we have narrowed down to SSR or BWV( buying next year, after budget busters are paid off)
we decided on SSR or BWV because of the proximity to things we enjoy.
does anyone have any thing they do not liek about SSR?

thank you

Tina

I have stayed at both and they are very different from each other. I was at SSR 3 weeks ago loved it but it is very big and there are 4-5 bus stops. very close to Downtown Disney. SSR is a very quiet resort and we liked that and the bus rides to the parks were not bad at all. I would buy at SSR due to the fact that you get more for your $ you can get points in the 70 and the are till 2054 vs BWV are around $80 and is only till 2042

The only negative I can think of is that the Carousel section doesn't have a quiet pool.

We recently sold our BWV and VWL points. Now we only own SSR points, as we really like the resort and we wanted the extra years for our kids. SSR is an outstanding value if bought resale.

BWV

• Attached to a deluxe resort hotel (BWI)
• Lively atmosphere: ¼-mile Atlantic city Boardwalk midway
• Well-themed pool (Luna Park) with 200-ft Keister Coaster water slide
• Boardwalk location (lots of activity - street performers, games, nightlife)
• Standard View rooms are low on points!
• Boardwalk view rooms offer great view of Crescent lake
• Ten-minute walk to Epcot; 15-minute walk to DHS
• Boat launch to DHS and Epcot
• Room service and valet parking
• Great restaurants (Flying Fish Café and Spoodles)
• Community Hall with lots of activities for children
• No food court / counter service inside the resort
• Long hallways from lobby to room

SSR

• Apartment-style setup; standalone, not attached to a hotel
• Elegant and sophisticated décor (understated, subdued theme)
• Onsite Spa (rated best at WDW)
• Golf course on property
• Large, very spread out resort (the largest DVC resort)
• Long distance from some rooms to dining and services
• Close to Downtown Disney
• Direct access (walk/boat) to DTD (for restaurants and nightlife)
• Themed pool - rock formations/springs/water slide
• Limited onsite dining (Artists Palette and The Turf Club)
• Has convenient self parking
• No room service
• Outdoor hallways
• Newer than BWV

It is a very personal decision. It's hard to find much about any DVC resort that you don't like however, when you compare to other applicable resorts, sometimes one is lacking in comparison. As noted, those are two very different choices. UNLESS you plan on getting a standard view, BW view or GV routinely at BWV, I think SSR is the much better value to purchase at this time. Longer expiration, cheaper buy in price, likely lower fees long term. You can still use your points to stay at BWV and other DVC resorts part of the time but lock in your time at SSR (or any home resort) 11 months out.

Someone mentioned that SSR guests sometimes have to travel along to several bus stops before reaching their stop, but isn't that the same at BWV? I have never stayed at the Boardwalk, but I visited a friend at the Beach Club once and it seemed like we were on the bus for a while, stopping at other hotels along the way. We were all chatting and I wasn't paying much attention, but that is my memory.

BWV buses do stop at the Swan/Dolphin & Yacht & Beach Club, so multiple stops can happen at either place.

The few things I don't like at SSR are the cement outdoor hallways, not a fan of artist pallete offerings, and it can be a hike to the main pool depending on where you are staying. SSR is my favorite resort but I'm partial since I own there. :goodvibes It just feels like a separate & peaceful resort, we go to DTD often, we love the main pool & DH loves being right by the golf course.

In the same token I find the hallways can be long at BWV, no food court & if you are by the pool you have to head out to the boardwalk to find some take out food. Love the proximity to Epcot & DHS, the boardwalk is fun, a lot of TS restaurant choices, kids love the scary clown pool.

Even though we own at SSR, we have never had a problem staying at other DVC resorts in the summer. When we go during the holidays or F&W, we don't even attempt to stay anywhere else but SSR.

We love SSR but then again we're biased because we own there. I strongly reccomend you at least visit if not stay at both the resorts you are considering before purchasing. Good luck with whatever you decide.:thumbsup2

Stayed there last September and absolutely LOVED the resort ... will certainly be happy to stay there again.

The only thing that I did not like at all were the outside, cement hallways. They seemed VERY industrial/almost institutional and didn't fit the theme of the resort at all. Unlike OKW, there are not many entrances to each building so chances are you are going to be walking a while in them and they are a bit depressing to me -- a bit of paint and possible "painted rugs" on the floors at the doorways would go a long way.

Now, as I stated earlier, this will not keep me from staying there again as there are SOOOOOO many positives about the place. I just hate that the atmosphere that is created all over the resort grounds is disrupted while you enter your building and walk to your room where it is found again as soon as you open your villa door.

Good luck with your decision!

We love SSR but if I had to choose something I dont like about it would be the Carousel area. It feels so removed from the rest of the resort. Im always so afraid that we will be assigned a room in that area.

Love Artist Pallete (so happy to have this option) been to other dvcs that their quick service is only burgers and fries...dont get me wrong I like burgers and fries but ..........

and I also like the outdoor hallways. When were leaving the room and walking the halls you always have a view to look at and fresh air as soon as you step out the door.

***** I just asked my dh what he doesnt like about SSR and after a few minutes of thinking he said he doesnt like where the toilet paper roll is located :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Wow. That's really hard for me, because if I were buying points again, I'd buy there in a heartbeat. So...here it goes:

* I feel the points required for a GV are ridiculously high.
* I don't like the feature pool as well as some of the other DVC resorts, but it's perfectly fine.
* Not saying that I want guaranteed bookings, but requests for certain sections (e.g., Congress Park, the Springs, etc.) are requests only. THV are guaranteed, though.
* The walking doesn't bother me, but if you don't like to walk, it may not be a good choice for you.

We didn't really care for SSR too much. It was nice to walk to DTD, but being able to walk to Epcot and DHS from BWV is so wonderful! And it is beautiful at night walking along the Boardwalk (so lively).

When we stayed at SSR we were so far out it felt like everything was so far away.

I guess I like the resorts where you check in and go to your room under one roof instead of the apartment style types. So that is something you have to consider.

We own at BCV, but we tend to stay at BWV because my kids love the lovely entertainment/crowds/activities at night there.

Westjones makes and excellent point...most people tend to like the "condo" resorts, or they like the "hotel style" resorts. Unfortunately, I'm one of the few who likes both, and want to own points at every resort! Honestly, we don't stay put, so a home resort means very little to us.

At the end of the day, if you plan on staying at one resort most of the time (whether it's the THVs at SSR, or the Boardwalk or standard views at BWV) and can book 8 - 11 months out, definitely buy where you want to stay. :thumbsup2

We've stayed there 5 times, and I have to say that the one thing I didn't like after our most recent stay this past Christmas was all the bugs in the hallways & stairwells since they are outside. It's Florida, there's bugs, I know that, but I could do without them. lol It's not a deal breaker for me though, I love SSR so much!! :)

The only "wish" I can think of for SSR is that I wish Turf Club offered breakfast.

These are 2 very different resorts with 2 very different feels to them. We have stayed at BWV & agree that the location can't be beat, the rest of it just didn't do it for us.

If you aren't buying into DVC for another 16 months, can you take a trip to see/stay at SSR and BWV before then? Buy where you want to stay is the best advice I ever got. We bought our first contract on resale market for BWV rather than at SSR with that advice.

We stayed at SSR in January for the first time, and it worked well for our family that trip. My DM and her DF didn't go to the parks at all, they just played a lot of golf, walked or took the boat to DTD, and ate at various resort restaurants with us. (They would have gone swimming, but it was just too cold the week we were there.) They really, really loved it. We went to the parks every day and didn't have any real problems with the buses, but for years we have stayed at deluxes convenient to at least one park, so we weren't thrilled about having to take the buses everywhere.

We stayed in the Grandstand, which we liked very much. We would have liked Congress Park, too, I think. We would not have been as happy in an area that wouldn't let us walk to DTD easily, as that was one of the best things about the resort for us. We also wouldn't have been as happy if we had been at one of the last bus stops... we couldn't pick people up the buses were so full a couple of times, and we usually went to standing room only by the later stops. (We are not fans of long bus rides while standing...) So, basically, we like SSR enough that we wouldn't be sorry to stay there again, but we doubt we would like it as much if we had gotten a different part of the resort.

The two things I don't love about SSR are.
Very big resort.....and they don't have interior hallways.

My favorite thing about SSR is that the buses at DTD will take you to any resort for dinner.

I enjoyed my stay there at SSR but I prefer the villas that are attached to a hotel.

As much as we love the Turf Club Grill, we really don't care for the Artist's Palette. On paper, the menu looks fine, but we're typically frustrated with the lack of selection that pleases everyone...
