These are my two favorite book series so I was hoping based on this that someone here could recommend another. I know they are both so different but that might leave a lot of room in between. So any thoughts?

Lori Avocato has a funny series that is very similar to the Stephanie plum books. I think the heroine is Pauline Sokal.

Thanks I will look it up later at the library.

I've read (and loved) the Plum series. I'm not familiar with the other.

If you're lookinf for a series, have you read the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith? They're nothing like the Plum books, but they're light, entertaining, and the character development is wonderful.

I have been reading Stephanie Bond's "Body Mover" series. They are light and always have a mystery involved.

The Sophie Green series by ... have to go look it up...... Kate Johnson. I actually just started reading these and I'm really enjoying it. Youngish girl working as a gate agent in a London Airport is recruited by a Secret Service Agency. Chaos and Intrigue ensue. She's a pretty funny writer though so it works.

No Such Thing as Series.... Shelly Fredman. I think she's working on book #4 now. I'm not sure she'll be available at a library, I think she might publish independently. Heavily borrows from the Plum series .. 2 competing love interests, tastycakes, etc. But this author also addresses some of the complaints many have about the Plum series in regards to the characters never seem to develop.

As previously mentioned, the Body Movers Series is good.

OTOH, I'm really disappointed in the Plum series the past couple of years. Fifteen isn't as bad as Fourteen but still nowhere as good as what she used to write.

I am not familiar with the Dark Hunter books, but I am a HUGE fan of the Stephanie Plum series. A series I really enjoy that is similiar to the Stephanie Plum is the Spellman Series by Lisa Lutz. The first book is called the Spellman Files I think.

I really like the Sue Grafton series. It starts with A is for Alibi and she is up to T. U is to come out in December.

I looked them up last night and they look wonderful and the reviews by readers are all great. Thanks for the recommendation.

Who authors the Dark Hunter series?

Sherrilyn Kenyon is the author. Their nothing like the Plum books. They are more vampire fantasy. But I just love them and Kenyon's writing is wonderful. Very imaginative.

If you want funny and vampires all rolled up into one, check out:

Charlaine Harris - Sookie Stackhouse series (these are the books the HBO series True Blood is based on - I've never seen an episode as I don't have HBO but the books are great)

MaryJanice Davidson - Queen Betsy series (I'm on book 6 of this series and they are hysterical!)

ETA: Oh, and if you enjoy laugh-out-loud funny (non-vampire) try Carl Hiaasen. Not really a series but hysterically funny (even if he does hate Disney ;))

I adore the Betsy books! She is too funny and Eric is a dish!

I haven't read the Sookie books but my friend has and she said the books are WAY better. She was really disappointed in the show. I am so addicted to it now I am just going to wait a while before I start reading the series.

Ah, so you've already read the Betsy books. Isn't she a scream?!

I assume you've also already read Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake vampire hunter series. That is the series that got me started into the vampire genre. Well, no, I take that back. I guess it was Anne Rice first.

Also want to make sure you caught my Carl Hiaasen edit at the end of my previous post as it looks like I was editing while you were posting again.

I literally LOL when I am reading Betsy. But on book 7, or at the end of book 6, she warns you that she is taking the series in a different direction and she does. It's not as funny and a bit more serious. Still good writing, just not what you've come to love about Betsy.

Actually I read some Anne Rice that I didn't know was her's. It was written under a different pen name and it was some pretty ...umm....how do I put this....let's just say it should have had a brown paper wrapper on the cover. Yoaza!

I started reading one the Anita Blake books but couldn't get into it. I think it was too similar to the Dark hunter series. I might try it again. I haven't read Hamiliton but I will put it on my list.
I blame my best friend who got me started on the Dark hunter series. It really is my favorite. If you haven't read it, do! And be sure to read it in order. The first one is a little different from the rest but it sets up some of the characters. But each book is about a different couple, very good!

I have read the Dark Hunter series. But I read the Anita Blake series first and liked it better. Maybe it depends on which you read first.

How about Lynsay Sands' Argeneau series? I've only read the first couple of books. They're okay if you need a vampire fix. ;)

So, you never said, have you read Carl Hiaasen? Hilarious stuff with quirky characters and since you like Janet Evanovich I'd think you'd like it.

Also agree with PP who suggests Sue Grafton. Kinsey Millhone is no Stephanie Plum but still good reading.

P.S. MaryJanice Davidson does hint in book 6 that she is taking a different direction. I'm okay with that. I think. Will let you know when I finish book 6. :rolleyes1

I haven't read Carl Hiaasen. As for Anita, I did read her after the DH series and I was so sucked into that world I think it made it difficult to imagine something similar yet the same.

My friend was telling me about Christina Dodd. She writes about shape shifters and their supposed to be really good books.

As it stands right now I have about 15 books to buy. Thank goodness I have gift cards I saved from Christmas as well as a B&N card.

Leslie Meier (I just finished KIlling Bridezilla) the main character is a writer, named Jaine Austen . she takes on odd jobs and sidelines as a very basic private eye. Light, fun, good series.

I personally prefer series books.

I also read Diane Mott Davidson, and Joanne Fluke

I'm a huge Kenyon fan, have read all the books, as well as the series she's written under her pen name (Kinley MacGregor) similar series:

Vampires--J.R.Ward' s Black Dagger brotherhood (1st is Dark Lover)
Lynn Viehl--1st is "When Angels Burn" (or something to that effect)
Janiene Frost--1st is "Halfway to the Grave"
Katie McAlister's vamp series
Shapechangers-- Rachel Vincent--1st is "Stray"
Humor/Fantasy--the Aisling Gray series by Katie McAlister
Karen Marie Moning fairy series or Fever series
Michelle Rowen
Stephanie Rowe
G.A Aiken--these are about dragons and are really funny

sorry, I'm a HUGE roomance fan and I work in a bookstore!

You might like the In Death Series with Eve Dallas by JD Robb aka Nora Roberts. Not neccessarily as light as Stephanie Plum, but quick moving stories and hot rich guys. And Eve is wicked smart, my ultimate favorite heroine.
