SSR main pool closed in March?

I am on the phone with Member Services. The person I spoke with said that they were notified this morning and that it was confirmed. The main pool will be closed in March beginning March 9th. I checked for avaialility the week of March 14-21. There was only spotty availability (14th and 17th). I checked studios, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom.

I don't understand the timing of this. Is this common of Disney to refurbish pools during peak dates and when the weather is typically nice? Seems like there are a number of other dates that would have made better sense.

verified that the pool will be closed March 5 - 30.

bad timing - especially since they annouced SALB long, long ago.

asked where my guests can pool hop too - last time it was OKW - but suggest that everyone writes DVC and tells them it would be nice to be notified when members made the reservations not long after and to make sure members are notified next time - when they can change their rehab schedule.

DP is only at SSR and also mentioned that. If they are forcing us to stay at SSR - why are they closing the pool?

just not right anyway you look at it.

I can't understand why the Manager of the resort was unaware of this as of last night. They said that for sure there was nothing going on and the pool would be open!!

I agree it is absolutely neccessary to now! I just wish I could confirm definatively.

I received a letter from Disney indicating the pool would be closed, Member Services told me this morning that they were notified today that the main pool would be closed and I spoke with SSR and they confirmed that they were notified this morning.

I do not understand the timing either. I also checked on pool hopping and was told that this was not available during the time we would be there, but that the SSR quiet pools would be open.

I don't know why but this has just put a HUGE sour taste in my mouth about our vacation!!

I know there are 2 other pools but they will be that much busier plus we have a senior who wouldn't want to walk that far......plus kids have been admiring pictures of the slides, splash pad.....

Hello
ok, now there's more conflict, so i'm typing the letter i received. This letter, as you'll see, allows pool hopping...or at least calling various resorts at the time of wanting to pool hop to check availability....not to be given a blantent no 2 months before arrival.:confused3

December 2008 (received December 31)

"Dear Disney Vacation Club Member,

We are delighted you have selected Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa as your upcoming vacation destination!

In order for Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa to continue to flourish as a magical destination, it is necessary for us to make enhancements from time to time. If you have stayed with us before, you are most likely familiar with our swimming and recreation areas, specifically High Rock Spring Pool. Beginning March 9, 2009, the pool and slide will be closed so that we can begin a resurfacing effort. We expect the work to be completed late March 2009. During this time, the leisure pools will be available for your enjoyment.

As a Disney Vacation Club Member, you also have the exclusive privilege to "pool hop" and experience numerous themed pools across the Walt Disney World Resort, subject to pool-hopping guidelines and pool availability. If you plan on pool hopping during your stay, please call ahead to the Front Desk of the destination hotel to check availability.

We apologize for any inconvenience the pool and slide resurfacing may cause. If you have any questions regarding your upcoming reservation, please call Member Services at (phone numbers given).

We are glad you are a Member of our Disney Vacation Club family, and we look forward to entertaining you for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Disney Vacation Club Member Services"

OK, are you ready for this....

So, just got off the phone with SSR - again they said it WILL be open so I asked to speak to Management and told them about your letter. She then called the renovation department and the pool WAS going to be closed for resurfacing in March but they have since cancelled this due to the other pools at DVC resorts being closed.

Pixie Dust for ME!!!!!!! And all of you staying in March!!!!

Boy I just saw this thread and hope you are right...we are there 3-24 and booked a long time ago. There is no need for the pool work to be done during Spring Break time what is wrong with Jan..... Sept when occupancy is low. This is silly....and SAL is closed too....also to notify at this late date....and it seems like the place is full too.:confused3

I am hoping a DVC member will call back member services and confirm what I was told - it was going to close but now is not. I am not a DVC member but the Manager I spoke with gave me this info to explain why DVC members had received this letter.

hoping to get a phone call or letter from DVC in a couple of days.

sometimes when enough members complaint DVC does change it mind.

hope so too!

Just to verify what I am reading-Are you saying that the Beach club main pool will be closed during the same time? I have not been keeping up with it since we did not have reservations there.

the big pool at bc/yc/bcv - salb will be closed - it was announced long ago

1/5/09 to 4/15/09 - they are doing it in sections.

I got my letter today saying it would be closed. I'm very disappointed since we requested the Grandstand section this time. My kids are teens now and prefer the quiet pools. It certainly won't be quiet if High Rocks is closed.

Sheribo...as per my posts, I am still hoping that the Manager I spoke with last night had the most accurate information. She said the letters were sent out becuase the High Rocks Springs pool was to be resurfaced, but they have changed the schedule and it will now be open all of March.

This makes sense given noone at SSR said it was closing, nor did the central reservations. They all saw the Beach Club one being closed but not SSR.

So we'll cross our fingers........

Hi
I called to make additional reservations today. As it stood at 9:15am, The SSR pool is still closed from Member Services stand point...
Not sure how long the message from the manager mtmbyck spoke with will take to get to Member Services...whatever channels they have to go through.

Wow...I can't say how thrilled I would be if they have cancelled the March resurfacing of the SSR pool. I hadn't checked this thread since last week as I had given up hope...but saw all of the comments today. I have continued to check various rehab listings on different sites and SSR pool has not shown up on any of them, even though they have been updated in the last couple of days. Here's hoping that the plans have changed!!!!:cool1:

Although it might be a bit of a pain, you should try pool hopping.
Someone mentioned OKW, which is nice. We usually go to the Polynesian pool for a day when we are at WDW. Love that pool.

It is strange that they are not resurfacing pools now when they aren't as busy.

I hope it all works out for you.
