SSR visit - somewhat disappointed.

You have be here awhile to understand the abuse SSR owners get. We seemed to get blamed for every problem there is at Disney.

Can't get a room two weeks out cause of those SSR owners. DDP is ruined now cause of those SSR owners. The carpets are stained and ruined in the BWV halls, cause of the SSR owners. I couldn't get a ADR cause of the SSR owners. Resale prices are falling cause of all those SSR owners.

SSR owners have been called everyting from ignorant slobs to trailer trash here on these boards. It amazes me how "some" look down at and treat SSR owners as a lower class owner. Calling for DVC to limit SSR to just thier resort, so not to mix with the other members at thier "Epcot" resorts.

Its actually been awhile for a good SSR thrashing thread. I actually thought we were beyond that again. I guess not! :confused3

Howdy,

Don't forget the "in over our heads" description of SSR owners:lmao:who were apparently only able to purchase due to all that "cheap and easily available" $$$!! Guess only the financially successful DVC owners own at the other resorts:confused3.

I am a relatively new owner ( just 1 yr. now). I purchased BWV after my SSR tour only because it was cheaper on the resale market. I know BWV needs some refurbishment, it is the second oldest DVC. It does get bashed on these boards, so SSR is not the only one. I am looking forward to staying at SSR in the near future. It is newer, in a lot better shape than BWV. If they would guarantee me Congress Park or Grandstand, would be there in a heartbeat! Lets all not take this too personally......like OP said, these are just buildings! At some point in time, every dvc will have something wrong with it. Lets just be happy we get to go!!:goodvibes

I'm not sure if the "financially successful" owners have an argument there. We had the chance to buy into AKV or SSR, and choose SSR for the location. And we are average middle class folks who work for a living. I'm guessing if Boardwalk and SSR were on the board at the same time, it would be the same story, for us.

If there is such a thing as a DVC hierarchy, than that is plain ridiculous. :sad2:

It is sad that there are "holier than thou" people out there...

We love all the resorts for different reasons. I love getting to try something different every time. But it seems like after my summer trips (Where I try something diffferent) I am always missing Saratoga so that makes my NYE trips more special. I have a trip coming up this summer where I have changed the reservations so many times but as of 2 days ago finally have them nailed down-I think! 19 days--6 at AKV, 5 at BCV, and 8 at OKW. Now that is variety. but for NYE-SSR all the way baby! I love to sit at the Congress Park pool for fireworks and then walk to my room and be asleep while others are still waiting for a bus to get back to the resort.
As far as the POP reference..last summer we wanted to add two days to our trip just for fun and we decided to try POP-thought my kids would love it. Well, they did but I really hated it. I don't in any way consider myself a snob about resorts -(I had loved ASMovies a few years ago) --but POP felt so dingy to me. I couldn't wait to leave. So-I don't get the reference at all.

I didn't have time to read through this whole thread, so I apologize in advance if I am duplicating thoughts already expressed, but has anyone who is knocking the authenticity of SSR actually been to the Saratoga region of NY? The architectural details and horse racing themes are right on. As for the "water feature", Saratoga has a bunch of standpipes with water spouts all around the old spa areas. The water is supposed to have healing properties, thus the reason for tourists and health fanatics alike flocking there in the early part of the last century. I think the designers did a stellar job in capturing the details of Saratoga. Just my opinion for whatever you think it's worth. :goodvibes

Aha, in my second post, I did acknowledge that the design could match exactly what the real Saratoga area looks like.
Guess the Disney folks went for accuracy!
But where is the authentic aroma of horses? ;)

I don't bash any resort. What appeals to one does not appeal to another. To each his own. Besides, who's to say which DVC resort is the "Best"??

Exterior hallways or walkways say "Florida" to me. We lived in Miami for 4 years and the campus where I worked had many buildings like that, with rooms that opened directly to the outdoors. Coming from the Northeast, it was very novel and fun for me.

So I appreciate that aspect of SSR. It makes me feel that I am away from home and in a special place. I also read in the Unofficial Guide that rooms that open to the outdoors are quieter than rooms that open to a hallway because the door is more solid & reinforced to maintain the interior temperature.

However, we have also stayed at BCV and loved that too.

We just got back from spending our first night at SSR before our DCL trip.

Re: the hallways: The gray floor makes the whole building look cheap and slapdash. It looks unfinished, warehouse like. I feel like the concrete at OKW is blue (am I wrong?) The effect feels completely different. The are tons of scuff marks on the gray floors that really stand out. DH and I both immediately noticed it.

I can understand not wanting carpet, but they should have done painted concrete floors, stenciled or something, to give SSR a richer effect.

That said, our studio was lovely. Great view. We'd stay there again.

The open walkways don't bother me at all. It is the style of the resort like OKW. I enjoy them even more when it keeps my maintenance fees down as the maintenance costs are much less for not having to replace carpeting or use eletricty to keep the hallways cool!

I agree completely! I don't mind the walkways either! Especially when it is storming outside, I love to go out in the walkway and watch!

As I've learned over the years, Disney is really good at recycling. I'm sure the groundskeepers have recycled the "nature's gold" or "God's biscuits" or "meadow muffins" from the campground horses (and maybe even the larger stuff from the AK...elephant dung:scared1: ) into fertilizer for all the beautiful plantings all around WDW. Maybe on a particularly warm day, one might get a hint of ammoniated nitrogen. :rotfl: I'm certain that if enough people asked for that wonderful barn smell, Disney would accomodate. It's an acquired taste (or smell) if you know what I mean. :lmao: IMHO they should have a stable and riding there anyway. Now that would be authentic! :thumbsup2

Thanks TomandRobin for the clarification. And I am an SSR owner and have been for awhile :lovestruc but am new to the board. It's too bad SSR owners are getting harsh treatment.

And the reason I said people are defensive is because there was a previous board that was shut down regarding TOILETS! Not sure you saw it, but the responses were totally unbelievable.

Sorry for hijacking the post. But back to the OP, I'm glad you told us about the change in patio furniture. Something more upscale for us SSR owners.:rotfl: And it sounds more comfortable, too.

I wonder if those bathrooms ever got fixed? LOL!!! It seems to me like nobody can say anything bad about a resort on this disboard. There is always someone that has to get upset and be all mad and then get mean towards the person posting the thread. I was there when they changed the patio furniture. The people who did it were not disney employees. instead they were a rental company, that went into your room when you were at the parks. I did not like that, disney should have sent out a memo to people that there was going to be a patio furniture change. We had all of our stuff laying out. Sort of creepy to me. So now people once again you can be mean towards me, instead of the other people!

I'll be there in the spring so I'll let you know if those bathrooms got fixed.;)

That is creepy! That's why I like mousekeeping - we know which day they're coming and can put things away we'd like "hidden."

Yes, misery loves company. And some people are just plain miserable!:confused3

LOL--well I live across the street from a horse arena/stable and when the wind is right can catch the "aroma" of my equine neighbors . . . . I would just as soon not have that experience when I am on vacation ! (Well, maybe I'd be ok with it if they also put in a racetrack--think Disney would get into horseracing? :rotfl2: )
