Stacie's Journey for Weight Loss and the 1/2 Marathon Jan 09!

Cliff Shots...Blech!

The only ones we've found so far that are kind of tasty are the PowerGel ones. Green Apple, Vanilla and Strawberry Banana are my favs!

I have never taken one before working out though. I use the bars about an hour before heading out. I used to chomp through the PowerBars, but I'm liking the Sinckers Marathon bars lately...they are more candy bar like (I do the crunchy one with chocolate on the bottom)

So....I do a bar an hour before the workout and then I gel around 40-45 minutes into the workout and every 40-45 minutes after that.

Hope this helps!!

Oh...another cool thing is the Sport Beans made by Jelly Belly...they are really tasty!! You could sub those for the gels.

:rotfl: yuk!!! Glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't like them!

I'll have to check out this Snickers bar. Sounds yummy! Maybe some of the jelly bean things would be good too.

Thanks for the advice. I'll reports back on how this fueling issues goes on Sunday!

Stacie, GREAT job doing that run at work during your late lunch. That is what this is all about, just kicking butt and making it happen! I am really impressed with that pace. I am just really proud of you!:worship:

well done on the great run Stacie :)
I'm an American Idol fan :) so would go for that show!! ;)

Great job on getting your run in, Stacy!:thumbsup2 You are doing a great job! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Oh no!!! You had the Razz Cliffshot!!!! :crazy2: I tried that one once and it was GROSS!!!

Like Scott said...I like the PowerBar Gels....plain energy, green apple and vanilla are my personal favorites :). They aren't candy...but they sure beat the heck out of the cliff stuff IMO! I'm going to try the hammer and gu gels too...I'll give ya a review if I get around to trying them soon :).

The sport beans are very tasty....I do enjoy those. But they are a little harder to consume quickly.

Great job getting your run in miss thang! You are doing so great :).

And I said it in the Events thread...but Congrats on the Garmin. What a sweet guy you have there!

Hi, sweetie! Matt is such a sweetheart - enjoy your Garmin!

I investigated Living on Live Foods once, but it's not for me. All raw food all the time is not something I can live with. But many people have the self discipline to do it and have good results with it, or at least so I've read.

Keep going with the runs - you're doing great! SIX MORE WEEKS!!!

Have a great weekend - love ya!

Susan

Hey Stacie---sorry to be MIA for awhile...but I am trying to get back on track here.

First of all...Matt is such a good guy!! That was so nice of him to write you that note and get the Garmin...Gregg needs to take some lessons from him!

Keep it up with your training....there are always going to be days/weeks when your motivation seems like it is on vacation..believe me, I have felt like that lately, but you will get back into it. You are going to do so great at the Minnie!!!

As for gels...I use Gu gels....my favorite and only flavor I really like is Tri-berry. Gu were the only ones I have ever really been able to stomach so I stick with those! Hope you find somehting that works for you.

Hope you have a great weekend!!!

Hey girl. :goodvibes You're a trooper! I honestly don't know that I'll go for the long distance runs because I just don't think I could ingest any food or drink during a run. My stomach would absolutely revolt! I think I may just stick to a 5-6 mile run for my longs (once I get back to that level ;) ) and stick there.

Congrats on the Garmin!! Careful.....looking at the screen can definitely become addictive. :rolleyes1

Keep up the great work, and hang on to that awesome DH of yours. :thumbsup2

Yo Stacie -

Are you running tomorrow? Just sending some good running karma your way for a successful long one!!

I think I read somewhere that each mile completed on Easter Sunday = 1 Reese's Peanut Butter egg allowance....i HAVE to get my hands on those eggs....in all of their refridgerated chocolaty peanut buttery perfection....

Happy Easter!! And congrats on your new "toy" -- sounds like your man is a keeper! ;)
And, I like Scott's thought process about the miles on Easter.. LOL
Keep up the great work!!

Hey guys!!! Let's see...What did I post last... Wed run and nasty gels! :goodvibes

Ok... 2 runs to report on since Wed. Yay!

Friday...Ran 2 miles. This time I got to test my Garmin with my HR monitor. I was off work so got to run about mid-morning, which was nice. My pace was 13:50, but average HR was 175 and peaked at 188. The garmin started beeping at me that my HR was too high near the end.

Today/Sunday...My longest run yet! 5 miles!!! All of my runs are run/walks and this one I walked more than I liked, but still did pretty good running. My feet went numb...once. :sad2: Looks like that is just going to part of my runnnig thing though. My pace today was 14:43 and my average HR was 177, peadking at 187. Again...my garmin was beeping at me the last few miles and Matt actually went for the 3 min-miles and when it would beep, he would make me walk... Part of the reason I walked more than I wanted.

I've read on the other events board that if you're not hydrated enough, it could make your heart-rate high. This could be part of the issue. I also wonder if this is why I feel I need more walk breaks? :confused3 To calculate your max HR, you take 220-your age, which would put my max at 192. I think there may be a different calculation on that so I may try to find it online. Supposidly there are 5 HR Zones. 5 being the top that you don't want to spend too much time in. You want it to be in Zone 3/4. Well, for my 2 mile run, 1.6 was in Zone 5 and for my 5 mile run, 4.4 was in Zone 5.

So...this whole HR thing has me a bit concerned right now... Must do more research.

Scott...Like your Reese's theory! :goodvibes

Off to do this... :laundy:

Night all!
Stacie

Hi Stacie -

First of all, good job with your runs! 5 miles is no joke...did you think you'd be doing 5 milers back when you started this thing a few months ago? That's over half of the 15k...it's all downhill from here :)

About the HR deal...I wouldn't get too caught up in the numbers. We did extensive research into it and came out if it focused more on what our resting HR was, along with how quickly our HR would recover after running. I had my HR up to 195 when running...220-36=184...and well, you can see where that is going...LOL

Anyway...best of luck with this week's training!!

Stacie, great job getting those runs in! I think you are doing so well, you really motivate me. That garmin thing sounds very handy. I think its also great and very sweet Matt makes you walk when you beep! Hope you had a nice Easter!

P.S. OMG, am I doing the math right, you are only 28? I feel like an old lady! Thanks for posting that hr calculation. I learn something new everyday.

what happens if you keep running with a high HR???
Great runs stacie i cant believe how far you've come :)

That's over half of the 15k...it's all downhill from here :)

You know... you are right! My brain is so not working! I had just thought, well, 3 of these runs total will be the 15K! Math was definately not my strongest subject in school! :upsidedow

Hi Stacie,

Great job on those runs. My trainerwas really into the hr zone thing. Basically, you are building endurance, and not burning maximum fat when your heart rate is in a high zone. It became too much of a focus for me, so I just try to not spend more than 5 minutes at a time in my zone 5.:confused3

Take care,
Beth

Stacie, keep up the good work! You have really gotten me thinking about my heart rate and how that affects my weight loss. See, you are now my foremost authority to turn to!
