SSR visit - somewhat disappointed.

I could be wrong, but is the Grandstand pool area even considered a "quiet" pool? It's got a kids play area, a bar...not exactly what I'd consider a quiet area.

The pools in the Paddock and Congress Park areas are more of a quiet pool type.

Good question...I actually consider The Grandstand pool a second themed pool. I would not have considered it a quiet pool.

The sales guides and staff refer to it as a "second themed pool with water feature".

But considering how quiet Grandstand is, I can see a first timer mistaking it for a quiet pool.

Re: internal vs. external hallways
There's one plus to have external hallways: more natural light. Our beach condo is in a 10 story high-rise with one long internal hallway. It's dark as night in them. Very scary when someone trips the fire alarm and we lose what illumination we have to emergency lights. I don't look forward to seeing this at the possible CRV.

Is there a lifeguard at the Grandstand?

Yes, BroganMc - Those are the kind of interior halls that give me the creeps. I love the open air walkways/entrances at SSR and OKW- I also love atrium style lobbies like Contemp or AKL- I just really dislike enclosed hotel corridors for some reason.

I kinda get that vibe from BCV on the upper floors. I think it's mostly because they seem to double back on themselves. I have no problem with BWV.

Exterior hallways or walkways say "Florida" to me. We lived in Miami for 4 years and the campus where I worked had many buildings like that, with rooms that opened directly to the outdoors. Coming from the Northeast, it was very novel and fun for me.

So I appreciate that aspect of SSR. It makes me feel that I am away from home and in a special place. I also read in the Unofficial Guide that rooms that open to the outdoors are quieter than rooms that open to a hallway because the door is more solid & reinforced to maintain the interior temperature.

However, we have also stayed at BCV and loved that too.

Very true, many deluxe resorts in the Caribbean, Hawaii and the Southwest have outside open air corridors.

I'm so happy to hear about the patio furniture!!! :yay:
Sitting on the balcony was one of my favorite pastimes last year at SSR.

I know everyone rags on AP at SSR, but I found myself longing for it after getting stuck a few times at the Marketplace at BCV. The food line at AP works alot better than the one at BCV. Multiple family units trying to order kids meals!

Don't worry I never get full of popcorn:: on one of these threads. :lmao: Thanks for the drink!

We loved the AP at SSR! We loved the food selection too! It was crowded when we were there, but the food came pretty quickly! I do wish they had another food area, but you are so right about the wait at BCV!

I own at SSR and have visited for spa treatments, but have never stayed there. I've heard people say that DTD is a plus, but how long does it actually take to walk over there?

We stayed in Congress Park last summer and it took us about 6-7 minutes to get to DTD and the busses. We loved it! It was perfect for us, because we love RFC, and it was just a short walk to it!

I almost feel like I shouldn't tell people how great it is, so I'm more apt to get my first choice!:rotfl: So...It's a terribly long walk to everything, the resort is ugly, the pool is yucky, the views are bad, and it's really noisy!:rotfl: I just hate that place!:lmao:

Wow, do you happen to remember the room number or at least the building you were in with that view?

It was building 1501-1836 If you look at the map of SSR it is in the corner that is directly in line with the bus stop. This is a room that many would say was not what they wanted in a view I am sure but we enjoyed it very much. The funny thing is we have stayed at SSR 3 times and the first two were in this same room. This last trip we were in a room at the Grandstand that overlooked the carriage house where the ME buses drop off. We enjoyed that room also even though some would say it was terrible. Can't wait to see which one we get March 10th. I always request upper floor at any resort also even OKW where I have to lug things up the stairs.

I think the popcorn guy is usually used in an insulting way. Like "I can't believe you said that (are arguing about that) and I'll just sit back and watch this thread implode." If you didn't mean it that way, then perhaps you should learn to use the "thread tools" drop-down
on the upper right. Drop it down and select "Subscribe to this thread" and then you are subscribed without any popcorn popcorn::.

I have disagree with your assessment of what most people's intentions are when using popcorn man. I wish you would go back and look at the first handful of posts. Do you really think our intent was to insult the OP?

For me.... "I can't believe you said that" = or maybe :sad2:

popcorn:: = "this is going to be interesting... I'm subscribing".

Maybe the thread is going to implode, maybe it will just be lively discussion, but it is certainly not up any one person as to what is the correct procedure for subscribing to a thread.

I have to agree with Rob. I use the popcorn man icon when I am reading a thread, kinda like "watching a movie". No offense is intended when I use it.

No, I didn't think you had the intention to insult the OP. I do admit that endless popcorn:: posts on a possibly inflammatory thread is one of my DIS pet peeves :headache:. After so many years on the DIS I have more than one, LOL, and I usually just grin and bear it:beach:.

But my comment really wasn't about a "subscribing" popcorn:: as a Really Bad Egg used the popcorn:: twice. Once in post #11 and again in post #47. While the first one could be considered a "subscribing" popcorn::the latter one was definitely not. A "bumping" popcorn:: means something less innocent, IMO. Especially when the thread had just been posted to minutes before.

 I think I just used popcorn:: in one post more that I have in all my other posts combined :lmao:.

Trying to compare SSR to say VWL or AKV is like comparing apples to oranges. Some like apples and some like oranges.

I definitely want to try SSR sometime in the future. I want to try OKW as well. Variety is the spice of life they say.

Whenever I see popcorn:: , I'm reminded of Dory and the sea turtle children when Marlin starts telling the story about Nemo getting lost/stolen- "This is going to be interesting."

Thank you for the clarification... :goodvibes

It doesn't, but its something to complain about.......

I think it is merely the reference to the entertainment of SSR haters vs SSR lovers......

Tisbit, totally agree. And not to change the subject, but being rather knew to the board, I can't believe how defensive people are when there's a negative opinion about SSR. :confused3

To each his own! And chill!!:flower3:

You have be here awhile to understand the abuse SSR owners get. We seemed to get blamed for every problem there is at Disney.

Can't get a room two weeks out cause of those SSR owners. DDP is ruined now cause of those SSR owners. The carpets are stained and ruined in the BWV halls, cause of the SSR owners. I couldn't get a ADR cause of the SSR owners. Resale prices are falling cause of all those SSR owners.

SSR owners have been called everyting from ignorant slobs to trailer trash here on these boards. It amazes me how "some" look down at and treat SSR owners as a lower class owner. Calling for DVC to limit SSR to just thier resort, so not to mix with the other members at thier "Epcot" resorts.

Its actually been awhile for a good SSR thrashing thread. I actually thought we were beyond that again. I guess not! :confused3
