Star Wars Land Question

My son will graduate high school in 2017 and has chosen WDW as a senior trip based almost solely on his love for Star Wars. I am concerned that there won't be that much of the new land completed by then. I wonder if a DisneyLand trip might be better. I don't know much about the timeline for either of these planned expansions, so I am looking for any information or advice that might be helpful.

I just read an article that said Disneyland's Star Wars Land is scheduled to open January 2019.

Neither park will have a significant Star Wars presence at that time. Disneyland will complete it's Star Wars Land first, but not until 2019 like the PP said. They both still have Star Tours. It seems like Launch Bay could stay for a while at WDW, but I think the one at DLR will probably go sooner. I think they are going to do the Star Wars fireworks at WDW for a while, but not I am not sure if it will continue past this summer. Rumors say that Pizza Planet might become a Star Wars themed restaurant, but those are merely rumors and who knows when it will be done.

They have started NOTHING at Hollywood studios. Considering how long Avatar is taking an Animal Kingdom, I think a minimum of two years sounds about right. 2019 is probably a good target.

It never fails to surprise me that people are actually surprised that they have started nothing (not saying you are, but many have been) at HS, when they specifically said that construction wouldn't start until January 2016. And even just common sense would tell a person that they're not going to start putting up walls or anything at HS until the Holiday season is over and decorations are down, which would be in the New Year.

I see there is a new sheriff in town. :car:

Thanks for your help. I had no idea it would take that long. Maybe a college graduation trip will make more sense.

Well lets be honest....at the rate Disney builds things maybe it will be ready for your son's kids high school graduation. ;)

Kind of hard to start it when a good part of it will be on the Streets of America, where thousands are each night seeing Osborne Lights.

I don't know if that is true, have a lot parking structures included with the plan. Also they have been closing areas (studio backlot tour), building new theaters, and moving things around in preparation.

I think neoavatara's point is that Pandora was leaked in 2010, announced in 2011 and won't open until 2017 (we hope). And without even the demolition started yet in DHS, it will easily spill over to 2019. That would be a swift pace compared to the mine train timeline.

- Disney has not announced where this will be located other than DHS.
- All speculation of what is leaving and where it will be located is by armchair imagineers.
- There are lots of options that can happen, we'll know where - when it happens.
- A 14 acre "EXPANSION" would imply outside existing park walls, if inside it's not an expansion.
- Permits filed outside park that imply new entrance off Victory, new parking areas and room for expansion.
- Haven't seen any permits filed for start of construction.
- Pizza Planet closing for long refurb, theme unknown - Star Wars, Muppets, Frozen
- When walls start going up, we will have more an idea what might be changing.
- But we still won't have any idea the finishing dates, only a follow along with the permit dates.

And on that last one, Disney just filed more permits for Avatarland ending December 31, 2018. :rotfl2:
