Star Wars Tales Of The Arcolyte

I mean, after the finale, I can't blame them. I would have liked to have seen more, but only to salvage the incomplete narrative. They would have to have made some major changes too, likely including a new showrunner. Maybe we can still see Darth Manny somehwere, who is really the only character who warrants follow-up anyway.

I feel this is more a cost cutting move. It wasn’t generating enough interest to justify the high cost. Same with Book of Boba Fett.

I mean, that's always the trick with sci-fi shows - they cost too much! They have to do better to even get renewed, although is it really "cancelled" if they weren't intending to do season 2 anyway. Boba Fett wasn't cancelled either, though I think they might have wanted to pick up on threads in Mando, etc. Of course, since a season 2 wasn't a given, the runners on Acolyte should have made more of an effort to wrap it up. It's hardly teh only show to ever be guilty of that, bu tit is annoying!

sure would like to see more of Manny Jacinto as the Stranger, more of that storyline, but that’s mostly all. Wish the could do a made for tv movie or something just for that/ him. Even if it’s just his backstory. He was wonderful in the role, and that character was very intriguing.

On another topic, I wish they’d announced something for SW animation . Not sure what or if there’s much planned .

It was really disappointing that they didn’t announce anything new at D23….at the Lucasfilm Animation panel. I really wonder if Andor S2 and Skeleton Crew are it for Disney+ shows going forward.

Shocked, absolutely shocked I tell you.

Anyone remember when I predicted all of this a year ago? Yeah……:: that was fun. (In my best Chris Farley voice)

Maybe some fabulous news will come out of Celebration Japan ….maybe saving some announcements for that. Hopefully!

They should stick with the animation on D+ honestly. Even the hits like Mando - it should probably end with the movie. It can't go on forever, nor should it.

Can’t believe I am saying this, but I completely agree with you Brian.

Star Wars will never be significant again in pop culture if you constantly make mediocre live action series on Disney+.

Oh, your idea that Star Wars is somehow no longer "significant" is pretty far fetched. The idea that every single Star Wars project must be an absolutel mega-hit by virtue of it being Star Wars is also ridiculous. The fact is that to expand the franchise, they have to try stuff - it's not all going to work. Most of the issue I think has to do with Disney+/streaming in general - lots of shows are affected by this. How many one-and-done's has Netflix made - like a thousand! It's the nature of the beast - though I do think they should probably stop feeding that beast.

That said, I asm till looking forward to Skeleton Crew - it looks like exactly what I personalyl want Star Wars to be - basically a cartoon!

SW is not significant at all in pop culture right now, and no amount of hang ringing on your part will make it so. Part of the reason is it has been mediocre as of late. The last thing that really pegged the scale for super fans and normies alike was the Mando season 2 finale. I agree that everything can’t be that, but it can be a heck of a lot better than the Acolyte!

This was yet another bad decision by Lucasfilm leadership imho.

Oh, please. Star Wars is plenty significant - maybe not the new stuff, but the franchise overall. Go into any store and find a Star Wars t-shirt - yeah, they have them.

This article seems to posit that only the OT and Andor are any good anyway - which is a point of view but goes way deeper than just the recent stuff. Were the prequels mediocre? Were they flat-out bad? Nah - the fact is they are the MOST Star Wars of all, and things that channel them have a better bead on the franchise.

I can agree that a lot of these shows probably should have been movies - but that is true of many streaming shows in general. They make these "long movies" and ingore the episodic nature. If you are going to do that they need to drop them all at once, but I'd rather they just edit it down to two hours. I mean, I loved Obi-Wan, but it could have been a movie for sure.

While the Acolyte ultimately didn't work for me, I like what Lucasfilm was trying to do with telling an original story and taking some risks. Risks don't always pay off and the current structure at Disney is making risk taking less and less of a feasible option. I think Skeleton Crew is the last original story we're getting for a while and that's a shame.

I'm so tired of everything be a derivative of the OT. Everything doesn't have to have member berries to be good content. It's my larger issue with Disney and their need to only do sequels and prequels now because they are so risk averse. At some point, you need new content to become the next beloved content that propels the franchise into the future. The problem is Disney wants hits and if shows don't immediately pay off, they get axed. And for all the love Filoni gets, not everything he does is perfect (Ahsoka, season 3 of Mando).

I agree with you, but audiences have shown time and time again that they don't want risks. Original films flop and sequels/prequels/remakes do well. What is Disney supposed to do? It's not their fault - it's ours!

Make good stuff and people will come, and having beloved characters present also seems to help. I agree this is tough for taking risk in this environment, but it is what it is. Deadpool is doing great, because they gave the audience what they wanted……so why not just do that? Take your risk on small lower budget things and make your bank on your popular characters. Why can’t they do both?

So, did this show have a real ending? I'm considering watching it soon (I slowly get through my streaming list), but if it's a mystery never fully solved b/c they wanted season 2, I'm gonna pass...
