Staying at a value resort, how do you deal with all the noise?

We stayed at ASMu in early September and we did not have any trouble with noise. It was actually the quietest place we've ever slept.

I live about 35 feet from a busy railroad track (I live on Railroad St lol). The noise at hotels on-site and off never bother me or my kids. i guess it's just what you're used too. Ear plugs are the smallest thing to pack vs a machine. I'd go with earplugs!

I got my noise machine from Linens and Things...as I said, never travel without it. Even have a spare!!
I do appreciate the other tips from posters. The rolled up towel is a good one. I hadn't thought about the noise from the connecting door!

Agree. I've seen some threads which OP complained about noise at deluxe and Moderate. So this is nothing about "Value resorts" This problem is happening everywhere.

I agree. Having stayed at a Value resort only once and over a decade ago, I don't have a lot of experience with value resorts. However, we stay at our two favorites, either the Poly or the AKL, every time and I'm always awakened by late night Pleasure Island goers coming home after a night out or extra early risers checking out and heading home. Fortunately, I have no problem going right back to sleep.

The problem isn't a value problem, or any level Disney resort problem, for that matter. It's simply a hotel problem. I travel pretty extensively for a living and spend more time in hotels than I'd like to admit. Regardless of the price level of the accomodations, there is always ambient noise coming from the halls/common areas as other guests come and go. I think so many DISers complain about it is because as a rule, most people just don't spend all that much time in hotels. They only stay when they go on vacation, maybe a week or two at most in an entire year, and aren't used to dealing with people surrounding you in a resort atmosphere, which is very different that noise levels even in an apartment complex. When you spend two weeks a month in a hotel room, you get used to dealing with the noise pretty quick. Your only recourse to deal with an unusually rude guest camped outside your door is to call management. For all other noise, if you aren't used to sleeping with a noise machine or the TV on all night, you unfortunately have to grin and bear it.

As far as the noise level at value vs moderates, I'll say this:
I have stayed at both on more than one occasion.
I never remember staying at a mod where we had issues with noise from the adjoining rooms.
I have never stayed at a value where we DIDN'T have issues with noise from the adjoining rooms (when they were occupied)--it has happened every time.
It's not a jab at values or a declaration that it is ALWAYS that way and the noise only comes from the value guests. I don't know the rhyme or reason--smaller rooms, ruder neighbors, thinner walls...I don't have a clue. That is just the way it was. Take it for what it's worth.
In general, I find moderates to be quieter overall than values. I attribute it to the fact that church groups, choirs, bands etc always tend to stay at the values so you have groups of naturally louder teenage kids.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I understand that at all resorts you will have noise from guests coming and going. The is part of staying at any hotel. In the past my problem was the loud noise from the turbo toilets. Hopefully between shutting the bathroom door, and a white noise machine, I can sleep a little better! I don't think the values are neccesarily more noisy, we actually had worse problems at POFQ, one of the supposed quiet resorts and at OKW (buses coming in and out of each loop was so loud, all night, and we had a woods facing balcony). Room location is giong to depend alot on the noise, the more heavily traveled areas the more noise you will have. We were in one of the furtherest TS buildins on the corner last time at ASMo and didn't have any problems at Pop we were on 4th floor facing bowling pin pool. We are used to sleeping w/ a fan on, so we turned the bathroom fan on to the max timer (maybe 45 min) and closed the door so thier was a soft hum till we fell asleep and then of course it cut off. Worked for us, but if you need noise to block it out all night might want to consider an alarm w/ noise options or something small u can stow in your bag.

I stayed 2 years ago, and never noticed any noise. In fact, at one point I wondered if we were the only ones there I have taken foam earplugs with me on a trip several years ago, because the lady I was rooming with said she snored awful..they work

We were at All Star Sports last week and noise wasn't a problem, but we were away from the pool area, back in the 5's so maybe that had something to do with it. In the morning, when I was in the shower, I did hear another shower running but it wouldn't have woken me up. I didn't hear any loud voices, etc from any of the rooms.
