I'm brand new to DVC and want to know if some of the buildings are better than others to book your stay in. Any help you all came give is appreciated!

We were in the Congress Park section and we always seemed that we were the last to be picked up and dropped off. But, we had an awesome view of the lake and Downtown Disney. It was about a 5 minute walk to the main pool area.

My two favorite locations at SSR are Congress Park and the Grandstand, followed by the Springs. I don’t particularly care for the Paddock or the Carousel areas.

  • Congress Park is right across from Downtown Disney and many rooms have great views of Downtown Disney right across the water.
  • The Grandstand has a nice feature pool. Some of the buildings are a short walk away from the Carriage House. Plus, the busses typically stop here first!
  • The Springs is closest to the main feature pool, the onsite spa and dining, but the busses are sometimes full by the time they get here, since it’s typically one of the last stops.
  • Paddock is more distant from everything and has a smaller quiet pool.
  • Carousel has no pool and is the most removed.

I totally agree with everything Mike said. In Congress Park, the quiet pool view of DTD is really neat. Nothing like sitting there and being able to look at DTD. Very cool! :thumbsup2

I would rate Grandstand as the best, with Congress Park second. Here is a map with the buildings and their room numbers, plus the walking distances per Caskbill. Hope it helps.

By the way, the buildings themselves are exactly the same in all sections. It is just a question of whether or not you are near the main pool, close to Downtown Disney, near a bus stop, etc. So, where you want to be depends on things like whether you have a car and whether you plan to walk to Downtown Disney. As for getting you and your baggage to and from your room with no car, no problem -- bell services will be happy to take you in a golf cart.

Are you requesting the room when you make the reservation? Is it guaranteed with DVC or is it just one of those things you request and hope to get it?

We've stayed at the Paddocks and Congress Park and liked Congress Park much better.

Our family actually prefers The Paddock. It's quiet with a lovely pool, there's a bus right outside the door, and we can walk across the bridge to the main pool area in about 5 minutes (not including the breaks we take to turtle-watch). While we love all things Disney, we also try to avoid theme overload. The Paddock gives us a real break.

That said, however, I no longer have little ones, and DH and I are not so geriatric that a little walk isn't a pleasant thing. My older girls are college age, responsible and well-mannered, and perfectly capable of taking care of our 12 year old so we do not feel the need or obligation to be right there with them. If they were younger, I would probably opt for a more central location with more Disney distractions out the window.

One of the great things about visiting over and over again is the ability to find YOUR perfect location. Decide what your needs/desires are, look at the map and request based on your own criteria. I'm sure you'll be happy wherever you are.:flower3:

Yes you make your request when making your reservation, but there are no guarantees that you will receive it.

My family and I were in the Grandstand in early December and just loved it. It was the first stop for the buses, the kids loved the pool that was right there and it was a short walk to everything else. If we go back to SSR we would request the Grandstand again.

We stayed in the Springs (3141 I think) on our Spring Break trip this year. I loved the location (extremely close to the main resort area).

I did find the bus service in the Springs to be kind of iffy though (we were there over Easter weekend- which I am sure played a part)......

We actually found it easier to walk over to Grandstand and ensure we had a spot on the bus (they fill up quick). OR take a taxi.......

Same with going back to our room. It was a bit of a walk from Grandstand to the Springs (but we found stopping by the bar outside the Turf Club helped things immensely).

First time WDW. We too are requesting Grandstand. So there wasn't a problem getting on the bus? Read some post about waiting for hour to get on MK bus and buses being full. Any other tips you have for SSR?
thanks!:)

Each time we have gone we have stayed in Congress Park. It has a great view of DTD. Each time we check in they tell us it is the most requested part. We have never requested it but always gotten it. Have a great trip:goodvibes

It's our favorite. I requested CP/close to the quiet pool last Thanksgiving. The CM who checked us in said the CP/ctqp was not ready, but she had a 2br over at the Grandstand right next to the pool that was ready. She was surprised that we wanted to wait for CP.

Love the close walk to DTD and the quiet pool is huge.

I am so looking forward to staying at SSR - just purchased my 1st DVC contract yesterday.:thumbsup2

I already have a trip planned for this October at the BCV ( non-point ) and as soon as I get in to DVC member system -I'll be on the phone booking my first member trip.

Hoping to get to SSR for the last week of January 2009 - :cloud9: This thread really helped me see what sections I might want to look to get in to. Right now Grandstand sounds perfect for DH and me...
