Based on the point requirements for SSR as posted in another thread, below is a comparison of SSR to the other WDW resorts.

I have not seen an official SSR point chart so am only going by what was posted. If anyone finds any errors please let me know and I will correct them.

All points are listed as WEEKDAY-WEEKEND point requirements. Weekday = Sun through Thurs. Weekend = Fri, Sat

so, is there?

While it's possible to put the chart into the DVCPlanner program yourself, this is not recommended. One small error could make the program not usable. The program's help file explains how to edit the point chart, but that was meant for correcting something if there was a reallocation of points in some future year, not for entering a whole new chart

Yes, I will be putting up a new chart on my website. However, as I'm sure everyone can understand, I'm not going to create the SSR charts until I see it officially printed from Disney. Don't want to have a mistake out there that everyone downloads.

Also, it will take me awhile to take the data and create the charts for 2005 through 2010. We'll be on vacation for awhile so it'll be a few weeks before we get back. Hopefully we'll get a mailing from Disney in the meantime. Then I can work on it.

I'll probably have the chart ready about Aug 25th at the soonest.

I'll post on the DIS when the new chart is ready.

Looks like Disney is kicking themselves over points needed for OKW and BWV Standard Views! All the SSR numbers are JUST under the BWV(p), VWL and BCV 'costs'.

For smaller units, farther away from all the parks, I have to say I'm kind of surprised. I think they needed those extra years in the contract to add SOMETHING for the new buyers.

Personally - I'd buy an OKW resale WAY before I'd buy SSR. Bigger rooms, and lower point costs! A pool slide and possible view of DD just isn't worth it to me. Have to check it out after its complete to see if I change my mind! :D

Weekdays: The largest point differences are here. 2% to 38% more points than OKW and BWV(s) and about 8% to 10% less points than the other on property resorts for studios, 1 br and 2 br units. The most striking are the large GV against OKW point differences (76% to 90% more points) -- possibly the point schedule they wished they had at OKW. SSR GV points about 10% lower than BWV GV.

Weekends: Similar to OKW and BWV(s) for studios during adventure and choice seasons, slightly more points during magic and premier. About 9% lower points than at other resorts.

One bedrooms are similar to BWV(s) during adventure, choice and magic seasons and slightly higher during magic and lower during premier. Slightly more points than OKW during adventure to magic and less points during premier. About 10%-11% lower points than at other resorts.

Two Bedroom units are about 10% fewer points at WL, BCV and BWV(p). It is a mixed bag of lower, same and higher points elsewhere, depending on season.

GV at SSR are 1-12% less points on weekends than OKW and 10% less points on weekends than BWV.

Same size and layout as BWV, VWL, BCV.

Points higher than OKW & BWV standard. Doubt I will stay there.

Anyone notice the weekend vs weekday adjustments in the points schedule?
 
I did notice that, and I think Caskbill (Another big thank you for the chart!) mentioned it too.

There really is far too much lopside on the weekend for points IMHO. Wasn't this originally set up to get the cash buyers in on the weekends??

Maybe this isn't working out as well as they planned. Even though I'm new to this, It's just natural to want to stay Sun - Thurs.

I wonder if this is a prelude of things to come for the other resorts. I know they can't do drastic readjustments, but over several years....

No, it was not set up to get cash buyers in for the weekends. It was set up to discorouge locals from using weekends only making it difficult for people to reserve entrie weeks.

They did go too far. we know that becasue of the low occupancy rates on the weekends, especially for GVs.
 
I agree with Rich. I don't think I've ever seen it in writing but the explanations I've seen over the years are something to fhe effect of trying to secure even usage. Personally I've been thinking, and posting, for a while that DVC will likely readjust at some point. I'm frankly surprised they haven't done so already.
 
I actually think the points disparity between weekdays and weekends is about right, it may err slightly on the punative side for weekend use but IMHO that is the correct side to err on. We all knew the schedule when we bought in, so I'm assuming that no one is/was unaware of how many points ( and therefore $$) it does/would cost them to stay at weekends.

I can't begin to think of the uproar that would be cause if the schedule was "slanted" the other way so that weekends would be only marginally more expensive than weekdays. IMHO it would have the potential to make stays for those people who like to book whole weeks or longer almost impossible at less than 9-10 months notice. I think many people who stay a week or longer "justify" (for want of a better word) their use of high points weekends by averaging out the cost over the whole period of stay. IMHO a major change in the slanting of the points use (even if done over several years) would dramatically change the dynamics of the system and would disadvantage the majority of the users in a major way, while only provide a moderate advantage to a (granted sizable) minority group.

I would also think that Disney would view the fact the current system tends to produce spare rooms at the weekend ( the best time for Disney to rent them out) is a very fortunate and desirable coincidence/by-product of that system.
 
It could be that before going through all of the hassle and expense of adjusting all of the other point charts, they are trying out slightly less expensive weekends and slightly more expensive weekdays, though honestly I don't know what such a slight difference would do except to people who have JUST enough points for their normal routine and part of that routine is to cut off weekends.

They probably legally can't do this but it would be interesting if they had two point structures, one for people booking at least 4 days NOT including a weekend where all of the points are equal and one for people booking up to 4 days and including a weekend. The first would have even points for every day of the week and the second would have the traditional high weekend/low weeknight schedule. Within say 60 days, the "weekend" point schedule could revert to the "even" point schedule so that florida residents can fill those weekend rooms if they are still available on short notice without paying an arm and a leg for them. I know the total points would never add up this way but it would be nice if all of those really cheap 5-day rentals went away and it would be nice if the weekend rooms could be filled at a more moderate point cost if they are not already filled by some reasonable amount of time away.

Where do you get your weekend occupancy data, Rich? Curious.
 
I like the fact that weekends cost more. They are more desireable for both locals and others within reasonable driving distance, and if they cost less, it could be a hassle for me to book, maybe even at 11 months out. This trip, we are staying a 3 day weekend at an off site Marriott, and then 6 nights at OKW, when the season changes, including a Friday, to get the most bang for our points. So we play the savings game, too!

If weekends were cheaper, guess what, weekdays would cost more, so there go your savings.
 
The occupancy rates have been posted here more than once.

More importantly, call right now for any day from oct thru dec in an OKW GV. There will be plenty of days available, all weekend days, but there will be lots of them. There will not be one, not even one, weekday available.

So, in answer to your question, reading this board and experience and conversations with CMs.
 
Thanks for all the great observations/points.

Helps me see more clearly how/why the point structures were set up. It really is pretty fair when you step back and take a look at all the variables. (local, regional, and international traffic, week long averaging, etc. ) Thankfully, the system has the flexibility to do just about anything schedule wise.


Typical human nature, I was looking at it from my being a new owner (approved and waiting to close) :)~ and preference perspective. We currently like to take 4-6 night trips, in the fall/winter and wanted to minimize the days, and point use, when the kids are out of school.
