SSR Owners - Where Will You Use Your Points?

How Will You Use Your Points?

  • I'm so excited to own at SSR and can't wait to stay there -- it will be my first choice for some tim

  • I plan to stay at SSR first but will alternate stays at all other DVC resorts

  • I will mostly stay at SSR and alternate to other non-WDW options

  • I just bought to get into the DVC program. I will mostly stay at another DVC resort.

  • I will always try for SSR first and stay elsewhere when there is no availability.

A theory came up in another thread about how SSR owners will use their points. As always, we have a very small sample posting here but I thought it might be interesting to see how SSR owners are thinking.

For those who purchased an add-on -- consider just how you will be using your SSR points, not your overall vacation pattern.

It'll be years before we get tired enough with SSR to try the other DVC resorts. "Buy where you want to stay"; now where did I hear that? ::heehee::

Seriously, we really want to get comfortable with our home resort - so that it really feels like home. Plus, we want to space out the other resorts - sort of like getting a present every two or three months instead of all of them at Christmas.

Everyone complains about the location of SSR but I like it. To be able to get my kids in the bath while my husband goes and gets dinner from DD sounds great. I also think that when my boys get bigger they will love going to Disney Quest after a day at the parks. I also think it will have the best location for getting from one resort to another, just take a bus from DD.

Can't wait to do my first trip there and from everything that I've seen about it, I can't see us going anywhere else for some time!

Looking forward to that first Welcome Home at SSR!

:wave: ::yes::

PamOKW,
Cool survey. But, I keep changing my mind and can't decide how to vote. So far, the only ressies I've made are for SSR at the end of May for the grand opening celebration.

I am thinking about booking NYE '04 for SSR for a mostly non-park visit and to take advantage of the spa, et'c.

Or, a visit to Disneyland this summer. Haven't thought about much beyond that.

( I have BCV points to stay at BCV and BWV to cover stays at BWV--so, at this point, I'm not sure if I would use my SSR points to stay at the other resorts. )

My answer wasn't on the poll, but I will tell you my plan:

We plan on staying at BCV first this coming May. I don't have an interest in staying at SSR when it first opens. I'd rather they work out their kinks.

That being said, our second trip will be SSR. We will mainly stay at SSR, but would like to try WLV and HHI eventually. I've already stayed at BWV and loved it. I'd probably try there again. SSR will always be my #1 -- unless I'm unhappy after our first stay which I highly doubt.

One of my fav WDW resorts (and one that IMHO should be considered a 'deluxe') is the Port Orleans. Reason being? Simply for the boat ride to DTD. These sister resorts are the only moderate's that have transportation via something other then bus to a Disney area. In fact they are the ONLY resorts to offer boat service to DTD. DH and I spend SO much time in DTD that this was a HUGE factor for us to purchase DVC at SSR.

That being said; I would say that most of our time will be spent at SSR.

My plan also was not a choice on the poll.

My childrens ages are 8, 6,6,3 and 16 months. In the long run I think SSR will be wonderful for us. We always go to Disney in November when the park hours are limited. Being close to Disney Quest and the rest of DTD will be great.

For our 1st trip I want to stay at VWL so that we can easily take advantage of Ft. Wilderness. I figure I only have a few years until toasting marshmallows with Chip and Dale and visitng a petting farm can't compete with Disney Quest.

OKW also has boat transportation to DTD, at least it did last summer. My wife and I visited Port Orleans during our recent Christmas trip, and were suitably impressed. I understand that the French Quarter rehab will probably be done by summer, and were considering a one-night stay there or at Riverside before checking into BCV this June. We enjoyed The Caribbean Beach Resort before we joined DVC, but I have to agree that Port Orleans seems a bit more "upscale."

PamOKW, thanks for a great poll. It is fun to see how a sampling of people of the DIS are planning to spend their SSR points.

We are very excited about owning at SSR and plan to spend most of our time there. We love Downtown Disney and think the proximity is a very big asset for the resort. We also love the theme and the pool looks fantastic! We have a two year old son and we think that the surroundings will work well for children, specially the pool area. The dining is a huge plus for us as Wolfgang Puck’s is our favorite restaurant at WDW.

At some point we would like to try BCV and BWV. We do love the Wilderness Lodge, but for some reasons the room décor doesn’t look that nice to us. IMHO, SSR has the best in room décor and a great theme — even if it doesn’t have SAB or the Boardwalk. I think that is why there are so many Disney resort choices — everyone has their own favorite theme, likes and dislikes.

We are also excited about the spa choice. I feel that the proximity to golf will also help keep the value high.

Overall, we feel we’ve purchased where we want to stay — not just the only choice available. We will explore the other properties and you never know, if we like them, an add on might be in our future, but for now, SSR is our home and we are excited about it.

We bought SSR because we love the location. We always spend a lot of time at DD and PI.

We just bought it well we were at WDW in Dec and already had vacation plans booked for 2004 so for the first year our plan is to bank all our points and probably won't be making our first trip until late 2005.

We have our first DVC stayed already booked at SSR, but I am worried about waiting until the 7 month window for future stays in hopes of getting a different property. Is it normal to always book one's home resort at 11 month and then, if what you really wanted is available, change to a different resort at the 7 month window?

Is there anyway to see the results without voting? I am not SSR owner but would like to see without skewing it.

Logout and it will show you the current results.

In 04 i'm banking my ponts so will be 05 before I get the pleaser but it will be SSR no if's and's or but's about it. But then 06 it will be Disneyland then back to Disneyworld and SSR in 07. I am going to try to stay at all of them at some point, heck each one has their own charm why wouldn't I want to experance it at some point. But I can't see not wanting to spend most of my stays at SSR, well unless I can get more cruise time that is.

I plan on staying at SSR for the majority of my trips. Going to DD and visiting the spa are two of my favorite things to do!

I am splitting my stays, half the time at SSR and the other half at other DVC resorts. This June I'll stay 5 days at OKW and 5 at SSR with 2 days in between at Universal. I am more excited than a kid in a candy store.

As a DVC member and owner at SSR, I already booked my first trip and it was for SSR.

We do plan on staying in other resorts, but we are really looking forward to our first visit home. We are hoping that they are doing some fun things to celebrate the opening of SSR during its first few months.

We hope that eventually we get to see them all. I am looking forward to just heading over to OKW and walking around to get the feel of the place.

We fell in love with the Wilderness Lodge, but our favorite resort is Epcot. So....our next vacation we want to try either VWL or one of the Epcot resorts. But, you never know - we may just fall in love with SSR and have to do it again.

Have first trip planned to SSR in June, waiting to call for SSR December 04...
Plan on Summer 05 trying for Bwv or BCV ---my mom's choice, she gets to be Queen for a week when we take her to her very first Disney trip EVER!
