We are planning to stay at St. Pete Beach in August for 3 days. We have never been there and would like to stay at a place close to everything. We seen a hotel we like called holiday inn hotel and suites 5250gulfview blvd. Has anyone stayed here? Any other recommendations. We really dont want to pay over 100-120 a night. There is a coupon for this place with a bayview in roomsavers for 68 a night and it looks really nice. Anyone have any opinions?

Hi,

We have stayed there for the last two years. Not particularly because we think it is great, just that when you are staying for a couple of days it is handy and bearable.

The rooms are clean but quite dated. The pool is very small but it does open out onto the beach, so that is not a problem. Check out http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...etersburg_Beach-Saint_Pete_Beach_Florida.html for some reviews, as it is very hit and miss.

Some of the nicer hotels have very silly prices, so we came back a second year as at least we knew what to expect! That said, we were out most of the two days that we stayed, we would not choose it if we wanted to hang around the hotel.

I find it hard to put my finger on what it is that I do not like about this hotel - it just seems run down! I think we have been spoilt by all of the good/new hotels in Orlando.

Hope this helps a little,

Michelle

Must be a trend in St. Pete for chain hotels. We stayed at the Travelodge and it was worn but for $45 a night through Skyauction it was very well worth it. We had a fridge and microwave.

St. Pete Beach is a lot smaller than you might think...Nothing is very far away...We loved the location. Make sure you do a day at John's Pass a 10 minute ride away...Very fun but watch out for dive bombing seagulls...They almost got my ice cream:eek:

Thanks photobear sam. I am really excited to go to St. Pete but have no idea what to actually expect or what is around there. We are planning on doing the seascreamer and the boat tour that takes you to egmont key(or something like that). I believe they are not in St .Pete. Is there a shopping strip like some beaches have there? I have read about st. john's pass and I do want to do this also. So many things i want to do but so little time.

That is the hotel that has the revolving restaurant on top, it is in a good area, you will love the beach!! There is a super market in a little strip mall across the street and an IHOP and some other small restaurant. It sounds like you will have plenty to keep you busy but don't forget to make time to just relax on the beach. I haven't stayed in that hotel but it was in between two that I have stayed at ,The Dolphin Beach and The Tradewinds Sandpiper. The Sandpiper was great, new furnishings and much cleaner and more modern than some of the others in the area. Have a great time!!

Thanks yoursis. I also looked at the Dolphin beach too, and it seemed nice. I've noticed some hotels have a little bit of a walkway to the beach and the holiday inn looks like it is right there, which seems nice. The pool does look a little small, but the kids love to swim in the ocean. I heard there are a lot of sting rays in the waters on the gulf, is this true? In Daytona last year we seen quite a few dead jellyfish laying on the beach, sort of creeped me out. Also, my daughter loves to collect shells. How is that on the beach, daytona most are broken up and small and I know she would really enjoy getting better ones? How about the waves, are they mild?. My son is bringing his wave board or boogie board whatever they are called that he bought in Daytona last year.

There is a great place to take a ferry out to an island for sea shells. Pretty famous. You take it from Passe A grille Beach which is south of St. Pete Beach. If you can find the Don Cesaz a big pink hotel thats the beginning of Pass A grille. If your DD like to look for shells spend a afternoon (2 hours) collecting shells. She will love it.

July:tongue:

Thanks July. You guys great, thanks for the information. We are doing a boat tour http://www.tropical-island-getaway.com/ which does include shelling at Egmont Key/shell key that leaves from treasure island so I know she will enjoy that.

Now another ? Can anyone recommend any casual restaurants or places that you can dine outside with good food?

Hi!

I live in St Pete and we go to St Pete Beach often. I have stayed at the Tradewinds which is very nice and right on the gulf. We have also stayed at the Don Cesar. The Don looks like a huge pink castle and it is also right on the gulf. It is very luxurious but also quite expensive.

The waves on the gulf are usually non-existent or very calm unless there is a tropical storm passing through. The shelling is OK. We have always found the beach and gulf to be very clean.

Restaurants:

The Hurricane on Pass-a-Grille Beach. Great grouper sandwiches. You can sit outside.

The Sea Porch Cafe at the Don Cesar has great food and an outside seating area right on the beach.

Ted Peters on Pasadena Avenue looks like a shack but they have wonderful smoked fish and hamburgers. Dress for hot weather because they are not on the beach so you don't get the breezes. It is VERY casual so if you go, just wear shorts.

Leverocks is also good. It is located off the Pasadena Causeway on the Intercoastal Waterway.

Have fun!!!:sunny:

This link will provide you a few good restuarants to frequent with reviews Resturaunts . And here is another one with links to each ones web page. More places to eat. . Have fun, we'll be in the area around August to frequent many of these places.

There is a great little place we ate at, that would be fine to take kids to. The food was good. They do not have a web site but I did find the address for you..
