Hi All. I am not oficially one of you (yet). I've been watching your forum, Ijust sent for the dvd, but we think we are going to do it. My question is, how long does the whole process take from start(receiving an application, i guess) to finish(relaxing by the pool at your DVC resort)? It's to late for our August trip, but we're thinking ahead to next year. Thanks guys.

Unless you have some sort of non-refundable deposit, it's probably not too late for your August trip.

Your question is complicated a bit by the fact that DVC is currently selling units at Saratoga Springs that are still under construction. If you agree to buy now you could make a reservation immediately, but the stay will probably have to begin sometime July or later.

By comparison, in the days when DVC had buildings open and points ready to sell, there were instances where people took the tour during a trip, signed all of the paperwork, and literally moved their stuff to a DVC resort for the remaining days of THAT vacation.

I put down my deposit on February 22nd, and the deed was recorded on March 23rd. But I bought points at the BWV through Disney. Now for SSR, you can't actually use the points until your unit is available, but you can make reservations at any DVC resort for that date. You may have to "advance points" if your use year hasn't started at the date of the stay but, you can call and make reservations like the same day that you put down the deposit....I hope all of this is right, because I didn't buy SSR, but from what I have read, that is how it works.

I think we are assuming you are going to buy SSR direct from Disney. Is that right? If not, the answers will be different.

Well, I definitely planned on going direct through Disney so I guess SSR is my only option, right? How is it for kids ,BTW. Dosen't look like as much fun as POP. But they're not paying so they'll stay where we say they'll stay(LOL).

So assuming SSR is my only option, can I go ahead with that, close by August but make a reservation at another resort if my SSR unit isn't ready. Do you think it's worth delaying our trip? I f we are gonna do this, and I'm almost positive we are, I can't see putting out 5,000 for this trip then coming back and joining. We would either delay the trip until we could stay at SSR or wait until the end of the year to join.

SSR is wonderfully themed and IS a "great" place!!

Buying through Disney is a very quick "hassle free" event. Be sure to mention to your guide that you are looking to vacation in the 3rd, 4th quarter of this year. The incentive is also decent..$8. off per point, no mtc fee till 06..

BTW.....Rumors this winter..have been saying that prices will rise again.. :scared:
I am looking to add on at my home resort, so I am paying much attention to the next price hike.

I spoke to my guide today (to check my wait list status :faint: ) and was told that SSR prices will go up on 6/19!! It apparently was made known today!!

So....guess we have a new rumor :confused3

Best of Luck !!!

NO! SSR is not your only option buying direct from Disney. You can buy anywhere they have points to sell, as Tammy above did.

For a new contract, you will have to buy a minimum of 150 points @ $89 per point with no incentives (But I believe you can use Disney financing - not sure on that one). You may also be able to pick your "use year," or you can tell them you don't care. You will have a lot easier time getting points if use year is not important to you. Bear in mind that contracts in resorts other than SSR end in 2042, so they are 37 years, rather than 49 at SSR.

Depending on where you buy, you may wait forever for points or you may get them almost instantly. I'll look up the add-on thread and post the link so you can take a look. Some have gotten their points in 3-4 days, others have been waiting for a year for BCV with a specific use year.

You can also buy resale. Resale properties are listed on the link at the top of this page and there are also other resellers beside The Timeshare Store.

With resale, you have to pay cash or provide your own financing (a lot of people use home equity lines), and you pay closing costs which range from a minimum of about $350 up to about 3% of the sale price. Depending on how large a contract you buy and at which resort, you will save anywhere from just a little to a whole bunch.

The resale process is long, a little complicated (although not as complicated as DVC itself), pretty frustrating at times, and a pain in the butt all the time. However, you may save some money. Figure 8-12 weeks, start to making reservations with resale.

Thanks all for your help. I'm still somewhat confused, but I'm learning

Although, SSR has what I call a "formal" theme to it, my kids loved it. You can tell your kids that the pool slide is much better (pop doesn't have one), and there is a very nice little playground area by the quiet pool in Congress Park. They also have a community hall with kids activities during the week. Best of luck in your decision. We own at VWL but loved SSR. If you need Disney financing I wouldn't hesitate to buy SSR. It's quick and painless, and you could probably get those August reservations somewhere if you let your guide know and get your paperwork filled out quickly.

If you are confused, that is the first sign of starting to understand! Enjoy the quest and keep asking questions. You'll find a lot of help here.

We added on at SSR which is different from your situation (we already own at BCV.) Talked to my guide last Thursday, told him we wanted to buy at SSR, gave him my credit card # for the deposit, got the papers to sign yesterday, I made a reservation for July today. :teeth:
Of course, we've already paid off one note with Disney, they already debit my bank account for our annual dues, they know us financially. But, if I recall correctly, it took about 3 days to have our financing approved the first time. You will have to arrange your own financing for a resale and sit out ROFR.
BTW, my DD-almost 11, is really looking forward to the theming at SSR - horses. :lovestruc She also wants to play in the Donald play area.
