attractions, and excellent advice IMHO.

If you or your family do Stitch, please tell them (esp the kiddos) to keep their heads back during the "show". When Stitch jumps on your shoulders, you/the kids can get knocked in the jaw, possibly bite their tongue. My oldest dd (8 yrs) leaned forward, I wasn't aware because I couldn't really see her that well do to the restraint. She got hurt and was crying for the rest of the ride. She complained of her jaw and under her chin hurting the rest of the day.

Other than that I didn't mind the attraction, but I was expecting more, since I didn't know if it was a ride or a show like atmosphere. We go back in May, will we ride again? Maybe if the kids ask to.

Just my 2 cents.

Have a great trip!:wizard:

It's Tough to Be A Bug is very very similar to Honey I Shrunk the Audience and Muppets 3D, but there is some interaction with the seats that scares kids, and the dark scares kids too.
The bugs themselves are cartoons and not scary at all. You should be fine with it. We wouldn't miss it! (But we do skip Stitch - yuk)

We recently did Stitch and it was way lame, the chili dog burp was dumb and like others have said the Alien Encounter was awesome. Put it this way the wait for Philharmagic was a 45 minute wait Stitch was 5 minute. That should tell you right there how dumb it is.

Tough to be a bug is pretty cool, but can be a bit much for younger ones or ones who scare easily.

have fun.

Thanks...this is just the info I was hoping for. I think my DS will love both of these-he's very much "the grosser, the better"
On Stitch-I'll just have to play by ear on if smells are grossing me out that day. If so, it will just be a good bonding experience for the boys

On ITTBAB is there footage of actual live bugs? I think I can deal with the sensations you described, but big, huge, bug legs will totally get to me.

ITTBAB - If I remember correctly I think all the bugs are animated. I like the show, but I could do without the big spiders dropping from the ceiling and smoke at the end.

I've been "stung" every time I've been on ITTBAB and I'll tell you it's enough to keep me from going on it again. I thought I was gonna have a bruise! It was Dbf's first time on it in December and he said "I don't think we'll have to do that again."

Just throwing my two cents in - definitely let your son do both of them - he sounds like he'd love them!
I'd follow someone else's suggestion and just sit them out - you're not missing anything, and some of my favorite park moments are sitting in the shade sipping a yummy beverage!

Stitch's great escape is essentially a tamed down kids version of ExtraTERRORestrial. I would skip the attraction unless you are a really big fan of Stitch.

It's Tough to be a Bug is a great show. Disney nails every last detail of the show. This may be Dad duty but the 3D graphics are great. The bugs are all cartoon or animatronics and aren't scary at all. It was the only show I saw on my last trip there.

I thought Stitch was pretty cool. Not my favorite, but I didn't hate it. My kids (S6 and D9 at the time) loved it.

Never been to It's Tough to Be a Bug, but I don't really like bugs, so I don't see me ever going on it :)
