Stacie's Journey for Weight Loss and the 1/2 Marathon Jan 09!

Hey Stacie,

I am sorry to hear about your commute. I agree with Kim, see if your library has books on cd. I love to listen to books in the car.:thumbsup2

Hope the c25k goes better. You already said you were tired going into the training, so don't stress about one bad run.

Take care,
Beth

Ummmm.....where are you??? Just checking in...hope the weekend was good and the commute is kind to you tomorrow....

Have a good week..

Hello my WISH peeps!!! Sorry, I been MIA or not posting on my schedule (every day!!!). Life--ya know!

Quick update...

Packed up my office on Friday--that's why I had no time for Dis'ing... Weekend went well. Went to the movies Friday, saw "Dan in Real Life." It was cute!!! Sunday, we all went out as a family for Matt's Parent's anniversary. They are going to Disney in Feb and we going to send them and Matt's grandparents on a Wishes Cruise!!! I can't call to reserve until Saturday...WISH me luck!

Today was the first day in Cary... Not to bad. I think it will be ok...

FINALLY... I attempted C25K Week 4 again tonight -- Matt and I. I was in a much better mind frame than last week. It went well. I actually made it through both 5 min runs! Whooo Hoooo!!!!! :woohoo: I am feeling much better now that I've gotten it behind me and I know I can do it!

Gotta run...In the middle of preparing dinner and Matt's got to ebay tonight! He's putting his dad's 1948 (I think) Dodge pickup truck on there. They are trying to sell it. His dad has to have a hip replacement and they need the extra cash!

Thanks guys so much for continuing to check in on me and send me your support and kind words! I hoping to catch up on journals in the next day or so... :grouphug:

Good night!
Stacie

Hi Stacie
Glad Cary seems to be working out :)
Well done for getting the 5 min runs :) Its a great feeling when you accomplish something :)
Hope Matts sells the truck for his dads op (shame it has to be done though)
Hope life starts to calm down a little now.

Hi Stacie!!

Just checking in...sorry I've been MIA....LTO ;). Anyway...just wanted to say that I'm glad things are settling down with work and that the commute isn't too awful.

And most importantly ;)....Congrats on a successful run yesterday!!!! You are doing great...smart move to do that week over. NOTHING wrong with that :). Good luck to Matt and his ebaying.

Tell Susan we're thinking about her here!!! :goodvibes

Hey Stacie! Sorry I haven't been around. Great job on the run yesterday! Good for you for sticking with your goal! Sorry to hear about the commute. I just finished traveling 45 minutes to school everyday for the last four years and I definitly hate to drive now! I agree with everyone else, look into books on tape. The library where I work has TONS! and they go out for two weeks just like regular paper books! Keep on keepin' on!!

Hi Stacie,
Congrats on meeting your goal and doing the run! Oh life has such a way of messing with our exercise doesn't it?

Did you get to book the Wishes cruise yet?

Have a good week
Linda

Great job getting your run in! :thumbsup2 Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

How is the new office in Cary working out for you?

Hope you have a great Wednesday!:goodvibes

Hi Stacie,

COngratulations on the run. I think that 5 minutes is a milestone. WTG!

I am glad that Cary is not that horrible. Hopefully, you'll make some friends that want to walk at lunch.

Happy Halloween,
Beth

Good Sunday evening!!! Whew, I've been missing you guys! So, after a successful Week 4 / Day 1, the other two days...not so good! ugh! I tried Day 2 on Wed. I just could NOT get through that last 5 min run. I was sooo mad at myself. I just did it on Monday, why couldn't I do it Wednesday??? I normally try to do Day 3 on Friday, well, that didn't happen, so I thought, ok--Saturday...nope! Finally, this afternoon, Day 3 of Week 4 C25K. Was it as successful as Monday??? NOPE! UGH!!!!! What is up w/ this??? I only managed 2 min of the last 5 min run. I just don't get it. It seems my mortality is trumping my spirit. I guess I just haven't figured out what pain to push through and what not to. Anytime I get the least bit of pain, I feel I have to quit. I think maybe I'm tying my shoes too tight. Towards the end of the 30 min, the side of my ankle starts hurting... Oh, I did aquacise Tuesday night, but for training that's about it for now... I'm doing Week 4 again this coming week.

Good news...Walmart has Disney PJs on sale! I got some Tink and Eeyore! Very comfy!!!

Hope everyone has had a nice weekend! I'm off to catch up on your journals now!!! Whew, this new job has kept me way too busy!

Stacie

 Stacie,

Don't be too hard on yourself. There are lots of factors that could be interfering with the runs. your new job is keeping you busy. Are you getting enough rest? What was your last meal/snack before your runs? Dis you have enough carbs on boards to make it through? You said your ankle is rolling. If it keeps up, you may need to get a brace or wrap it?:confused3 Check with Amy or Scott about the ankle. They may have a suggestion.

Beth

Hi Stacie,
I feel your pain I am not doing so well right now either but I guess we must all go through it. I am at a new job too, maybe that's it.

Keep your head up it will turn around,
Linda

Hi Stacie...Don't beat yourself up and definitely don't give up on yourself either! Hang in there. We all have bad runs...sometimes many in a row...just do the best that you can and honor how you're feeling THAT day! The plan is just that..a plan...as long as you are out there moving and doing cardio you are making progress.

As for the ankle...you might want to think about icing it when you get back from runs. Don't let that get too out of control! As for the pain in general, unfortunately starting out running doesn't always feel good :(. There is that normal ache and pain from training. The thing is....the pain shouldn't last throughout the day or keep you awake at night. If that's the case it's more injury related! Just listen to your body!

Hi Stacie :)

Unfortunately, I believe running has a mind of its own. Each time out there is a bit different...sometimes those miles come easy and sometimes it's a struggle to just go the first 4 minutes. A lot has to do with what's going on in your mind, along with how much rest you got the night before, what you ate, what the weather is like, etc. The only way to keep up with it and/or combat it is to keep a good running journal so you can look for patterns and try to identify what (if anything) is happening each time that run is tougher than normal.

As far as the ankle, I'm with Amy. Ice it and if the pain goes away it's probably just your body getting used to your training plan.

Hope you have a good week!! Hang in there, you are doing great!

Thanks for the encourgement guys!!! :grouphug: I know I should do a little more stretching too... Eventhough I didn't complete the "plan" yesterday, as Amy and DH, Matt said, at least I was getting the cardio in and I felt good about that...

Today is a new day. I'm still sticking w/ Week 4. Since we're in Cary now, and it's supposed to be nice today (67 degrees and sunny) we are going to do our training just after work around a lake here. I've never been there, but I hear it's nice and has a walking/running trail around it. I think it's about 1.3 miles. I think we will walk to lunch too. It's not far, but there's a little gas station/grill just down the road. Great day to get out take a leisurely walk for lunch! (Yes, Matt and I ride together to and from work and eat lunch together too most days! Let's hope we don't kill each other!!! lol!)

As an update FYI on my job/move to Cary. The job is good, but I've been way too busy during the transition! lol! They actually want me to WORK! :scared1: Who knew? :confused3

Stacie.. (((Hugs))) Don't be so hard on yourself!! Week 4 is a B****! LOL I just finished W4D2 myself today, but man, that last 5 min run is a killer!!! LOL So i know EXACTLY how you feel!
Just keep your head up, and start again... it HAS to get easier! ;)
And thanks for the heads up on the WM pj's - i might have to check them out!

Hi Stacie,

Great job sticking with week 4!:cheer2: I'm not a runner, but I do know that each workout I do is different, even when it's the same. For example, I may do a FIRM DVD today and have a great workout and do the same DVD on Thursday and have a bad workout. There are so many different factors involved each day. The great thing is that you are sticking with the program....Keep up the good work! You CAN do it, Stacie!!!!:cheer2:

By the way, did you say 67 degrees and sunny? We're expecting 32 degrees and possible thunder snow tonight.:cold: :scared1:

Hope you have a great Tuesday!

Good Morning Y'all!

So just wanted to post quickly (yea, right, that never happnes! lol!) to let everyone know that today I weighed in. I don't think I normally write to much about my weight--mostly my training... But.. My top weight when I decided to finally get disciplined and do something about it was 206lbs. :scared1: I am a short 5'1 and 1/2... Don't forget the 1/2! :goodvibes When I decided to start journaling, I was down to about 200lbs. Now, If I were 6 feet tall, like DH, 200lbs might not be so bad, but for us short folks, there just no where for it to go! My goal has been to lose 1lb per week. The last few weeks, I've been at a plateau--LTO! I've not gained, but I've not lost either. I had written before that since I've set the goal to complte the 5K in January and started training for that, the weight issue has not been foremost in my mind--the training has. I still feel that way, but I still want to lose at least 1lb per week. As I start running more in the training, I know that SHOULD happen if I can control what goes in my mouth!

So...all of that, just to say I am down a total of 13lbs!!! This past weekend we went shopping. I have not bought clothes for myself in over a year--too depressing! But, I walked in a store called NY & Co. I LOVE their clothes. At my top weight, I couldn't wear anything in the store. This weekend, I spent over 100 bucks! I bought new pants and new tops. I'm a little heavier up top so the fact that I could actually wear some of the tops is just thrilling!

I've been trying to not get too overly excited because I still have a long way to go. For me though, this is small milestone in my ultimate goal. To be able to shop for clothes I like, in store I like and not be forced to buy something because it's what fits. Granted, I have clothes I like that look nice, but they have been pretty plain and not too sylish. I'm not the most fashion forward person, but I'm just happy I can now buy some things I like on the rack and on me.

On the training end of things... Yesterday after work, Matt and I did the trail around the lake here in Cary. I looked it up online--mapmyrun.com or something like that. Others had already mapped it and it looks to be about 1.2/1.3 miles. I am also happy to report that I successfully completed the Week 4 workout. I did manage the last 5 min run! :yay: At the end of the 30 min, we were about 1/2 way around the lake so we had to keep walking to get back to the car. It was almost like I got my second wind (after I caught my breath). I started walking a little faster, a little faster and even Matt made mention that I walking pretty fast because he was having to walk fast to keep up w/ me! We reached the car and I stretched out, but I was feeling soooo good! I could have just kept on walking! Normally, I'm not a fast-paced walker. I'd rather slow jog. So this was a bit suprising. It felt good though. Like it's been mentioned before, each workout seems to have a mind of it's own. This was a good one for me. I so needed this! The last few had been such bummers! I know I will have more that are bummers too, but I will draw from the wisdom of others out here knowing you have good days and bad days, good workouts and bad ones. This just helps prove to me that I can have a good workout--finally!

Thanks to all of you guys for consistenty posting and offering your care, concern, suggestions and time--we all know it takes time to read journals and post to others. As Scott said, it's not the time spent...it's how you spend the time. So thank you for spending some of your time on taking an interest in someone you don't even know. :flower3: This board is a great source of encouragement for me as I know it is for all of you--otherwise you wouldn't be here! ;)

Hope everyone has a great day!!!
Stacie

BIG HUGE  and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I am so very happy for you and really really proud of you for sticking with a tough program and really hanging tough through a lot of challenges that cropped up along the way. You deserve to celebrate...what a great victory Stacie!!!!

What an inspiration you are to everyone. Hard work and dedication really truly does pay off! Keep on working hard....the pain is only temporary LOL. Running WILL get easier for you! :goodvibes You've made such great strides (ugh..pun)...I think that the 5K is going to be a raging success for you.

Hi Stacie!

Wow!! Good things happening all over the place for you :) Congratulations on the weight loss and more importantly, the new clothes!! It has to feel great to know that you can splurge a little now and get stuff you really like. It's also the best way to know if all the work is paying off. Congratulations again :)

Awesome job with the running too! Sometimes it just takes faith that what you are doing is the right thing, even when the runs or workouts are difficult. I'm happy that you stuck with it and are now reaping the rewards. Great job!

Keep up the great work...have a nice day!
