Staying at AKL for the first time!

We love AKL. We stayed there in Oct 2004 and are going back in May (May 16-26). The transportation is great because you don't have to share buses with other resorts. I love Boma!!!

We'll be there the same time as you.

This will be our first AKL stay also. Purely by happenstance, a mistake made by grand gathering cm. Were registered at CSR 3 rms, somehow one got gone.... oh dear, no prob CM fixed us up w 3 rms (11 in party) at AKL for less. Standard rm, so hoping for more magic and maybe (don't want to be greedy) an upgrade to a savannah rm.
Ate at Boma's last 2 years so loved the atmosphere.
Plan on having a super stay. Feelin the love, playing dis on live365.

Don't want to make it sound like there was a bad CM, part of the fault was just explaining to me that all 3 families had to verify ressie. didn't know that and one in party called after the 2 week period. Love the CM's, esp Conan my man.

Just one quick question (we also got the standard rate of $139), is there a power outlet between the beds that is accessible? Our daughter is going back on CPAP, and we need the power for that.
Kim ( doing the AKL dance) :cool1:

I haven't stayed there yet but the resort pictures show a nightstand and lamp in between the beds, so I would guess that there would have to be an outlet there? Try calling Disney about it at 1-800-828-0228 to ask about it. They are very good with dealing with medical conditions of any sort and can make sure that you have the outlet access you will need.

Glad that you were able to get the great rate!! I saw this am that you were having some trouble, glad it all worked out!! Have a super time!! :goodvibes

DH and I will be there May 19-22 for our 10yr anniversary  . We made a quick visit to AKL one night last December just to check it out. I fell in love with it and was bound and determined to stay there. Well the in-laws gave us miles for our plane tix so that sealed the deal. Another savings with the AP code makes it a bit easier too (that was fun this morning, NOT :sad2: ). DH though insisted on a Savanah View since it is a special occasion, didn't take too much arm twisting.

Now the only problem is trying to fit in all the 'adult' things we want to do during this trip without the kids. So many restaurants to try but only so many meals!

Anyone with a suggestions on which trail or room area to request?

We requested a room on the Zebra trail. We had a room on the Zebra trail last time and loved it. It was close to the pool, Mara, laundry room...etc.

Two complaints, actually more mild annoyances than anything.

You would not believe the length of the walk from the lobby to our room....wow...you better not be sat at the bus stop and then remember you've left something you need in your room...that was a real safari trek in itself..My room was on the Zebra trail at the far end, but it was a fantastic deluxe Savannah room...so I coped!

It sure took a long time to do the laundry. I got sucked into some time vortex and lost a whole evening in there one night. It wasn't the wash so uch as the dry, you needed to give it 3 goes for a completely dry wash....However on the bright side it had a nice area to sit and wait, and I met a very nice lady who I chatted to happily during my time there!

So I'm either very easy to please (which my husband would NOT agree with) or it really is a great resort. I would go back again. I'm lucky to be able to try lots od different resorts, I haven't hated any so far! I can see the trek to the room could be a real issue for some people.

Thanks ReggieB. :) I do want to hear negative experiences as well.

I don't think the walk will bother us too much wherever we are, but that's good to know about laundry. We like to pack very light so we can just take carry-on luggage and we may need to use the machines. I'll definately keep this in mind.

Dolphin Girl - thanks for the input.

Reggie B - thanks to you too. The long walk wouldn't be a problem since it is just DH and I, if the kids were with us that would be another matter. Since we are only going for the weekend I doubt we'd need to do any laundry on this trip but you never know in the future.

I always swore I'd never do laundry on vacation, but IMHO, it's sometimes worth being able to pack extra light. We bring enough clothes for the time we're going, but you never know when you are going to spill something on your most comfy jeans, or have your sneakers get drenched on Splash Mountain, or be soaked to the bone in a rainstorm and want to wash your clothes. :)

Our room was close to the elevator so the walk wasn't that bad. I agree with what you said about the dryers though. :)

I think the dryers are like that at most resorts. I was lucky enough with the ones in our building at GF resort were right next to the pool bar and those yummy frozen margaritas, laundry was a joy with one of those on the go....not that I'm encouraging drinking and drying.....ho ho ho :rotfl:

Hi.

One thing that I would like to suggest to you, is to do the Culinary Tour. The time is on the daily board by bell services, but when we were there it was at 3:45pm. It is a free tour which takes you to JIKO and BOMA with a stop at Victoria Falls. The CM explains HOW and WHY they designed things the way they did, what types of food they serve and WHY and the best thing is.... you get samples! Yay!

In JIKO, you get to talk to the CHEF, and have the TASTE OF AFRICA all to yourselves. This is breads and dips that are very, very yummy! Then on to Victoria Falls where you learn about Amarula but don't get a taste. :badpc: Then onto BOMA where a CHEF explains all the dishes, where & why and then you get to sample a SOUP and the ever famous ZEBRA DOME! :cheer2:

So, there... free... takes about 45 minutes and you get good, good food!

There's my hint. I love that place! AKL rocks! :wizard:

THank you!

For some reason, this never popped up in my subscribed threads again with a new post after the last time I posted. :confused3 I just saw your post on the CB. This tour sounds great. :) We will definately do this. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it....
