I bought into DVC in 1992 with a 230 point contract at OKW. I have since bought 7 add ons at various resorts, not SSR, and now have 550 points.

I have seen SSR and think it is pretty and appealing and would like to hear as many nice things about it as possible.

I have a habit of staying at OKW but would be open to breaking that habit by staying at SSR, at least some of the time. I might even consider another add on!

I would enjoy pictures as well.

Thanks.

Tired from "park" ing it all day?... your exhausted. What to come HOME to at SSR? Beautiful winding pathways throughout the resort with paths along the waterside. Calm and serene walks along these paths at dusk when DTD is coming to life with all the geogeous lights reflecting in the water. Having a delicious blue colada slide by the pool at On the Rocks under the big umbrella as watch all the fun kids having fun flying out of the rock slide.
As you walk back to your delightful villa after dark you hear a clip clop. It's the horse drawn carriage moving along with smiling faces in it. Sitting on your patio or balacony hearing the wildlife and watching them play. The bunnies, ducks, frogs, crickets and geicos make the most exciting and peaceful cast members at all of Disney. Leisure pools that make any tiring day better by
enjoying the water or sitting poolside while the giant frog statues keep you amused. Settle into your villa and take a long hot soak in your big whirlpool tub before bedtime. A pleasant slow paced walk over to DTD to get some ice cream and enjoy the view of SSR across the water. When you leave SSR it as if you have been on vacation and feel refreshed to go back to reality.

These are a few things we treasure at SSR.

That sounds wonderful! The walk, the pool, the carriage, the frog statue, the views of DTW.

Keep it coming!

Can anyone tell me if SSR has exterior hallways like a moderate resort? Or is this OKW that has exterior hallways :confused3

TV, if you get to visit SSR, I hope you will enjoy the peaceful and relaxing atmoshpere. As I'm quite sure that are pluses and minuses to anywhere you stay at anytime, I hope you 'll be able to see all the beauty that SSR holds within. Thank you for the opportunity to express the good qualities of SSR and again hope you find something there that pleases you and yours, and will brings smiles to your faces~

Yes, SSR has exterior hallways. We found we liked them. Our unit seemed very peaceful and quiet--nice to come back to after the parks. SSR is beautiful. We loved it! Nice decor, friendly CM's, and very quiet. The kids loved the main pool. :thumbsup2

I am an OKW person, but have stayed in a studio at SSR the last two visits and find I really like it a lot. Since I work in schools and have to visit during crazy besy times, I find myself visiting the parks casually, and spending more time relaxing and walking to downtown Disney. SSR is a very nice resort, the pool is great, the landscaping is nice and will truly be beautiful once it really gets established. It is a very nice addition to DVC, and ties with BCV for my second choice after OKW.

Just to clarify, although they are exterior hallways, some of them are almost totally enclosed. Some rooms are like OKW where, if you look out your door you see 'outside'; others are like a traditional hotel where you look out and see another door. However, they are not totally enclosed, not heated or A/C, you get fresh air, etc.

tvwalsh,
I have posted these before. Again, I can't take credit for them. They aren't mine . If these are from someone on this board I just thought I'd let you know that they give me my Disney fix between trips. Thanks! I especially like the slide show! :goodvibes
ps. there are nice BCV pictures on this site too!

Spicey, the SSR carriage rides started January 3, 2006. They are daily, first ride at 5pm to 9pm. Cost is $35.

We really enjoyed it when we were there.

Great Description Elijah!! We really enjoy SSR too.

SSR also has a Community Hall and we love spending time there as a family. It is close to the main area, so it's like being in a small town. Everyone is happy and the water features around the resort are stunning! Even when waiting at the main bus stop, you can see the Spring fountain. Hands down, one of the best views from a bus stop at WDW.
Also, the boat to DTD. Just great to be able to hop on a boat! Very nice.

A 25 minute horse drawn carriage ride around SSR (upto 2 adults / 3 children or 4 adults) for $35.
Says for details or reservations call 407-824-2832, is some information I have. I guess you could call that number and ask about accomodations.

I hope this helps and hope you get to enjoy the ride. IT looks like a great trip to add to memory lane~

The rooms/units at SSR are beautifully furnished. And since the resort is brand new, it does not yet have that worn out feel (I know that won't last forever, but its nice while it applies). I love the kitchen with the granite countertops. The pool area is incredible, for the first Disney vacation ever, my kids opted to skip MK one day so we could just hang out at SSR and swim, walk around and play in the arcade. I'm still in shock over that one! We have stayed there twice, both times with family and they all still talk about what a lovely resort it was and how much they enjoyed it. Honestly, we are booked at BWV for later this month and I have half a mind to change to SSR. I had wanted to try out another resort for a change of pace and also was afraid I would be too emotional going back to SSR since I visited there with my terminally ill mother in October. I just keep thinking about the peace and tranquility of SSR and that pool (the clown slide at BWV will probably give me nightmares for about six months). I may be calling MS tomorrow to change, who knows! Also, the closeness to DTD is so nice. To the OP, if you like OKW, I cannot imagine you would not enjoy SSR as well. Good luck with your decision, don't you wish all decisions in life were this much fun to ponder?

P.S. Forgot to add that my 9 year old daughter was asked in Sunday school recently what heaven must be like. Her best guess would be that it probably looks a lot like Saratoga Springs!

LOL!! Im right there with ya!! I called MS this morning to see if we could change from BWV to SSR for at least part of our trip next month. I would have to waitlist for the SSR studio, but the 1 bdr's are open. I have SV at BWV and that is really bugging me to give that up, but I really miss SSR. What to do! What to do!

I have to drag my kids to the parks! They prefer to hang out at Community Hall, swim and play shuffleboard.

And yes, the Carriage Ride is $35 up to capacity. I thought that was a great deal and it was myself, Dh, 2 Ds's and Dn. Very nice.

Too funny, we are having a little family meeting tonight to decide if we want to stick with BWV or switch to BWV. We'll probably stick with BWV but we are already planning a leisurely 10 nights at SSR for October 2007 if I can hold off that long! Good luck with your decision!

We have that same habit of staying at our home resort of OKW! It's a tough habit to break, but SSR may just do that for you. It's the only other on property DVC resort that feels like a vacation home and not a hotel. Where OKW feels like a neighborhood, SSR feels like a small village. The rooms are smaller than OKW, but decorated the nicest out of all the on property non-OKW DVC's. We never had any desire to stay there, but were forced to last summer due to some last minute planning, and loved our stay. We're staying back at OKW this summer, but plan on staying at SSR again from time to time. We even bought our first ever add on at SSR.

Having an upscale fast food court and easily refilled refillable mugs is great. We also loved the pool area and the community hall activities were very frequent as well. Easy access to the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course and the onsite Spa are also big plusses. The cm's were some of the nicest on Disney property and the resort also has it's own bus service, just like OKW. Being walking distance to Downtown Disney is great, especially being that close to DQ and Ghiradelli's. Hopping any resort bus there is a big plus if you like dining and relaxing at the other resorts like we do.
