SSR, is there anything you do not like?

Westjones makes and excellent point...most people tend to like the "condo" resorts, or they like the "hotel style" resorts. Unfortunately, I'm one of the few who likes both, and want to own points at every resort! Honestly, we don't stay put, so a home resort means very little to us.

At the end of the day, if you plan on staying at one resort most of the time (whether it's the THVs at SSR, or the Boardwalk or standard views at BWV) and can book 8 - 11 months out, definitely buy where you want to stay. :thumbsup2

I agree completely! We own at SSR and it is our least favorite! BWV is our second least favorite (we like BWV and LOVE the staff there but the 1 elevator with a stroller is too much for now!).

You asked for what we don't like.
1. the attitude of the cast members that you already paid so we really don't care whats wrong
2. The elevator that we got stuck in 3 times in 2 days with 4 kids! (we couldn't walk up with the double stroller and honestly thought after our numerous calls it would be taken care of.
3. The dirty carpets. My DH who almost never complains actually noticed this and said "what exactly do our dues go to pay for?
4. The lights in the master BR that did not go on or get fixed for the first 3 days.
5. The LONG walk to the main pool if you are not in the Springs.
6. That it seemed that they tried to put DVCers anywhere with a bad view...
Quote at checking..."we can give you a view of DTD but then you have to move in 3 days because we have to give it to someone else... I'm sorry but who exactly are you holding that room for????
I thought we all checked in and got whatever was available? I later talked to other DVC members who had the same experience. All I can guess is that they go to paying non DVC members to get them to buy.

We did like that we could walk to DTD and the room was nice enough. Overall the attitude was just sad. My sister was with for her first DVC stay and said she would never buy because once you do they obviously don't care if something is wrong. She went to the Front desk to tell them about our concerns and they basically brushed her off too.
She is actually still complaining about this! LOL

We did switch to OKW after they left. When we got there my DH breathed a sigh of relief and said "Oh yeah this is what we bought into DVC for, maybe we should sell our SSR points and buy here or AKV?"

I told him there was no point. I would just not book us at SSR again unless I HAD to.

I guess SSR was just not for us.

Hopefully I didn't scare you. I think we just had a bum trip. We still love our DVC points, and really it doesn't matter where your home is. I booked BLT and AKV yesterday for Sept. No problems.

***** I just asked my dh what he doesnt like about SSR and after a few minutes of thinking he said he doesnt like where the toilet paper roll is located :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Oh my gosh--too funny 'cause I was sitting here, really having a hard time thinking what I didn't like, until I read your Dh's comment and I think he's right! I remember it being on the wall, opposite the toilet! Really, too funny, but he is right!!

So, that's my only dislike too.

We have stayed at both. BWV has more of a hotel feeling to it because the rooms are in one building whereas, as already said, SSR is quite spread out. We like the hotel atmosphere and the location of BWV. We definitely do not like Artists Palette at SSR - flatbread, flatbread and more flatbread. The selection of food on offer for evening meal is not good, IMHO. And when we were there over 2 years ago the wait for the food was dreadful.

We are staying there for six nights in April but simply because that is where DD, her DH and our GS are staying and we wish to stay near to them.

The reasons you like each one may change as you get older. BWV is nice because of proximity to Epcot and DHS, BUT I discovered in January that parking close to your room at SSR is very nice, and you don't have to walk a long way to your car, or wait for valet service. We started using a car because of my 84 yo parents and my DH's bad back...and then the buses become a non-issue. So as those 50 years dwindle, the importance of various pros/cons may change. It's just something to consider.

We went for the longer contract and put our kids' names as owners...we'll get the full 50 years out of it, unless they sell it when we're dead and gone. :lmao:

We have stayed at SSR twice - both times in Congress Park. It is a long walk from there to the main building and main pool. The quiet pool was fine but if we just wanted to get a frozen drink and hang out at the pool it was not worth the walk. I clocked it at .6 mile which is not bad but can be when you are carrying groceries and/or your bags that have sent back to the resort. There is no waitress/buffet service area for breakfast. Turf club was ok. Spa was great. It was a convenient walk to DTD though but we only go there once or twice a trip. I could not exactly put my finger on why I didn't like SSR but when bell services came for our luggage he hit the nail on the head. The set-up at SSR is more like condos where we love the resort feel. Some love the quietness and overall feel of SSR but we really love BWV and BCV and what they have to offer plus the convenice to EPCOT and DHS. That why the resort are all different - there is something for everyone!

If you aren't buying into DVC for another 16 months, can you take a trip to see/stay at SSR and BWV before then? Buy where you want to stay is the best advice I ever got. We bought our first contract on resale market for BWV rather than at SSR with that advice.

I wish we could, but no.

thank you all for the help. I do have a long time( i keep thinking if the right contract comes along, we will buy sooner and deal with it) I really would like to spend NYE 2011 in WDW as a new owner.
i can keep reading and looking at photos, and eventually the right time will be here.
