stainless steel sink - inexpensive cleaner??

I was wondering what everyone uses to clean the rubber flaps that are in the drain over the garbage disposal. Ours look disgusting. How do yours look and how do you clean them? Sorry OP to ask this but I wasn't sure it deserved a new thread.

now you have me wondering this also.
let's see what other folks say.

Magic Eraser! And then follow it up with a rub down of vegetable oil. Shiny everytime nad less will stick to the stainless steel, especially water spots:thumbsup2

Those magic erasers really work well.

Once a week or so I like to fill mine up with water and add some bleach and let it sit for an hour or so.

But after either method, I rinse well (especially after the bleach!) and shine with Mr. Clean Antibacterial Multi-Surface. It shines really nicely.

Barkeepers friend I think its called. It's in a canister like Comet but its for Stainless steel sinks. We bought ours at Bed Bath and Beyond with a coupon, but our gropcery store started carrying it as well. Does a great job on our kitchen sink and it's under 5 bucks!

Walmart here carries it too. I love this stuff.

Rubber flappers-
If you can't clean it well, you could replace it.

Someone with basic hand tools and a little mechanical ability can do it in about an hour. Just be sure to kill the power before you do it.

This approach is also helpful if the flaps are weak and every single thing that even gets near them falls inside the disposal. I hate sticking my hand inside that thing!

My Dh who fabricates and polishes a lot of stainless metal stuff told me that the secret to not scratching the sink is to scrub in the same directions as the "grain" of the metal. At least with my sink it has tiny lines in the metal that all go in one direction. He says don't scrub in a circular pattern. This causes scratches and dullness.

Comet or barkeepers friend are fine, but the scrubbing pattern is important. HTH!

I am also a Bar Keepers Friend LOVER!! That stuff is AWESOME! Makes my tub/shower handles, sinks, and anything metal shine like new!

I use either the magic eraser or baking soda too. If I use lemons, limes or oranges/clementines for anything I freeze the leftover; whether it's just the peels, only use half of one I cut slices of the other half and I freeze them on a piece of wax paper. Once frozen I throw them in a ziplock baggie. When the disposal needs to smell a little better I throw a few pieces in. I read once that ice is good to keep the blades sharp, not sure if that's true or not but I figure using frozen citrus fruit will help the blades and make it smell better!

Oh yeah, when cleaning my stainless steel appliances I go in direction of the grain so I guess the sink would be the same way!
