Star Wars Tales Of The Arcolyte

I don’t think the story for Deadpool and Wolverine was bad at all. Wade’s timeline and all that he loves is in jeopardy and he wants to save his loved ones. That’s perfectly acceptable as a plot to me. We don’t have to have a Thanos level event and the end of all humanity as we know it in every Marvel Movie. It was well done and it will make a lot of money……seems like a win-win to me for fans and the studio.

I don't understand why they don't do a Knights of the Old Republic/Sith Wars/Jedi-Sith Wars series. It would print money with both the hardcore fans and the casuals. Could you imagine a trailer with a bunch of Jedi and Sith going at it??? Everyone would flock to the theaters.

Oh, but you know if they did that, fans would be all like, "Why did they chnge this? I can't believe they did that! They changed the color of Darth Revan's mask and destroyed my childhood!"

I disagree. You can change some things and some things you cannot. You simply cannot make Luke a bum, that didn’t work.

When they bring Tony Stark back (and they will at some point), if they made him a bum that abandoned all his friends…….that would get rejected too.

Luke was not a bum - he was a mindful Jedi doing what Jedi do. Yoda was such a bum, right? 🙄

Or even worse, they make Revan a woman - even thought many people (myself included) played the game with a female Revan and that's their head canon. :P

They should do that too - we've never really seen a true, female Sith Lord on screen!

But, yeah, some of the, *ahem*, fans would FREAK OUT!

Yoda and Luke are not the same. Completely different Jedi’s. Luke is hope and optimism to a fault. That’s his thing.

You cannot come to terms with a huge swath of the fandom that completely rejects the grumpy old man Rian Johnson version of Luke. I get that you don’t agree, and think everyone should have been ok with it. We weren’t though. You can’t make me like what I don’t anymore than I can make you accept that Tom Cruise is a juggernaut of a movie star beloved by many.

Shawn Levy wants to do something set in the early era of Star Wars. Let's do that. No winks. No fan service. Just a fresh, new story.

I agree, that’s a good plan. Make it real and look and feel like real Star Wars. No fan service or hidden agendas or any crap like that……just tell a great story with great characters.

I still say this needs to come after a legit massive hit that pulls back in the legacy fan base though. You have to rebuild the good will of the fandom first imho.

Was he really though? He wasn't always optimistic in the OT. "I shouldn't have come. I'm endangering the mission!" He was always full of self-doubt - it's kind of his thing. And that's the deal - I don't begrudge anybody their emotional reaction to something, but every time someone has tried to explain why to me, it falls apart. It's like they watched a completely different OT than I did. It's weird how they see luke as this paragon, when he is actually very flawed. It's good that he's flawed too - most paragons are kinda boring (there might be a couple of notable exceptions though).

I do accept that Tom Cruise is a huge star that many love and still a box office draw. All I have ever said is that I don't care for him. That's all. I don't deny reality. I might kind of wonder why people like him so much considering, but I don't really spend a lot of time worrying about it.

They're supposed to do a Dawn of the Jedi movie with James Mangold directing, but I fear that's on the chopping block, both due to The Acolyte and Dial of Destiny. Which is a bummer, because Mangold has done good stuff before.

But honestly, if I was a director/writer, I wouldn't want anything to do with Star Wars right now. Too much studio meddling and you have to deal with awful fans.

Honestly, a story I'd love to see adapted is the original Tales of the Jedi comics with Nomi Sunrider and Ulic Qel-Droma. It's so far removed from the Skywalker saga that you can explain the differences in the Jedi Order and there being multiple Sith.

Brian,

It falls apart in your opinion, not in a huge swath of the fandom’s opinion.

Luke is a dreamer a farm boy who saves the world. Hopes and dreams is what Luke is, and will always be. Yes he was flawed like all great cinematic heroes have flaws. Part of the reason so many rejected Rey was she was too perfect too great at everything with so few flaws or weaknesses.

I also don’t believe it when you say no matter what people would have rejected the ST. If you had made Blade a bum who abandons his fight against evil in the recent Deadpool movie it would not have been well received. They didn’t do that though because they understood the character of Blade. The same goes for Luke. People know who Master Jedi Luke Skywalker is, well almost everyone except Rian Johnson it seems.

Rian was put in a tough spot, I completely admit that. I understand you simply cannot allow Luke to dominate the film and Disney needed their new characters to shine through. I still believe there was a way to both, instead of ripping the fan base in half like they did. You and I probably will never agree on this but I just will never accept how Luke was portrayed in the ST. I will never watch the ST again, and any SW movie marathon in my house will exclude the ST.

Rogue One was great and I can even enjoy parts of Solo…….but the ST is simply 100% rejected.

Nancy I agree that doing a SW movie is probably not high on many director / writers list. They have watched a pretty good director in Rian Johnson fail to pull it off and take a ton of fan backlash and that probably scares off many of them. I simply maintain that Johnson is as a bad choice who was too cocky and didn’t understand SW well enough.

They need a nostalgia based hit, and then go to a whole new timeline like you suggested imho. That’s a viable path forward for Star Wars.

The two things the ST did that are completely unforgivable to me are:
- Failed to reunite the big three (Leia, Han, and Luke) for one 10 second clip
- Deconstructing Luke Skywalker

I personally believe if you did those two things right, you would have less than half of the backlash to the ST that we have experienced.

I was still considering getting a few Black Series figures from Acolyte. At least Sol, even though it wasn't the best looking figure, I still wanted that character. I REALLY wanted a figure for The Stranger, but none released...they didn't make/release any, and probably won't now, which sucks. I wanted that one!

The tax write off may provide more than the show could financially.

If that happens it will be bonkers:
- Willow
- SW Star Cruiser
- The Acolyte

All scrapped and written off as a tax write off.

Tell me again that Lucasfilm has not had a really rough patch?

And that’s a way to kill interest in your franchise even faster. I’m really ready for Iger to go. His time has come and gone.
