OK everybody- with Kath and Kamy and Alex all in WDW right now, I just couldn't help but think.......well- actually DREAM about what I want to eat when I get there! So, even though you and I can't have it now- what is the one (or two  ) things you have to have when you get there. Now, of course we will all only be dreaming these things RIGHT?!?!? Sometimes thinking about what I will let myself have there as a slim karebear, is what gets me through my days! (ALL in moderation- of course!!!) Does anyone else do this? Or am I just a sick girl!?!?!?

Are you planning on sticking to your program? In general, I'm planning on sticking to the program, but will ask my DH to buy something sweet- like a dole whip, which I haven't tried, but REALLY want to, and taking a sip or two of that- not the wholething , just a taste. That's the plan! Of course, with the way things are going for me, I'll take a sip of it and be sadly disappointed, because it wasn't all that my mind made it out to be!

LOL! You arent sick. I love going over the menus from WDW restaurants and dreaming about what I will eat when Im there.

In August Im looking forward to Beef Terryaki & sticky rice at the Kona Cafe, everything at Chef Mickeys breakfast, beavertails, dole whips, taco salad(sure its called salad) at the food court, and lots of frozen drinks!

And if you couldnt tell, my vacation is also a vacation from my diet, LOL! ;)

I also love to read all the menus.........dining is one of the best parts of a WDW vacation!!
I try to be careful.....but it is vacation and I'm going to eat goodies!
Funnel cakes, hot dogs, Ghirardelli sundae, ..........I could go on and on (but I won't eat them all ;) )

Karebear, Dole Whips are so yummy! I tried one for the first time last month and it was sooooo good. If you like pineapple you will not be disappointed! :)

I'll be at wdw next saturday and I plan to stick pretty much to eating as healthy as possible. I'm not doing any restrictive plans like Atkins so anything is open to me in moderation. I just have to be careful not to overdue it because it tastes soooooo good. LOL It will be easier for me because I will just be there for the day, if I were on vacation I'd probably have a few things that weren't so great for me. ;)

When I went a couple of weeks ago I knew where we were going to be having lunch so I did look at the menu and thought about what I would have before hand. It wasn't rabbit food, I can tell you that much! LOL

I will definitely be sticking to my plan while in Disney...I know myself too good and know that if I have "just one thing" it will lead to more and more of that one thing! It will be hard staying away from those Cinnamon Almonds though, they are my favorite!! :)

I will try my hardest to stick to my ATkins diet while at WDW for 17 days!!! BUT, I won't beat myself up nor will I deprive myself of the wonderful foods at WDW...............I will just try to be conscious of all ingredients and most of all enjoy myself..........I can always go on induction when I get back.....

Atkins makes it easy for me. I'm 100% on plan :teeth:

Why Kath!!! I'm so proud fo you!! That is a thing of beauty- sticking to your plan and not going off. I will plan to do that as well- if you can do it... so can I!

Well then why in the world is Alex eating carbs if it's easy to stay on Atkins down there???? Kath you need to straighten him right out!!!:)

Weight Watchers isn't really difficult in WDW. I've done it before. I usually eat breakfast in the room (toast, yogurt, fruit) pack lunch (granola bar, fruit, sometimes peanuts or rice cakes) and only eat out a few times. When we do eat out, I only eat 1/2 my meal and bring the other half back to the room and reheat in the micro the next night.

We go shopping at Publix while we are down there too, and we almost always pick up a rotisserie chicken which makes staying On Plan a lot easier too.

The one thing I splurge on though is dinner at Boma!!!!

I was able to stay pretty close to "on plan" at WDW. I wasn't counting points, and I had LOTS of "cheats", but I made much better choices than usual.

The concessions I made to healthy eating included:

*Starting the day with a small, sensible breakfast. I usually had a bowl of Cheerios with skim milk, and a piece of fruit or yogurt. (In years past, I would have started the day with a room service breakfast or a feast at a breakfast buffet or Kona Cafe.)

*At restaurants, I opted for lower-point options. Vegetables and salads as sides instead of creamy, cheesy stuff. Lean entrees instead of fried or rich ones. But anything I REALLY wanted, I had! (The aparagus at Le Cellier is marvelous!)

*Sensible portions. There's no reason to clean your plate. Eat the amount you need, not everything that's in front of you. You can push that plate away.

*Treats! I had them, and savored every bite. I enjoyed Dole Whips, Kaki Gori, cordials at the hotel. I enjoyed them thoroughly, slowly, and never felt deprived.

*Water. I never left the hotel without a bottle of water in hand. I drank water with every meal- even if I had another beverage, I added a glass of water.

I was certainly not 100% on program, but I was not out of control. And I actually lost a little weight that week!

Kath- I'm so proud of you! Please tell me what you're enjoying, so I have a little guidance when I'm down there in 2 weeks. I'm going to save up my carb allowance for a night of sushi at Kimonos (I like shashimi but I've got to have some rice). I'll try to talk someone into a Dole Whip that I can get just a few spoonfuls from. I won't pass up my Cobb Salad at the BD (but I'll get the dressing on the side). And I plan to do a lot of walking (in that heat, I should sweat off a few pounds).

Why do you need the dressing on the side, Karen? Is there sugar in it?

Both glo and Alex are eating what they want and it works for them. I'm more like Bean, I know myself too well, if I eat sugar or a piece of bread I will knock myself out of ketosis and start craving more and more. It's easier to eat the foods I love and not do that. I don't seem to want any sweets or bread so it isn't difficult for me :)

Karen, remember the Island Paradise sandwich at the Coral Cafe at the Dolphin? It is so good. I just order it without the bun and they give me an entire 1/2 avocado with it and strawberries instead of chips. It is so yummy.

I had a Tbone and shrimp scampi and salad and asparagus at Concourse steak house, so good.

I had the...um, can't remember the name. At Yakitori House, the skewers of beef, chicken and shrimp, no teriyaki glaze and no rice. Gave those snow peas to Ron, I don't like them that much, they made me think of our trip, though, Karen. I remember how much you love them. That was such a fun trip, wasn't it?

I love the proscuitto and fruit antipasti at Coral Cafe, too. I just ask for ranch dressing instead of orange-vinagrette. I love the ranch dressing there.

I think the only other place that I've eaten was at Denny's the day Trekker and I went shopping. I had a steak and shrimp scampi (seeing a pattern, here?). It was good too :teeth:

We had e-night tonight. I'm tired. Nighty night :)

I was just reviewing the meals I had at WDW during our trip in January. Here's one from each day, and then I'll put them in perspective afterwards:

Saturday: Artist Point: Cedar Plank Salmon, house salad, balsamic dressing, broccoli, green beans, a little bit of butter. 488 calories, 49 gm protein.

Sunday: California Grill: Seared Tuna, mushroom/green bean/snap pea medley, a little bit of butter, fruit salad for dessert. 494 calories, 55 gm protein.

Monday: Spoodles (our extravagance meal!): Hummus, baba ganoush, french bread, crispbread, veggie platter [beet greens, corn, grilled eggplant, mushrooms, onions, peppers, summer squash, tomatoes (both sun-dried and fresh grilled), and a little bit of butter. 710 calories, 27 gm protein.

Tuesday: Magic Kingdom counter service: Hamburger, french fries. 1114 calories, 54 gm protein. (See explanation, below.)

Wednesay: Jiko: Grilled bass, grits, roasted tomatoes and onions, salad with citrus vinegarette. 486 calories, 33 gm protein.

Thursday: Narcoossee: Swordfish, field greens with gorgonzola, asparagus, summer squash, blackberries and sorbet. 920 calories, 60 gm protein. [Big surprise: The sorbet put me over the top, so I surplussed that day.]

Now, only three of those six meals are respectable from a low-calorie stand-point, but each of the meals indicates something I learned in my weight management efforts.

Clearly, the meals from Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday show how you can carefully consider the choices on a menu, and then work with the chef to craft a meal that replaces a lot of empty calories with a lot of low-calorie veggies. I believe all of those meals "came with" some kind of starch, probably smothered in butter. I simply asked to have it replaced by another steamed or grilled vegetable choice. I've typically called a day ahead to ensure such arrangements are possible, but I've found that at WDW's deluxe restaurants the answer is always the same: No need to call ahead for "minor" requests like that. (Minor to THEM; major to ME; but that's a WIN-WIN situation!)

Note how those three meals are not only low in calorie, but high in protein. I did NOT go hungry, or deprive my body of necessary nutrition, to cut my calories. That's a non-starter (pardon the pun)!

Now, the hamburger was clearly NOT a low-cal meal. However, that day I exercised off 973 calories -- almost that entire meal. I ended up surplussing for the day 81 calories. If I did that every day, I'd gain a pound every month and a half. On vacation, I surplussed 3 of 7 days (2 of 6 if you don't include the flight home), but deficited for the week overall, since my surplusses didn't add up to as much as my deficits did. Careful recordkeeping kept me in line, and I knew that with that tool I could "draw outside the lines" a little, and still keep myself on track.

Even though the hamburger was the highest calorie meal, it isn't clear whether it was "worse" than the great meal we had at our favorite restaurant, Spoodles. While that meal was a bit lower in calories, it had a lot less protein. Many of the calories came from the fat in the dips, and from the empty calories of the breads. By the same token, the fats, at least, were all good fats, and the meal had the equivalent of six or seven veggie portions (using my weight-loss program's much larger portion sizing; 1 cup fresh == 1 serving). So even where we "drew outside the lines" we tried to keep an eye on nutrition.
