Okay, please switch me from the 10K to the Rebel Challenge, along with my DH. After I did the Disney Half, he was inspired to start running, and we both signed up to do the challenge through the American Association for Cancer Research. Guess I will defer my 10K bib to next year and decide next year what to do instead of just losing it this year. Sucks some one else can't use it. I am excited to fundraise because we usually fundraise for the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life. I am an 8 year cancer survivor and love to feel like I am helping fight back against cancer. So this year we are going to fundraise for the AACR and do the races together!

Question: So how does corral placement work for the 10k? I don't remember there being a place to submit a time for a corral, so how do they place you?

Yesterday was day 1 for the beginner Jeff Galloway's plan!! Started it and I can't believe I am actually going to be running! I don't know why I got myself mixed up in all this! I have never ran a race in my life and I signed up for the half marathon:confused3

If it helps I have exactly one 10k under my belt. And I did that two weeks before having abdominal surgery. So, yeah, I am with you! Trust the training and stick with the plan and you will be good. At least that's what I keep telling myself!

Congrats on upgrading to RC for a charity! W/ the challenge 10k, what they'll do is go off the time you submitted for the 1/2. If you gave them a 1/2 time, they'll extrapolate it down and if you gave a 10k they'll calculate the time up based on race calculators.

You'll do great! The race mileage is always daunting at the beginning of training, b/c your starting at low miles. But once you get towards the end of training the number doesn't look so big. Trust me, as long as you stick w/ training, pretty soon you'll be saying, oh I only have to run 4 or 5 miles today, yay. :goodvibes

Which race calculator is used, do you know? I submitted the same time that I did for the Dumbo (a 2:26 half with an expected 2:15 finish) but am wondering if I managed to pull out a sub 1h 10k before Oct. 10 if it would push me up a corral...

I don't know which one they use, sorry. There are 2 that I know of:

Runner's World Race Calculator

and

McMillan Running Calculator

Well, crap. I might have to do a couple of 10ks just to see where I am. Both those calculators put me at a 2:10 finish time, which, even if they added in 10 minutes for the longer distance, will still put me in front of my 2:26 half. It looks like worse case scenario it will land me exactly where my half puts me :-)

I'm still not 100% sure how they place you for the 10Ks. I'm guessing it has more to do with wether or not you've run another event before - rather than an actual time and/or pace. I would have thought there would be a place to submit it but I guess not (and it's been so long since I've registered for the 10K solo - all I can remember is signing up for the challenges where I obviously had to enter a time/pace for the Half.

:confused3 I'm clueless, sorry!

And way to go on raising money for a charity. I would love to go that route one year, but I sincerely doubt that I would ever be able to raise the money and certainly couldn't donate it all myself. Maybe someday when I have a better network around me, but for now I'll just applaud those that do.

Getting you updated on the runner list!

It started the day before my birthday! I'm kind of skimping on this first week because of birthday plans, but it shouldn't set me too far off!

while some people pick up their park tickets before the expo (runners can get discounted tix) most don't pick them up until the expo so Thurs morning is usually lighter than Thurs afternoon/evening.

Did I miss something? How do I get discounted tix at the expo?

I did this for the Disneyland Half. You pick up the tickets at the Expo in the same area as you pick up your race number and commemorators. You can order in advance or purchase them in person with no advance ordering (but they cost a few dollars more).

Note: My 5-day park hopper was not upgradable to a Annual Pass.

Can I ask when you tried to upgrade (was it this year)? I was hoping I'd be able to upgrade the ticket we're buying for DS. Its not the end of the world if we cant but it would be nice!

GetTravel states on their terms and conditions that the tickets they sell are not upgradeable. Be sure to click on the terms/conditions button, rather than just read the ones they have posted on the website. They tend to differ.

I took the ticket to a Disneyland ticket booth on day five of the pass, September 2, 2014. I hadn't read the back of the ticket, but the cast member pointed out the print that states it is a sports ticket and non-upgradable.

I'm glad I saw this. I didn't know that there were discounted tickets available to runners!

Does anyone know, if I buy a 3 day park hopper, do I have to use the 3 days consecutively? Could I even buy extra days to use on another trip?

Thanks!

They don't have to be used consecutively but they expire 13 days after first use. So unless you're planning a return trip in a week, a single park hopper won't really work for multiple trips.

Thanks!! I may get the three day since it's not that much more expensive so I can do Thurs, Fri, and Sunday post-race, even if it's only for a little bit.

Does anyone know if those discount tickets sell out? I want to wait closer to the date when I know my work schedule. Thanks!

They never sell out, but Jan 7th is the cutoff date to buy them online. If you miss the deadline, you can still buy them at the expo and still at a discounted price, it's just a little more than what you would've paid if you ordered online.
