We are going to be staying at the as sports next week. Last year we stayed at the asmo, and I had a hard time sleeping due to flushing toilets and running showers. Any suggestions to help deal with the noise factor? I am a light sleeper and sleep with a fan on at home. No way I can bring the fan with me!!! Any suggestions????

I carry my white noise machine with me wherever I travel! Works for me...and by the way, I hate hearing this about the values, because I'm booked in one for Jan. First time stay, and you're not encouraging me!!!

I'll be forever grateful for the noise! In '97, when we stayed at ASMu (during Pop Warner time, no less), the noise bothered my DH so much that he demanded we join DVC right away! :lmao:

Thank you, ASMu, and thank you Pop Warner! :thumbsup2

What is a white noise machine and where can you get one? I love the value resorts, except for the noise. They really are not bad for the money!

We stayed at ASMo a couple of years ago and we didn't notice any noise.

We have stayed at the value resorts a few times and really haven't had any problems with the noise.... if it really bothers you maybe try putting the tv on a music station on very low volume...

The only time we had noise was at ASMo when we had a ground floor room- lots of people walking by outside dragging luggage! Now I request upper floors, and never have noise. (Knock on wood! ;) Now watch this time I'll be next to a screaming baby or something!)

Keep your bathroom door closed. Bring a small fan or white noise machine. I've never noticed more noise at the values than any other Disney resorts. It really depends on the people around you IMHO.

I must be a heavy sleeper. I've stayed at the Value Resorts 10 times and I've never had a hard time sleeping.

We're driving in so we have the option to bring a small table fan. These are great for producing "white noise". Aren't there clock radio/alarm clocks in the room? If so, you can tune it off a station to soft static at bed time. This will be a constant hum and soften any flushing, knocking etc.

Tink415, I didn't see your post. I didn't see that you already covered those ideas. Closing the bathroom door is a good idea too!

We stayed at Sports in Hoops (Bldg #3 I think). We were towards the back of the building and it was very quiet. I don't remember hearing a thing. But I have read on these boards that keeping your bathroom door closed will help with the plumbing noises from other rooms.

We do two things when staying at a value.
  1. Close the bathroom door when not in use.
  2. Leave the TV on at a medium level during the night.

This usually cancels out any extra noise from other people but it doesn't bother us much. We love doing values as it allows us 2x trips to Disney! :thumbsup2

We use a noise machine at home and when away. It will simulate various sounds such as rain, ocean tide, chirping crickets. Natural sounds that will drown out noise from outside the room. We bought ours at Macy's. I have also seen them at Bed Bath and Beyond.

I am usually too tired when I return from the parks for it to bother me, that being said, we are doing our first Pop trip next Feb... so we shall see.

We stayed at ASMo in 06 and Pop this year and didn't notice much noise at all. At ASMo, we had a ground floor room and it was still quiet. This past Aug/Sep, we stayed right by the computer pool and still had little noise, even though the pool always had people in it. What may have helped us was the fact that we spent very little time in the room. And we were so tired upon returning to the room that we went to sleep immediately and slept more soundly because of the energy burned during the day. So, my advice is to go all out during the day and maybe you'll get a better nights sleep. And :faint: sleep with the tv on.

funny thing: I have read posts where people staying at the deluxes and complain about noise- so I don't think it is just a value thing- it happens at any resort. I have stayed at AS Sports many times and never had any problem with noise whatsoever.

I read a suggestion on a different thread which said that
if you have a connecting door in the room, roll up a towel
and put it at the base of the door to block any noise from
your neighbors.
Also the one about keeping the Bathroom door closed.

We, too, were bothered by the toilet flushing noise at AS Sports. It was very noticeable. Not sure what the answer is, other than sleep with earplugs.
